we're not getting barrie, cannot afford to re-sign him

Yep. Apparently Colorado doesn't want to pony up, which is why he's on the block. I can't see how his new contract of ~$5-6 million will fit on the Kings.

Better off looking for a younger defenseman on a team with a surplus (like the McNabb situation) or an older puck mover (say a Hamhuis).

I would feel confident in Budaj next year. he has enough NHL experience and is lighting up the AHL

Confident might not be a word to use when talking about a soon to be 34 year old who has played 1 NHL game in 2 years. He might be the option, because he's very cheap, but LaBarbera was a very good AHL goalie too.

Probably not usual to have to try to fill in 2 goalie spots, ranging anywhere from backup in the NHL, to backup in the AHL, in one summer, with no clear options in either case. There's no young goalie coming up from junior. Free agents are a toss up. Can't spend too much money.

I'd give that money to Barrie over Lucic in a heartbeat.

maybe confident was too strong. should have said I will be fine with Budaji to play 12-15 games and not jeopardize the kings chances at a post season.

I bring up LaBarbera's AHL success often

Im not really too fond of Barrie at that price, I know a lot of people are since hes really the best UFA this year but a 6x6 is crazy for what he brings. I wouldnt do it but Im also very on the fence about Dean re-signing Looch without addressing the defense first

Or just go the other route and hope that Kempe isn't taken in the expansion draft.

Would be hard to fathom Kempe not being taken if her were available. I am waiting to see exactly the options and who would need protection but hopefully DL can steer Vegas to taking Gaborik

not that it matters but he is an RFA

Why is everyone talking about Kempe being exposed in the expansion draft? Isn't the rules 2 years of NHL experience? Last I looked, Kempe has 0 NHL experience.

Is he really that highly regarded around the league though? Seems like the Kings aren't even sure about him. If Gravel gets playing time in the NHL this season, I could see him as an intriguing option.

Winnipeg has a **** ton of cap space...

Brown and Martinez for Myers.

Sign Yandle and Demers

Muzzin-Doughty
Yandle-Myers
McNabb/Greene-Demers

I was thinking Brown for Orpik could work. If they think he's done over on the Caps. Paid about the same. Orpik only has 3 years left at 5.5M. Those 3 years are when they're trying to win it all. Brown is overpaid, but still an effective hockey player. Kings can ride Orpik's contract out and it would be much easier to buyout if needed. Then the Kings could run Scuderi/Orpik/McNabb down the left side. :naughty:

THE HORROR!!!!

hahah Winnipeg rejects that so frigging fast.

I don't think the jets will have that much cap space once their RFA's are re-signed. Carolina is a team that needs to spend to get to the floor next year.

Nobody has to take Brown to reach the floor. You can pay some free agent $6m for 1 year if need be. They'll have to make it worth it to the other team to take Brown, which is why the Kings won't break even. Brown and Martinez for Myers? What does Winnipeg get out of that deal?

I hope I didn't come off as suggesting Brown would be desirable to Carolina

definitely a long way down the depth chart, but does anyone think Roach will be re-signed to a 2 way deal? With Gravel and Forbort projected to be with the big club next year he could be in the AHL.

I always liked him as a Clagary Hitmen but the fact he spent all of this last year in the ECHL likely means he will never pan out
