So a few days ago he says we’re going after centers and now that Waddell is officially hired he’s saying we’re going to be quiet and slow play the rebuild.

Id bet that discussion has already begun and he is already leaning in a direction. Its all speculation. Even if Waddell comes out says slow process doesn't mean anything until something is done to prove or disprove any statement. Waddell is still on the outside, I think by the draft he will know what he wants to do. His 1st business should be devising on Vincent. That is the 1st domino.
Elvis listed at 16
"He should trade for a center" followed by advocating for trading for a winger. Laine is more of an established center than Necas is.
I'm afraid Elvis won't probably be traded. So either a miracle happens and he starts playing normally (and I don't blame him for his less than ideal play after his injuries) or we have a 5+ million dollar bust on our hands. If we were somehow able to pull off an Elvis out - Saros in scenario, that would already be a heck of an off season.

It does seem like he is staying, but it also seems like its his last chance. Especially if there is the expectation to not compete again next season, give Jet another season in the AHL, roll with Elvis/Tarasov in the NHL and go from there next offseason.Waddell seems to be high on Elvis so I'm not hopeful
Not rushing prospects?Anyone here Waddells interview yesterday with Rothman on 97.1 the fan ? Figured this would be the best place to post , and it shines light on why last week before Waddell , it was Columbus won’t do much with free agency , to Friedman a couple days later saying Columbus will go after a center ….
Waddell went on to say , there are a select few players that belong in the NHL right away , referenced a player like Fantilli, Bedard …. But in every other case these players are better off going to the AHL or minors , and clearly going forward , this will be a big change he implements right away .. he said he would rather players play 20 minutes a night and develop, rather than trying to hang on at the NHL level. Jarmo rushed prospects, it appears Waddell will not . I would expect some moves to aquire some more veteran players .
Necas seems like the best fit on the market. What do y'all think about trading for Necas? I was reading on the mains that he wants to play C. I don't have a clue if he could but if seems to be an established winger. He also wants to get paid so that could be a consideration also. Maybe Waddell has enough insight to know if he would be a good fit. About a .8 ppg guy last 2 years.
KJ/Chinakov +for him?
About six months ago I suggested him as a trade option and was told his play has really fallen off a cliff and got the impression that his issues are likely unfixable. My understanding was that he could be a possible solution to get rid of some of our bad contracts but definitely not an actual center upgrade. I guess most people would still rather keep the contracts of Laine and Elvis than exchange them for Pageau. One guy I have seen on potential trade lists who is interesting is Pageau. $5 million cap hit for two more seasons and is owed less in salary. He has had some deep playoff runs. If you want a short term center solution who is a quality veteran who won’t cost much, Pageau might be the answer. Plus he is a right shooting center which we could use.
Go ahead and tell me he sucks and you would rather sign Lindholm for 7 years for way more money.
Pretty much a guarantee they kick the tires on Necas.. this is where Waddell being the connecting personality and relational pays off.. Necas probably wouldn’t hesitate to sign long term here . Many in the league feel he can play center , at minimum you have someone with the motor capable of making Gaudreau better . If you are keeping Gaudreau , you have to get players that can allow him to play his game and produce at the level of his contract . A line of Gaudreau Necas Chinakov, or Gaudreau Fantilli Necas would be cooking .Necas seems like the best fit on the market.
Don't really know what Canes want back though. I'd be down for Chinakov + Sillinger/Boqvist, depending on whether Canes are looking to replace DeAngelo or Kotkaniemi.
If they want a prospect then I'd offer a pick from Dumais/Svozil/Ceulemans. Trading Dumais would pain me since I've campaining for him every year in the prospect polls, but Necas is worth it.
Depends a lot on what Guentzel does. If he doesnt want to re-sign in Carolina then there may be something to that.If Laine wants to go to Carolina and get a fresh start I think a deal centered around him for Necas could be good. Only issue with that for me is that I believe Laine would absolutely flourish over there and Carolina would get even better as a result.
Reinhart’s teammates, especially linemate Aleksander Barkov, don’t want to envision the No. 2 pick (by the Buffalo Sabres) in the 2014 draft wearing another team’s sweater next season, either.
“I don’t know how it was in Buffalo, but ever since he came here, he’s been one of those perfect players that can do it all,” Barkov said. “He plays any situation on the ice. He takes big faceoffs. Power play. PK. Five-on-five. He can do it all at an elite level. It’s fun to play with that guy.”
So, that market value serves as a ceiling of sorts for what Reinhart’s next contract might look like.
Evolving-Hockey’s projections, which provide different salaries at different terms, come in below that ceiling. A seven-year contract signed with a new team, according to its model, projects to come in around a $10.9 million average annual value. Eight years projects to $11.1 million AAV.
Reinhart is a winger. His breakout came on the wing. His massive career year came on the wing. He hasn't played center in a long time.If we're gonna target a center, let's a get a proven one, not someone who wants to play center. We just got done trying that last season. Let's go after someone more proven. Now I doubt he makes it to FA, but if he does id rather go after him than Lindholm. And that's Reinhart.
Shows you how much I watch the Panthers, Max was good for the playoffs in general, except for the fact that I only get to see one series in both the NBA/NHL.. but I mean Barkov is the one saying he takes big face-offs. Put him out there with Fantilli and then let Fantilli take the center responsibility after the faceoff.Reinhart is a winger. His breakout came on the wing. His massive career year came on the wing.
