I think Bob is extra impressive as the league has become higher scoring right now

Wonder what happens w Jordan Staal?
Sounds like he’s back listening to him talk post game last night. This is what he said btw. “We’re gonna continue to learn from this, and this core group is going to find a way to get to the end,” he said.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't really want to rely on a combo of Freddie-Koch as our goaltending duo next year. Koch had a small-sample amazing run this year, then a small-sample horrific run. Koochs first 14 games he was like .925 SV%, last 10 he was like .875 roughly, playing 24 games because Freddie and Raanta were both too injured to be our starters pretty much...he shouldn't be counted on as more than a developing backup for a year or two. Freddie, as solid as he was most of the playoffs, was wildly inconsistent much of the season (there were plenty of times "Freddie is cooked" was mentioned)...and his durability, like Raanta, is questionable at best.

Unless we're planning on running a 3-headed G monster of Freddie-Kooch and a guy like Lyon or Raanta, then we need to find some sort of durable starter at least until Kooch can prove himself to be a reliable tandem guy

Hmm wonder what the cost will be

The skater ice time leader against Staal in each series: Horvat, Hughes, Verhaeghe. Despite that, he finished with a sparkling 1.39 5v5 GA/60 and a positive goal differential.

A number that starts with a 4 would be a win, imo.
I'm not completely against Staal coming back but it's time to remove the binky from Rod's mouth. We're never going to win anything with Staal being paid that much, especially now we actually have good young players around him that will need to be paid.

5v5 GA/60 is also just one stat. But what were his 5v5 GF/60? How do both compare to his contemporaries?

1.95. His line plays low (scoring) event hockey. That's okay given the quality of competition. Just end up in the black.

I'm not sure who to compare him to given that there are few true matchup centers out there.

There's a tightrope that they have walk here between adding goals for and adding goals against. Kotkaniemi did not have a great showing for a prospective matchup center. More GF (2.45), yes, but more GA (3.54) too.

I agree and think bringing in a Hellebuyck level guy for Koch to back up should be right up there on the priority list

Brindy has become a punchline throughout the league. It's been pretty brutal today

This is why you stop following social media at least for a week or two lol.

I appreciate you actually responding with numbers (I truly didn't know) and giving some context.

I guess I have to be honest as well in that I am just over the Staal family, it has been 2 decades now. If Jordan wants to sign 1 year sweetheart deals with the understanding the savings go to making the team better, I am all for it. But if he still wants to be paid after being overpaid for years, let him test the market.

Brindy says what's on his mind more than many coaches and sometimes it comes out a little weird. People can act like they don't know the point he was clunkily trying to make and dunk on him but there are a hell of a lot of teams that would love to have him as coach and get where we did.

Canucks fans: try’s to ship JT Miller and his contract off to another team.

Other teams fans: “No, we would never take on that contract for the type of player Miller is”

Canucks fans: offended, gives multiple paragraph long essays on how underrated a player JT is and how much value he brings…….immediately then proceeds to attempt to ship him off to another team.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Yeah, sports fans are famous for complaining about the "Bull Durham" canned/vanilla answers that athletes and coaches give, then go off when one speaks his mind and shows some personality.

It’s easy to kick a team when they’re down. He’s obviously just saying “it was 4-0 but every game was really close and we were right there with them, didn’t feel like a sweep based on how the teams played on the ice.”

Let dumb fans be dumb fans. Go win a Cup next year and dunk right back on them.

To be fair, you know if an opposing coach said that about us, even if the sentiment was similar, our social media team would be all over it.

his xGA/60 was almost double. Freddie bailed him out some. he is slowing down and getting older. I hope we dont start with 4 unless its a 1 year deal only.

I'd actually be happy going high for a 1 year deal. Let Jordan have the one last crack with this core.

Looking at the trade board, what would people here think of 1st+Morrow for Konecny? 2 years left at $5.5 so losing Morrow would hurt here, but I think that would be enough to bring in a foward that matches up with what we think the Canes need. Could it get done without Morrow? 1st+Honka, maybe? 1st+Drury?

i wouldnt trade our best prospect in a deal for a guy with no control. We cant extend him until next season. too much of a gamble.

Hopefully Staal gets no more than 2 years with him gradually moving to 4C. KK is a 3C and the crying need down the middle is a RHS 2C like Lindholm. The Canes lost a ton of draws with guys being forced to go on their weak sides. It also helps with puck distribution to have a top 6 RHS because D's can too easily over overplay when all the C's are LHS. Obviously a sniper is also needed and more physicality in the top 6 and third pairing on D.

I understand that these trades don't make Vancouver better. JT Miller has played well for Vancouver.

So if Miller is playing well for Vancouver and they aren't seeing good value for Miller on the trade market, why not keep Miller and build around him and Pettersson??
