You want a kid that scored 11 goals in his 1st AHL season playing on the top line in LA next year?
Wow.
Kempe that was 55 games - 11 goals and 17 assists. He was playing through some injury too. He had 8 playoff goals last year and 4 this year. So he now has 81 games in the AHL (playoffs included) and
has 23 goals, 19 assists for 42 points. That's pretty good for a 19 year
old. Tanner Pearson had 19 goals in his first 64 games in the AHL, but he was 21 years old.
It's not just about numbers - Kempe may be the fastest player on the team now and has the size and skill to play and produce in the top 6
now. He plays better in tournaments and playoffs. His game rises when it's intense. Playing for the Kings may be the same for him - to
rise to the occasion and play beyond expectations, thrust onto a top 6 role. If he doesn't? No big deal. Send him back to Ontario. Just like they did with Toffoli, Pearson, Mersch. It will give him impetus to work hard and get back. But I think there's a good chance he could flourish and produce. Speed kills and the Kings lack there.
Everyone assumes it takes 2-3 years of development and it does not.
Doughty did great as an 18 year old, but made lots of errors and maybe he should have played another year of juniors. But he had the ability to do it.
Then there's Ladue. People here are saying he will need 2 years in the AHL and needs to put on 20 lbs of muscle. Kinda absurd.
Kings development said they would not trade Ladue for Mike Reilly, who signed with the Wild and he played 29 games with them this past
season. Not saying Ladue will play for the Kings this year, but may be here by next season.
