Bettman was commissioner when Montreal won the Cup in 1993.

A team that collapses doesn't get more scoring chances than the other. This is a false narrative that's perpetuated just because they lost 4 out of 5 close games, and the 5th one everyone knows they absolutely should've won. Other than game 3 it was either a pretty close game or us outplaying them by a lot in game 2 and 5. If you don't think Bobrovsky was the reason Florida won that series then you would be 100% wrong.
This picture should hang on in your bedroom whenever you watch the Leafs game, wake up, kid.

Why? This team will never do anything about it. Someone should have ran him right then and there and take him out for half a season. Sometimes a suspension is worth it.

This is league full of maniacs, coached by maniacs and run by maniacs, go get some maniacs Leafs. There's no integrity in this game and no class. At one time you had Gary Roberts, Darcy Tucker and Shayne Corson on the same team. They all did shit like this and got away with it all the time.
That was pre-Walkom and pre-Parros. If the Leafs had that team now, Roberts Tucker and Corson would have spent have the games in the box and half the season on suspension.

Problem is, you can watch it over and over and NOT see or hear the ref blow the whistle and for a guy that apparently deemed the play dead, he seems awfully interested in skating to the net, putting both hands on it and looking down watching it go in. Their reasoning makes no sense. They were scared to call it a goal plain and simple.

This is true too.
Or you can see that the ref is in perfect position to decide when the play should be blown dead, and to know whether or not the puck is in at that time.

The only reasoning that makes sense is that he was in the right position and made the right call.

That play doesn't change Leafs coffin location at all, they deserved to be the winner based on Leafs poor performance. Toronto was bullied by cats, beaten up physically
Both outskated, outhit and bullied around ice for loose pucks and giveaways ... our skill was not able to do much which is exactly what happens to Matty Mitch and JT every single playoffs and it will occur in every future playoffs each will ever participate in .. only guy we got who can play above regular season is Willy and that is because he has another speed gear .. when you can shift to 6th you can't catch what you can't see

The officials are not terrible at their job. They are not dumb. Each is hand-picked for the position by a billion-dollar corporation. There are 4 of them patrolling a quite small ice surface, and so observe every situation from every angle. They are well trained and very good at doing the job assigned to them. All 4 of them commiserate after each game-influencing call to "get it right".

So just for a moment, give yourself permission to believe the officials know exactly what they're doing. Now visualize the most egregious bizzare calls or non-calls... what realization pops into your head?
Fans believe what they want to believe.

I'm actually way angrier about the two phantom calls against us in Game 6 vs. Tampa Bay last year that put us down 5-on-3 and allowed them to tie that game than I am about any missed call on this play.

I'm can live with letting Gudas's hold of the stick go, but Holl's "interference" in Game 7 vs. TB last year also should've gone uncalled.

We do seem to be on the wrong side of these breaks more often than not though.

I'm just sick of watching 82 games of one sport and then having it turn into a different sport for the playoffs. It's stupid for me to get interested and be happy about them winning and performing well when they have to play a very different game when it matters most. This one may be the one that breaks my spirit. Probably not completely, because that's happened already, just probably even more guarded and cynical. Sorry for the downer post...needed to say all that since it ended. They couldn't just get swept like a normal team, they had to suck us back in and give us that tiny bit of hope.

lol, dude, just take a look at the last 30 years. It's not just the Leafs, but Canada as a whole. But the Leafs are def. a big target for the NHL to f*** over when ever possible.
So the NHL tells it's on ice officials to target the Leafs? Lol, dude!

If you want to read about some negatives to legal gambling and a massive gambling market in your sport look up the work of Declan Hil.
Anyways leafs could have played better for sure and not went down 3-0, but I wish we had a league officiated by AI or something which would call every call every time.

I've said this before:

A large portion of the league (including the officials) grew up in the GTA loving the Leafs or elsewhere in Canada hating the Leafs. The ones that love the Leafs are afraid of looking biased (don't forget this includes the war room doing the reviews in Toronto). The ones that hate the Leafs...uh...hate the Leafs. This is also why the Leafs never get a night off in the regular season. Every single game some opposing players are treating it like their Stanley Cup because they either bought tickets for 20 family and friends or they...hate the Leafs.

Sorry but I've seen enough over the years to know we're not getting fair treatment. My point is, it doesn't need to be a conspiracy theory, it can be explained completely by human nature. And being Leafs fans, we're also not allowed to complain about it without getting the LMFAO troll treatment. It's a vicious circle. I couldn't care less. Leafs got jobbed badly in game 5.

Just so I understand how this works, this fear of looking biased only works one way - with the officials that loved the Leafs - correct? Those officials that hate the Leafs harbour no such fears of looking biased, right?

This was clearly a missed call.
The goal should not have counted.

But regardless…. It’s very tough to pretzel your mind into thinking that the leafs not only would have won that game but 2 more….

Getting to 6 or 7 and losing just muddies the water for what needs to be done

I agree 100%

Better to have not even gotten this close, forces a rethink of the team that should have happened after the Montreal series.

Even if the leafs take a step back next season, changes have to happen now for a better future

I don't disagree that the Leafs need to show more backbone, but do you really expect them to start a line brawl at the conclusion of a series?

1993, not one Canadian team has won...Bettman became President, Vegas can get close to win, Seattle maybe. Chicago tanks and wins draft. American money at its best.
This is not a prediction, this is history.
The Canadian market is saturated. Getting 5% growth would be difficult, the USA however is a barren wasteland by comparison. Getting 10% growth would be scratching the surface. No Canadian SC's since Bettman took over (he was named prez in Feb 93, Canadiens won 3 months later and also same playoffs Gretzky high stick no game misconduct same year??) Is it just coincidence that an American is hired to grow the game south of the border and since that development not 1 Canadian team has won a Stanley Cup??? Inquiring minds would love to know.

They’ve had their chances. Vancouver went to the finals in 94. Edmonton,Calgary,Ottawa,Montreal have all been to the finals since 93.
Canadian teams just haven’t been great in all that time.

Someone yells victory right in the face of my heartbroken rookie goalie just after a series ending goal? You're godamned right I do.
