talk to the Sabres.

Okposo for Lucic

or

Moulson + prospect( not Mittelestadt. Fasching, or someone like that) for Lucic.

No way EDM does it. It would be admitting that they made a mistake with the Lucic contract. Would be tough for BUF to carry Okposo and Lucic's contract around in the final four years...

My god, I forgot Okposo was still in the league. Surely this is a guy that would perform better if traded. I would bank on Okposo being better than Lucic in three years (assuming Okposo is traded to a good team).

Yeah the length of the contract is an issue... right now however Lucic is doing the job we want him to. Certainly not cap dump material. Maybe talk to us in 3 years or so. We might be crying to get rid of him.

I don't get it. People act like he should only be making like 3-4 million. 6 mil for what he does is fair value.

I really don't get it either. Out of the UFA's signed to that similar contract he has easily been the best, not to mention the most durable, and the youngest.

His cap hit isn't that bad. The only issue I'd have with his contract is the term.
Yea, people still think it<s 2010 and stars should only get paid 7.5 a year. He is paid UFA money, Caphit not too bad but term is a bit long for his style of play. Still has decent value in my opinion. You have to think there is still a lot of old mentality GMs how loves guys like that

He might be (MIGHT BE) overpaid by a million, but I don't think so. UFA's get the top of the pay scale all the time, he's no more "overpaid" than any other guy who signed as a free agent and isn't old as dirt or a depth player. Too many people on HF think that because he might not be worth his contract in 3 or 4 years, his contract today is awful. We've seen enough bad overpaid players traded in the recent past to know that these contracts typically are not unmovable as well.

I try not to 'feed the troll' in replying to threads like these (I liked the Lucic contract when it was signed, and I still like it today). I'm not 100% convinced I will still like his contract in the final year, but by then....so what? If the Oilers have gotten good years out of him as they did last year and so far this year, and I suspect will for at least a couple more, then the contract did what it was intended. He could have gotten more money less term with Montreal, less money more term with LA, but he went with Edmonton and this Oiler fan is glad he did.

I would love to see someone post a poll to determine which is the worst/best contract of those signed July 1st 2016. If you look at Eriksson, Backes, Brouwer, Ladd, Nielson, Okposo and Lucic.....I still consider Lucic the best contract of the bunch. I get that not everyone else thinks his contract is the 'best' of them....but I would be amazed at anyone thinking his contract is the worst of them.

It is time that the Oilers move away from Lucic. He is not the old Lucic they wanted ..... he has slowed down. He still has upside but just Not a good fit with the Oilers.

Would rather use that $6 million salary else where.

So that being said ..... What team would take him?? And what could the Oilers get in return??

So in the last 4 seasons:
Lucic
13-14 80gm 24G 59P
14-15 81gm 18G 44P
15-16 81gm 20g 55P
16-17 82gm 23G 50p
he has averaged 81gm 21G 52P

this year he is 27gm 5g 19P
on pace for 15G 57P were he would average 82gm 19G 53P in the 2 years as an oiler.
Part of repeatability of base performance is games missed.
A # 13/14 forward replaces missed games.

His worst season has been 18G 44P
from 13-14 to 16-17 the wingers to achieve 18G 44P all 4 seasons are.

there were 15 wingers who achieved this:
Ovechkin LW(32yr) 4@ 9.54M
Benn LW (28) 8@ 9.5M
Marleau LW (38) 3@ 6.25M
Lucic LW (29) 6@ 6M
Saad LW (25) 4@ 6M
Pacioretty LW (29) 2@ 4.5M

P. Kane RW 6@ 10.5M
Perry RW (32) 4@ 8.625M
P. Kessel RW (30) 5@ 8M
Eberle RW (27) 2@ 6M
Okposo RW (29) 6@ 6M
Oshie RW (31) 8@ 5.75M
Wheeler RW (31) 2@ 5.6M
Hornquist RW (30) 1@ 4.25M
Simmonds RW (29) 2@ 3.975M

Repeatability of baseline performance is a critical measure for player affect.
Lucic is one of the 6 most consistent offensive LW in the game.
He gets replaced by 13/14 forwards 1-2 gm a year.

So you are tired of a player with an elite level of base repetitive play.

You are saying you are tired of consistent upper level performance and you want inconsistent lower level of performance.

Repeatable baseline performance!
Belichek and I look for that!

Nope. No one will take him. You're stuck with him. Enjoy!! LOL.

hf is broken.

people are all aboard the huge assumption that he will be done at 34 and acting like thats the reality......ignoring that he is currently a top powerforward in the league and would be a core player on any team in the nhl right now.
People are basing his play IN THE NOW and calling him garbage based off the term of his contract. When he does fall off a cliff, we'll worry about him then..at this point..hes been great.

How many people here wrote off Dustin Brown? Look at his production now at 33

Easy pass for me. Lucic is as durable as they come and Eriksson has been dealing with quite a few injuries the past few years. Lucic has also been the better player since they signed their contracts, so I see no reason to make that swap.

I could see the Canucks needing to add to the deal. Trade might not make sense atm but perhaps in a couple years we throw in a prospect on his ELC to make it happen. Hard to predict the future.

I understand why you want to hold onto Lucic. I don't think he's overpaid atm. Probably makes what he deserves. Towards the end of his contract he'll be a bit overpaid but that's usually what happens in free agency

That old, slow, useless cap dump has 10 points, is + 2, and has 40 PIM in 14 games since Nov 1.

Extrapolated over 82 games, that's 59 points, + 12, and 234 PIM - or one of the best power forward seasons in recent memory.

Weirdly timed, OP. Weirdly. Timed.

If one of the main reasons to trade him is fear he can suck as time passes... then trading him during a 10 game hot streak is probably smart

But is this 10 game hot streak enough to convince anyone to gamble on years 4,5,6?

Honestly no one should be surprised if he has a good year this year. Most of us said for 2-3 years he will be a good signing. It was always a question of those last years

Lucic is prob the type of leader edmonton needs. Maybe he will agree to be an enforcer as his speed and skill detererate? Edmontons prob stuck with him but i feel its ok. He helps some

But as far as timing of this proposal... if anyone were to offer to take him... its more likely they would when hes hot
