Honestly I am pumped abotu this offseason. Last year was so negative I am glad that DL can just focus on the draft (even though we have very little picks) and focus on Reign right now.
If this team comes back without VL, without Schenn and Lewis I will be ok with giving the kids a shot and then hoping that Gaborik gets taking in the expansion.

reading on the AHL success of the Reign/Monarchs I really think the team will be ok to plug holes with youth. If a deal comes along that knocks DL's socks off or makes sense then I am game

Basically TeamX would be paying to move up in the draft. I doubt a 2nd is enough, maybe a prospect or something too. But just the basis of deal would be awesome
I think it's possible, but so is Stamkos deciding to sign in LA for league min.
Just very very unlikely, which is why I focus on seeing what teams could want Gaborik.

Clarkson was moved for a contract that wasn't insured(I think that's the case anyway), and the Jackets wanted to get something, anything, for their money. As far as I know, Horton counts against the Leafs cap, which only helps them after the season starts when they can LTIR him.
Phaneuf is at least a defenseman. Ottawa needed a defenseman. He was traded for worse players, a couple wingers, that combined make basically as much as he does into next season.
Brown is a $6m winger that has barely scored 10 goals the last few years. He might be moveable, but it won't be easy, and the Kings will be lucky to break even. He's going to cost the Kings something. An equally bad contract, a high pick, a top prospect, having to retain half his cap space while taking some back, something.
I'm with you. We all also don't want this ride to end yet, but Brown's contract is a decent size roadblock. That's the thing. There's a difference between the contract and the person. Nobody wants to see the captain of a 2 time Cup winning team go. We want to see the $6m contract go when cap space is limited.
If/When Brown is traded, I'm sure we'll make a thread for him, and it'll be a long one. We'll fill it with youtube videos and pictures. He's been involved with more great Kings memories than most people that have played for the franchise.
Sentiment is also one reason I want to get rid of Gaborik over Brown.

If I'm the other team, I wouldn't do that deal unless a mid-level 1st round pick is involved. Our next 1st round pick is in 2017, and I'm not even sure at this point where it will be positioned in that draft.

Brown is a season and a half away from 1,000 games too. Pretty sure it would mean a lot to him and Dean that he reaches that in a Kings uniform.

Next year Gaborik will change everyones mind about trading him. He is good for 25-30 goals a year for 4.8 mill. Hes great. Just had a down year. He had 27 goals in 62 games the year before . Some of you need to relax. Brown is the real player that should be moved. Moving Gaborik would be a mistake and i dont see it happening with Deans comments about him being our Selanne. Hes in great shape and will come back stronger next year. His speed and sniping ability alone gives us a threat that other opponents must take into consideration which will open lots of space for us if we have more of an open system

The one in which he was healthy most of the year. Also, even the low end is a 20+ goal pace...and that's ignoring assists.
It's a gamble but healthy Gaborik is scary Gaborik.

...which is still top 5 production rate on the team. He still has proven capability with game-breaking speed, all with an AAV under 5M. He's going nowhere.
if it comes down to retaining lucic or not who would you rather have
Lucic is 27 years old let's say the deal is 6x6
or
gaborik who is 34 signed for 5x4.875
for me it's Lucic. He is younger and does not have the injury history.

Whether to keep Gaborik largely depends on what the team's 2-3 year plan is. If we plan on playing the youth and doing a mini-retool or rebuild, then we should trade Gaborik because of his term alone.
If we want to compete for the cup next year, than I have mixed feelings about trading Gaborik. On the one hand, if we cannot get rid of Brown, trading him is the only option to open cap space for a top 4 defenseman (other than simply not signing Lucic). On the other hand, with this team's system, getting goals is tough and Gaborik is still good for 20+ goals, and has skill and speed.

I agree that it is great that he is paying so much attention to the young guys. All this crap about how sutter doesn't play rookies is asinine. Even in Calgary he put a rookie in Mathew Lombardi on the top line. The rookie just has to put in the effort and be respectful. Sutter is old school.

Ohh yaaaa ! Im hoping our team here in LA and the doctors available can get him healthy enough for the long term like they did Williams. He is a beauty on the ice and i see him scoring 20+ throughout the tenure of his stay here .

His game breaking speed makes him a threat everytime he is on the ice. Imagine him and Pearson a full year on the wings alongside Kopitar. I Love It !
you are obviously in the keep gaborik camp so let me ask you. Assuming Brown is not movable, how would you re-sign lucic?
