Just read the full transcript of the conference. Really inspiring. I am glad that he realizes that the past is the past, and they cannot continue to repeat what has been done before and expect the same result. The Kings really do need to reinvent themselves. A few teams started copying our system and other teams learned how to break our system. This team needs to be head of the pack and enter 2016-2017 season with something innovative.

Dean is also not prepared to rebuild the team, as he mentioned on several occasions that he is not going back 7 years ago again. I expect big things to happen this offseason.

I honestly think all this is good... Change is needed to move forward, similar to when Murray left.

I wouldn't say a stanley cup finals, a conference finals and a first round exit is necessarily a failure. Only one team can win it all every year.

agree with you here and to be careful what you wish for those who think it's time for a coaching change. Vancouver did not f up with getting rid of their coach but bringing in a guy who did not care to be there and did not mesh with the team.

If LA moves on from Sutter (or Sutter from LA) who replaces him would be key. Big shoes to fill for sure.

this offseason is bound to be more positive than last anyway. so many ugly headlines about the team this time last year, and situations really handcuffed DL (see Sekera leaving).

DL may have few picks at the draft, but at least he knows exactly the financial room he has. That's huge IMO

Edit: From LAKI "Last year at this time I was spending all my time with drugs, domestic violence and everything else; now we’re going to get back to finding ways to get better."

kinda speaks to what I thought would be a more positive offseason

Who else thinks Dean took the last two weeks to read hf ? I been preaching the game is evolving and if we do not adapt then we will stay behind **** sounds like I'm hearing myself speak. I love Dean.

I'm more excited because now we will draft some skill since they realize the big grinding type game is no more. Maybe we can hit some home runs ala Jamie Benn.

Stothers or Stevens likely.

definitely an odd transcript on LAKI. What would normally be one sentence answers he went on for long rants.

Yeah, you were the first on this board to call it. I think it was the same day the Kings got kicked out. You are right.

To be fair to Dean though, he was not a position to make radical changes last year or the start of this year. How do you justify reinventing a team that literally just won the cup in 2014? Now there are no more excuses, as Dean said.

If you are expecting short answers from Lombardi, you are badly mistaken. This is par for the course. I'm surprised I didn't read "New York Yankees" in this first set of responses.

usually he answers the question more direct and than goes off...this was goes, than sorta answers, than goes off again.

Who has gone on to coach and fail with the Rangers. Vancouver has the most incompetent GM in the league, I doubt DL would sink that far.

Seriously. Fail? That's just a ludicrous statement.

My opinion is people are seriously overreacting to a first round exit to a extremely good and hot team after an excellent regular season, a season where we had finalists for the Norris, Selke, Venzina and Byng? Fire the coach! Strip the captain of his C! Trade Quick! Sheesh...

Changes need to be made and I'm sure they will but all this talk of the window being closed and rebuilding is a little silly imo.

Don't worry. There's no chance the Kings turn into the Oilers or Leafs. It'll be okay.

EDIT: From the Oilers thread. Meant for information, not mocking. If posting a response from another thread is no good, just delete. Thanks.

"Chiarelli and MacTavish were at the Ontario Reign, San Diego Gulls game last night. I assume other staff was with them as well."

Could be looking at the Ducks players as well.

It makes you wonder of the dynamic in the room, and with the coach.

If coach's contract is expiring and you as a players are sitting on a longish contract but not getting your way, do you dig your heels in more than if coach is locked up for 2-3 years.

Not really, I'm sure most professional NHLer's will tell you its a failure if they don't win the Cup. The Rangers aren't winning anything with AV behind the bench, he hasn't won ****.

Brown should absolutely be stripped of his C, its apparent he can't handle the pressure based on DL alluding to him gripping his stick too tight and being hard on himself. It did a world of good for Joe Thornton on the Sharks and it will for Brown. The team would benefit from a new voice in the room, a coaching change has helped the Pens twice and have flourished both times. The team didn't sound to thrilled with Sutter down the final stretch and had a complete **** effort against SJ under him.

I assume by this you mean be bad for an extended period, obviously that isn't what anyone wants. But truthfully, I wouldn't mind going through that 06-09 (nice) cycle again, sell everybody off, be terrible and collect draft picks, develop etc. if the alternative is being a team getting bounced in the first round every year.

I have been saying that for 3 years! The big bad grinding teams have been dead for awhile (2010 Boston team the last of its kind). Just look at the prospect talent coming from the draft. It's smaller skilled guys that are there to pick. You can't make a grinding team if those guys are what you have to draft. The Kings are trying to have guys help " chip in" some goals. Instead of getting guys that can go out and scored the goals (ala...Tarasenko)

Stothers or Stevens likely.

I was thinking Stothers would be the perfect candidate. Can keep it close to existing system but knows how to open it up and use youth the talent

Or Davis Payne. I really think he's the next Kings coach. Steven is too much of a Sutter clone. The Kings have already told teams to f-off [respectively] when it come to poaching their coaches. If Sutter does stay, it will be his stubborness and the players tuning him out in 2 years that will get him canned.

So 29 out of 30 teams every year are failures. Right.

Ironically, Sutter and the Kings are one of the very, very few teams in recent year who aren't "failures" by your standards and yet you are one of the loudest calling for them to be torn apart.

I hope your boss doesn't hold you to a similar standard.

Low standards, the post. There can only be one winner at the end of the season, that's just how it goes.
