I know that some people don't like Vesey. Can anyone, who understands advanced stats, make a case for or against him?

I think Keefe had a different plan for OT than what was executed. JT wins the faceoff, leafs hold possession until McDavid and Draisaitl get off the ice. They were unfortunately fortunate that Nylander had the partial break, but he should’ve been aware who he was on the ice against. Low far side miss/rebound always has the puck going the other way and none of them on the ice we’re keeping up with McDavid.

While that game had some not great moments, I think if I said we'd get 7/8 points on this road trip, after starting 4-2 on the year, we'd all be pretty happy.

We are tied for the division lead based on P% after 10 games. In the past, it feels like we'd be at the top of the division to start, but Boston and Tampa were still ahead on P% because they would only have played like 6 games for whatever reason lol.

I dunno, it's easy to get all uppity over individual things and mistakes, but I am so freakin encouraged by this start. The defensive breakdowns (while still there) seem to be happening less. Zach Bogosian, hasn't made any insane blunders like guys like Polak, Ceci, etc have done before him, so that's nice. TJ Brodie, listen, that pairing is still getting it's chemistry, but holy man, the dude is a million percent better than anything we've ever had beside Rielly. Dude just knows how to defend. Muzzin and Holl, for the most part, look like their ultimate selves. Justin Holl has legitimately looked like the drive of the pairing, and not the passenger like last year, and that's not a knock on Muzzin, more than just how good Holl looked this year, outside of the first game or two.

The depth we have for the fourth line, is doing good things.

Really the Tavares line ES has been this teams biggest weakness so far.

Can’t complain. Battled back from a 3-1 deficit at the end of a road trip, got the point, saw some pretty incredible plays. Got a point. I was entertained.

I don't think they'll ever be the best team in the league, but they have long stretches where they look like the best version of themselves.

Based on how they're playing, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4-5 game losing streak coming up.

Ya that’s fair, I 100% understand your side. While I don’t completely disagree with him shooting it there a POP in 3 on 3 has a lot less defensive coverage than 5 on 5, if JT misses it it’s an odd man rush anyways and the coverage was pretty good on him with 2 guys in the middle. I think i misread your original post a bit and thought you were saying he completely missed the net and was more making the point of what he was trying to do and that he didn’t miss the net and rim it. It was a nice play by Koskinen to direct that to the corner based on the situation. Regardless though you definitely raise a good point on POP vs driving in that situation.
Ya I mean, it was more or less a situation where Nylander and JT being on the ice with McDrai just needed to try and minimize their chances. A back and forth style of 3 on 3 against those guys will hardly work in your favour. Obviously nylander was just taking what was given to him, and had a clear opportunity at net, so he tried to end it. But the way that OT played out, with those 2 superstars on the ice, if you take a swing you can’t miss. Overall you really can’t be mad at that outcome either way. Had you told me we’d get a single point pregame I would have been happy.

Would've started Matthews and Marner with Brodie. What defenseman would know McDavid and Draisaitl better than Brodie? Shut them down the first shift and then bring out Tavares, Nylander and Rielly to end it.

You mean this TJ Brodie? Would love to win every game, but McDavid's speed is ridiculous...and 3-on-3 shinny hockey is pretty much money for him with all that open ice. 7/8 points in Alberta is great.

We lost, but it was both a pretty close game and an entertaining one. It seemed like a back & forth battle and contest between McDavid & Matthews showing us their stuff. Edmonton played a lot better than they did in their previous games against us.

I'm not too worried. Overall (standings wise), we are doing pretty good. You can't win them all.

Big save by Freddie to take it to OT, but god was he awful today. He kept sliding out of the crease, he'd make the first save and then keep gliding leaving half the net open. That McDavid goal was pretty but wtf was Freddy doing, he left half the god damn net wide open. Did it countless other times last night too

Sleeping on it I'm less ticked at this loss. Should probably avoid posting after losses until I've had a good 8 hours to sleep on it. 7/8 points really is a good accomplishment for the road swing in Alberta. Would be hard pressed to ask for a better start than 7-2-1 in the first 10 games. Hope the Leafs come back with much better 5 on 5 play though come Thursday.

Why was this game on Sportnet & not CBC in Ontario ?

No lets show 2 out of market teams instead, which was also on City TV as well.

I'm guessing that it comes down to Sportsnet paying more for the regional game rights. All of these little regional fifedoms over multiple networks are the result of the NHL cutting up and parcelling out the rights for maxiumum dollars...inconvenience for viewers be damned.
