Probably good time to remember the Leafs have played basically every other night since the season began. Not a lot of time to practice but they’ve gotten off to a good start.

What’s evident is as the games have gone on, and teams have adjusted, that the Leafs have started to crumble more defensively.

This four day break should not only help their legs but also get some practice time in to tighten their game up.

He's only playing because Keefe has to give him a chance. Dermott is well ahead right now and Lethonen is running out of time.

What am I missing? I think Lehtonen looks good. Almost feels like Babs and Spezza from training camp last year. Can’t do anything right. Imagine if Lehtonen made the same mistakes as some of the veteran D getting walked around today. Outside the penalty where he tied his guy up in front of the net, I didn’t see many mistakes at all.

That save by Andersen was dirty. Earned a point on that one save. That would have left a really sour taste in my mouth.

McDavid stepped up and got Edmonton a much needed win.

Barabanov needs some tuning with the Marlies. I don't think we need to see him again for awhile. Good effort from Lehtonen tonight, he should stay up as the #7 for now.

Nylander made the crucial error of missing the net and having the puck wrap around the boards creating an odd man rush. There's an art to doing things in OT and Nylander still seems to be learning.

He didn’t miss the net he went far side for a rebound but Koskinen played it nicely to the corner instead of kicking it out, intentionally or not

Not our best game, happy we got the one point. McDavid really can put that team on his back - it's truly amazing.

Keefe putting out JT to start the 3 on 3 was a terrible, inexcusable, decision.
That’s not a bad decision at all. He’s our best face off guy and he’s one of the most skilled players in the league.

Nylander has to take that puck on the backhand in OT. Horrible angle, there was nothing tho shoot at. At least taking it to the net wouldn’t have resulted in the puck rimming around to McJesus. I am a nylander fan, but man that guy is dumb as rocks sometimes.

In all honesty though, you can’t be upset with the result of tonight’s game. Good on them for getting back into the game, definitely didn’t deserve a pt and they ended up gutting one out. 7/8 on the roady. Lots to clean up. Lots to grow on. But can’t argue with 7-2-1.

my stars of the roady were simmer, Matts and holl

get some well deserved rest, and get ready to rip hearts out on Thursday

Again he was shooting far pad for a rebound, Tavares was coming down the middle. Koskinen played it great and put it to the corner whether he was trying to or was just late putting the pad out. Not against nylander taking that shot, he’s shown on multiple occasions he can finish coming down the wing. If he walks in and Koskinen makes a save he probably gets caught behind the red line anyways and the oilers have an odd man rush the other way regardless.

I'm worried that our record (which is good) doesn't reflect the quality of our play (which is bad). If it keeps up, we'll see things come crashing down as it always does eventually.
couldn't agree more. Of course, it won't really matter if the Leafs simply play better from here on out, but that's probably too optimistic

At the end of the day though, I’ve been somewhat negative about tonight 7-2-1 is better than I thought we’d start the season off, figured we’d be around 10-12 points, this game was a loss that we had no business getting a point in so what can you do, not going to be playing 100% all year take the point and move on to Thursday and get some rest

You can't win them all. I imagine these repeat games against the same team will have many swings like this. The Matthews goal gave them some life and Hyman extended it; but, they were pretty flat. Fred is often losing the top of his net and has a very bad five hole. Something has to give.
