I'm just shocked they're on a tear while McDavid is sorta underproducing (6p last 6gp, 14p in 13gp if you ignore his 5pt vs Flyers).

Of course nothing shabby, and inb4 ''underproducing if you ignore a game lolol'', but that's still definitely below his usual production.
Maybe he's still a bit injured, who knows. If not, it's definitely a big cold streak for him.

Seattle just won 9 in a row and now have lost their last 3 in a row.
Florida just won 9 in a row and now have lost their last 4 in a row.. including a loss against Anaheim

I'm kind of scared when the Oilers finally lose their next game...

Yea, the whole team is actually chipping in.
The ones who are stuck in the past still think that the Oilers are being carried by their PP (actually terrible in the last while) or McDrai (also both underperforming compared to their normal selves)

It's actually nice for those that are paying attention.
I don't think so tbh. It could be right for McDavid, who gets the top linemates (RNH and Hyman), but not for Drai who plays with Connor Brown and now Foegele and McLeod for the whole season. Must be the worst linemates any elite player in the league has.

McDavid playing trough injury at the beginning was a really crackbrained decision.

Ekholm makes the team better for sure compared to the last years.

FTR.. not a Smith fan at all but here is his career and last 20 playoff games for the Oilers..

View attachment 806270

A .924 career playoff average and .913ish over 20 playoff games for the Oil's is far from a laughingstock, no? Admittedly, some horrendous goals against in the playoffs.lol
All people remember about Smith as an Oiler is the one goal he gave up against the Flames in the playoffs. In reality he was a very good goalie for the Oilers, getting some Vezina consideration in 2021 and being solid in the 2021 and 2022 playoffs.

Outside of this year.....what did Demko due to warrant this "elite" status he is upholding? And when was it bestowed upon him?

Don't get me wrong....he is darn good. But outside of this year who called him "elite"?
Demko covered up alot of warts that the 2021 and 2022 Canucks had. They won many more games than they should have those years due to him.

Demko is a very elite goalie. I live in Van and knew it the first time I saw him play. He is going to be good for a while too.

Put some respect on McLovin and McLeods names

McLeod and Foegele (as well as Hyman this season) all seem to have improved their abilities with the puck, especially in tight. If I were them I would've just done stick handling and shooting drills all summer and tbh that's what it looks like they all did.

Their confidence surely improved which shows how they handle the puck and the play. But how sustainable will it be when they are separated from Drai?

Oilers allowing something like 1.65 GA/60 during the streak. Skinner is almost 2nd in save % in the last 2 months. PK says the D are too easy to play against lollll
The Oilers are very impressive. It's nice to see all 3 western Canadian teams in top half of the standings. Oilers could very well have home ice advantage in playoffs.

You just have to love Hyman, that empty net goal is a great example of how hard he works.
Hyman is such a bargain contract. Oilers have couple of steals in terms of contracts like Drai and Hyman. It kind of off sets Nurse contract being paid so high.

McLeod has played C on his own line since returning from illness. Drai is out there with Kane 5v5.

But yeah, both Foegele and McLeod are playing with tons of confidence. Nobody expects that to last indefinitely.

This streak has to end and some regression is due for sure! BUT I'm enjoying the hell out of it for now. Knights have won 3 in a row and seem to have righted the ship. Still, 4 games in hand and 6 points definitely gives us a punchers chance. Nuck's seem fairly cemented on top for now. 8 wins in last 10 and a big points lead. I still think the Knights are the cream of the crop in this bracket.

2 takeaways from the recap

1. This is a Vladar highlight reel.. he was outstanding.
2. I've been noting that Hyman is not a passenger but, to my eye, is driving play and a machine out there. Go to the end and watch that empty net goal as evidence.lol He is a real pain in the ass!

The Oilers had a shootout win Dec 30th against the Kings which in 1967-68 when the record was set would have been a tie for the Canadians. Almost seems wrong to consider this streak as anything more than the longest in the Cap/Shootout Era.
Do you happen to know what the result of the next game is?
