You’re better than this.
What This Means for You:
Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Why are you letting a hockey forum get you worked up?
Pickard has had a significantly better SV% than Skinner in both years he has been here, and it's not close either. In the playoffs it is even more exaggerated. I'll put some numbers up quick.Another f***ing garbage game from stewed Skinner.
On 17 shots 3GA, 2 posts, A ridiculously bad come out of net situation where he's beat clean and fortunately Jets don't score, and he lets an alley oop from Center ice get by him. It beat him. If thats on target its going in
Pickard comes in and gets the loss because our #1 is a clown.

2023/2024 regular season
Pickard: .909
Skinner: .904
2023/2024 playoffs
Pickard .915
Skinner .901
2024/25 regular season
Pickard .902
Skinner .896
These numbers aren't close. Hedging our bets on Skinner being the future of goaltending here in Edmonton is absurd considering his lack of athleticism and failure to rise to the situation. He has been outplayed not only by Pickard who was a fringe NHL backup, but we can go further. He was outplayed thoroughly by Jack Campbell of all people in the playoffs.
2022/2023 playoffs
Campbell: .961 (4gp)
Skinner: .883 (12gp)
The only time he has outplayed a goaltender in the NHL was him beating out a severely mentally ill Jack Campbell who had no business being in the NHL to begin with, and was subsequently put into the assistance program never to be seen again due to mental health issues.
Pickard should be playing with more regularity. The leash has ended on Skinner. I can't fathom why after this breadth of data and time do we plan on playing Skinner as a starter in the NHL. Pickard has proven himself to be significantly more reliable even if he isn't the flashy, home-grown prospect. He is significantly better and every metric backs this up.

Not sure you saw that graphic during the game but the Kings are like 25-0-2 when scoring three or more goals, and our team defense is a sieve and we got a flopping shaky goalie. We got a lot more to worry about than just home ice advantage.Happy with 1 point considering the circumstances, but I'm a bit concerned about losing hope ice advantage the entire playoffs. What can you do I guess. Hopefully the injuries are minor.
Think it really comes down to the skating. Although when I saw Arvidsson i was wondering why and then I started to think who the hell else was a legit option lol. Podkolzin? Although sometimes I have as much confidence in him offensively as I would a guy like Patrick Stefan on a breakaway with and open netCan anyone help me understand how Arvidsson played in 3 on 3 ot but the guy who was putting the puck in the net (JSkinner)was stapled to the bench?
I realize one is a better skater but jeebus the other guy has zero chance of scoring.
I really liked their response. It's good to see that the team actually gets that they need to give effort every shift.Oilers played well after McDavid went down.
Woah woah woah, let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water here, he has a point.
The last 5 years this place has become IMMENSELY toxic and especially so in the last year. Look at the the thread page numbers. PGTs from losses are typically have 3 or 4 times the amount of posts than PGTs from wins. And there’s a massive amount of users (again most have accounts that were created < 5 years ago) who ONLY appear when we lose. You think that’s a healthy community?
And that’s not even the most unacceptable part. How many times have you seen people post on PGTs or GDTs where they say something along the lines of “I hope the Oilers lose because of X”? I’ve seen probably 3 or 4 in the last week alone. If I was a moderator here that would be an automatic ban from HFOil. We are Oilers fans. If you aren’t cheering for the team you can f*** all the way off. Criticsm is fine. But to say you want the team to lose because they chose to start the goalie you don’t like is not acceptable.
I remember how miserable it was when we missed the playoffs in 2018 and 2019. We dreamt of a time where we are at the top of the league and a contender to win the cup. Now we’re there and somehow this place is factors of 10 more miserable than it was when we sucked. Like we literally have active firing personnel threads when we are fighting for first in the division. Do you know how disconnected from reality you have to be to think that’s even a reasonable point of view?
But I guess HFOil is a good representation of how society has deteriorated since the pandemic. Nobody is interested in positivity or success. They only seek to tear things down. To bring others down to their level because they’re miserable. And yes I can absolutely leave if I “get too worked up” but there’s good people here too with good insights and great conversation. How is it fair that I should leave this community over this infestation of f***ing idiots?
Anyways, rant over.
One other bright spot from a rough third period was Nuge doing pretty well as a #1 center. It’s past time we stop this crutch of using him at LW.
It's only going to get worse. Year over year attention spans are shrinking and people are actually watching less and less of full games and more clips100% agree.
There are some really toxic, out-of-touch, or just plain depressing personalities on here... far worse nowadays then a decade ago when we were having "optimist vs realist" debates... at least during the Decade of Darkness people had a real excuse to be constantly critical.
At least old timers like... you know who you are.... have grown embittered by decades of Oilfan-abuse. I'll give them a pass.
The younger posters who grew up DURING the McDavid years and don't remember having Josef Beranek as their 1st line center really need to climb their way back UP to present reality.
Real Talk: we clawed our way back to even and earned a point in a very tightly checked game against the #1 team in the league and did it without two of the best players to play this sport in 30 years, who we get to witness nightly. And all THREE goalies were reasonably human. That's hockey.
Playing center automatically forces him to be more engaged where as with McDavid he kind of is floating on the wing just waiting for something to happenYeah... even when he's not scoring, he's far better as a center IMO. Let Henrique patrol the 4th line with a combo of Janmark, Brown, Perry, Podkolzin. I'd run three 5v5 lines that can outscore and a 4th that can saw off competition:
Skinner McD Hyman
Kane Drai Perry/Podkolzin/Savoie
Arvidsson RNH Frederic
Janmark Henrique Brown (or one of above RW)
