Looking at the trade board, what would people here think of 1st+Morrow for Konecny? 2 years left at $5.5 so losing Morrow would hurt here, but I think that would be enough to bring in a foward that matches up with what we think the Canes need. Could it get done without Morrow? 1st+Honka, maybe? 1st+Drury?
Maybe it's because of what happened with Fox, but we keep trying to sign Morrow and he keeps rebuffing us to stay in college.

I'm starting to get wary that his plans include 4 years of NCAA hockey and FA. So...I'm in favor specifically of moving him without shopping him (shopping him would degrade his value probably.) and making that someone else's problem before he rebuffs us again following his junior year to return to UMass for his senior year and his value drops to nil.

Morrow's not enough...but I'd rather add to him and keep the 2023 1st. I want us to make that pick.

i think Morrow wants to go straight to the league instead of going to the AHL. so we'll have to worry if we dont add him after the college season is over next year.

life long Islander fans asking if our trade deadline is a fireable offense after beating the Islanders. you cant make this stuff up. Cardiac cane has to be satire.

Teams that made significant deadline moves:
TOR: 2nd round exit, fires GM
NYR: 1st round exit, fires coach
BOS: 1st round exit and biggest choke job, maybe ever
NJD: 2nd round exit and fans want Ruff fired
EDM: 2nd round exit with the best 2 players on the planet
NYI: 1st round exit and future not looking bright.
TBL: 1st round exit to a team that never gets past the first round.

Teams that made mid tier/ minor moves / no moves and made it to the Conf. Finals

DAL: Dadonov, Domi
VGN: Barbashev, Blueger
CAR: Gostisbhere, Puljuarvi
FLA: None

Conclusion: Waddell should be fired.

Clearly, he needs to be fired because he didn't pull the trigger...........

And you thought the takes in here were bad

I don't understand how so many hockey fans fail to realize that trades are so much more than "We need this player. Go acquire him."

I know it's probably the EA Sports effect, where trades happen regularly and players (and other GMs) get no say in whether a trade gets done.

But it's astounding how many "We should have gotten Tkachuk, we should have gotten Meier" takes out there that simply ignore how each of those situations played out.

This video popped up in my Youtube suggestions a few days ago and cracked me up. Basically a guy "trade gamed" in franchise mode to go from last overall pick to 1st overall pick. Only took 45 trades in total (last pick for kicker, kicker for slightly higher 7th round pick, 7th round pick for backup lineman, backup lineman for late 6th, etc etc etc.) Very funny.

What’s wild is that Meier was irrelevant for the Devils and he was somehow the missing piece for the Canes.

in the end he got balls for the last pick in the draft? quite a let down as my anticipation was dangling throughout the video.

Brief offseason preview at ~12:00:

Mostly 1000 ft view, philosophical stuff, but a few interesting tidbits in there.

- The talk was that Staal was going to get done in season. The context in which Friedman brought it up, Staal as an offseason priority, made it seem like more of a positive than negative.

- Friedman heard that there had been some conversations about a Pacioretty return, seriousness unknown.

As much as Pacioretty has remained in the locker room and around the team all season, I'd be genuinely shocked if he's not back next year on a games played incentives only deal, leading to a 2-3 year extension if he can be decent for us and not re-tear the tendon.
With the 35+/400+ game injury returnee contracts only the imagination is the limit for the incentives. Would be silly not to tie some of the salary to the point performance.

But then again, we don't want bonus overages for the 2024-25 season.

There is value in that but also risk.
The value would be league minimum with some easy bonuses.
1: 20 games, 500k
2: 10 goals, 500k
3: 40 games, 500k
4: 20 goals, 500k
5: 30 goals, 1 million

He could earn up to 3.775 million but only cost 775k up front

At the same time, with the cap still unknown because of TVs, we don’t necessarily want to carry bonuses into 24-25.

I guess it could be plausible.
We save ourselves 2.775 million in cap space at the start.
Banking 15,416 every day say for the first 35 days of the season. He meets his first threshold
Then we are banking 12361 lets say for another 10 days to get to the next
Then we are banking 9861.

So forth and so on. It could work while leaving us with some space at the deadline
