Jets sitting on 1/4 of the top 20 spots :naughty: CSW have had some super strong games regardless of tonight's stinker. They were tired from be overplayed and will be fine. Exciting to have a middle six that can have a serious impact.

Matchups.
Obviously they are the partial explanation. However, only partial. Also the sample size is low and +/- is dubious anyway with PP/PK effect and only 5-on-5 goal differential should be used.

Anyway, you don't usually win your games that much when your 1st line is worse than their matchup. Obviously you can still win if your 2nd line is on fire, as has been the case.

That was a much better finish by the Jets, which shouldn't surprise anyone.

Goes without saying that it was mostly a 2 line effort tonight in victory. Copp-Stastny-Ehlers were outstanding. I don't know how you can break them up right now, these guys are doing everything. I know Ehlers gets most of the credit, but boy do Stats and Copper play smart, hard nosed hockey.

And for anyone suggesting that Adam Lowry be demoted to a 4th line centre, I hope they realize that he scored the GWG tonight by physically dominating the best hockey player on the planet, by driving the net. That's 7 points in 7 games, and a tie for 2nd in team goal scoring. He's playing some inspired hockey this year.

Going to be a tough decision for Maurice how to manage the forwards when Dubois enters the lineup. One good thing that I think may come from it, is a promotion to the top PP unit, with Stastny, Ehlers, Copp all on the 2nd unit, renewing some of their inherent chemistry, so a 2 pronged attack.

On the critical side, I think everyone saw this it wasn't the top lines best game. I'll give Wheeler some credit that he recognized it, and shortened his shift lengths.

Defensively, I think every d-man had a lapse that led to a scoring chance or goal, so everyone was fair game. But there were some positive plays from every d-man too, so I think it balanced out, in a mediocre way. From my optic, Beaulieu probably stopped the most attacking plays defensively, which is a positive.

The PK on the other hand... Yesterday I was touting Forbort-De Melo as potentially the best unit, going off analytics, yet they weren't very good, in their results. So back to the drawing board. This is an area where improvement is surely needed. I still don't get the troubles we have, in the way we break down to give up quality chances. I hope that some adjustments are made, because once again the PK had us trailing a game, which luckily talent and hard work won tonight.

Nik Ehlers needs to be on the 1st PP unit. His speed and puck movement is by far the best on the team. It is interesting how Laine is now gone and the Jets still have a dilemna in that PLD is coming and the Jets have to explain to Copp why he shouldn't be on the 2nd line. I think he is a selfless person so it won't be an issue.

One of the reasons they got Dubois was to be deep at center.

Stas can anchor a third line, and that is best for the team.

He should NOT be moved to wing just to stay in the top 6, a waste of his talents as a center.

Love seeing so many Jets bear the top, but I disagree with your comments about CSW. That line has been a defensive liability for two years now, and they continue to rock a negative xGoals differential.

They are overplayed. Ehlers should lead this team in ice time every night. He continues to be there best player.

So I guess Stats was worth that 4th Rd pick and 8th Dman?
Actually the trade helped Vegas more ... Stastny was a salary dump so they could sign Pietrangelo just like the previous year Vegas dumping Eakins on the Jets so they could trade for Lehner. If Vegas wins the Stanley Cup Chevy's name should go it .
Imagine having Pietrangelo and PLD instead of Stastny and PLD.

Once again the Plain Jane GDT is a winner. Helly owes the boys this one but they still owe Helly about 35 from last season. Don't like how people are giving to Scheifele but we have a shiny new toy in the garage so it's easy. Anyway great game by Ehlers, Copp, Stastny and Lowry . Guess having dad on the bench is working. :naughty: Oh ya.

Ehlers is the most wasted asset in NHL history. It's insane that this puppet coach don't play his best winger most.

Maybe Maurice have anti-european bias or smth. Kyle Connor is a joke when you compare his D-zone play to Ehlers, but Mad Hatter Maurice praises him to sky.

After Dubois is playing Ehlers might see another demotion to 4th line. Do you guys remember that insanity?

Didn’t get a chance to watch the game due to late freakin meeting but I have it PVR’d back in the Peg.

When PLD arrives it will be nice to have a top 7 to fill the top 6 slots. Injuries always happen so the depth is great. As an original and ongoing Copp fanatic I am thrilled to see him producing and fitting in the top 6.

Weird to have a line that can actually defend in our top 6 too. Must be so enjoyable for the much maligned and embattled D core.

The only thing I would like to see is more load managment with our top line. Less minutes = greater production and healthier players.

Pretty thrilled with the 5-2 start so hats off to managment, coaching staff, and players for getting out of the blocks fast in a short season.

Somewhere nice
Copp must have been happy to see Laine traded. Dude has RUN with the 2nd line opportunity.

He has mentioned few times before that he wanted top 6 opportunity. Or more roll in an offensive side of the game.

This is his change,
Him and Lowry are playing for a bigger contract. Stastny for a nrw 2 year contract wherever it may be.

Chef with 26:12 ( 05:30 pp ) , his line is obviously struggling, they looked bagged, so Mo puts him out there to defend against McDavid with a couple of minutes left.. McDavid undressed Chef so bad if you go down to the arena right now, Chef's jock strap is still on the ice.

Worst part is...after that he put him right back out in the last minute. Why does he ride these guys in the end when they suck in our zone. Stastny didn’t see one shift under 3 to go.
Ehlers only getting 16 min and Scheif 26 min (he takes long shifts, coach wants young guys to emulate leaders, hope he don’t mean minute thirty shifts) is unbelievable. Pmo always calls out young guys in media or scratches players for poor dzone, yet no one in media has the guts to mention how bad that line is and he trots them out. I’ve been saying this for three years, no accountability for them and that’s where young guys look at it and get ticked.

That was a great game, Lowry and Copp are beasts. Stastny is stellar, Ehlers fun to watch. Nice to see Perreault chip in too. Just need Helly to wake up. Great hockey, great win!

That’s just it. We need someone to ask this exact question.

Man dubois can't get here soon enough. So tired of watching Pomo skate Schief and wheels in to exhaustion by the 3rd give the 2nd and 3rd lines more ice time for gods sake. 2nd and 3rd lines could do with more minutes and schief and wheels will be actually effective come 3rd period.
If PoMo does this, I will give away all my Scotch weep tears of joy, and make burnt offerings of the brownie variety, but if it happens they can suck me dry and call me dusty...

I was curious, so I researched a few old scouting reports posted way back in 2014...

“Ehlers is an explosive player who can beat even the quickest defensemen wide with his speed. He plays on his off wing and creates chances with sharp cuts to the middle comple- mented by an explosive wrister. He’s equally good with the puck and can handle it both at top speed and in traffic.” - Aaron Vickers

“A Danish blazer who has high end acceleration and a set of gears. One of the best skaters in this draft. Fearless in traffic. Possesses an excellent wrist shot. Can makes plays while moving at his top gear. A bit undersized, but developing in all phases.” - Bill Placzek

"Probably my favorite player in the draft, Ehlers isn’t big at all, but he’s fast…REALLY fast. He’s a nimble skater that rarely loses momentum even in tight turns. He’s a dynamic offensive winger with a powerful repertoire skills he uses to fool defenders. When Ehlers kicks it into that extra gear, there is no stopping him or trying to chase him down. Terrifically smart in tight areas, Ehlers dangles through defenders like Swiss cheese. He drives the net well and drags defensemen out of position when he goes wide into the zone." - Shawn from THW

I guess that nails it.

What should a coach do with a proven #1 C coming in who is better statistically than the current #1?

1. Make changes to try to fix a line that has an xGf% in the low 40s and has been a defensive zone liability for 2 seasons. Happens to be called your #1 line

2. Make changes to recently formed line that is on fire, is your best line with an xGf% over 60, is solid in your own end and completely dominates its matchups

The dynamic of our 2nd line is absolutely perfect. Youve got Ehlers with the speed and finish, the defensively responsible Stastny with the veteran smarts and playmaking ability, and the toughness of Copp whos goes to the net and doesnt mind getting dirty. They each bring a little bit of something different. Its like having a stacked line in NES Ice Hockey of 1 fat, 1 medium, and 1 skinny guy.
