After a disappointing season it was good to see the old Muzzin in the playoffs. I expect him to pick his spots during the season, but step it up in the playoffs. Fingers crossed he remains healthy for a deep run.

Jake Muzzin was on former Stanley Cup teams in LA, and some fans seem to think because Matt Murray was on Stanley Cup teams years ago also that, that means something.

So there is that. !!! ..

Not sure what that is, other than playoff experience, however both are also struggling with health issues recently, so there is also that, so fingers are crossed they remain healthy.

Waiting to see how it plays out. Hope for the best but expect the worst. It is the Leafs afterall. Last summer, I recall many saying Kase was going to get injured given his history with concussions, so I pretty much expected nothing from him. Turned out he was great until he was concussed against CBJ.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal

oh yeah they like holmberg too. nice.

That second line intrigues me. I think Nylander is reenergized playing with his countryman and I think Pontus adds some defensive acumen to Nylander's tremendous offensive talents. I want to see more of Malgin on this line to see if the first game was an anomaly. Just throwing this out there, but could Tavares be the 2LW we're looking for in the coming years. 🤨

Is Douglas not going to draw in? Don't seem to be hearing anything about him in this camp.

Is he hurt?

My extremely uninformed opinion is that he came into camp not in shape and Keefe is playing the guys who had an NHL summer - ahead of him.

The value is fine but it makes for a tricky roster scenario.

Moving Holl for picks would get us under the cap, but not enough for us to carry anyone over the 20 man minimum.

I’m no Holl guy but the concern would just be can Sandin even bring the ingredients that make Holl useable?

Nothing wrong with that. Pretty normal that sometimes a coach wants more

Keefe mentioned later in pre season. It does seem like the team feels he further away than some believe.

While he certainly is not NHL ready as some believe, that should not preclude him from playing at all.

Minten is consistently getting spoon fed opportunities and SDA is playing and Douglas is more NHL ready than him despite being only a few months older. We are also playing guys who should not be anything more than AHL veterans, like Simmonds, Clifford, and Blandisi.

I'm one of Douglas's biggest fans. I'm surprised that he hasn't drawn in, but then I also don't have any expectations that he gets a shot until next year either. I just think he has a lot to learn in his game, and improve his skating.

A quiet 3 assists for Giordano on Saturday and an apparent pairing with old partner Brodie, the pair seems to be an option to be the 2nd pairing to start the season with the injuries and holdouts currently plaguing the Leafs. How long can Giordano put up top 4 minutes? Does he get switched back with Holl when Muzzin returns? Benn paired with Rielly isn’t going to scare Sandin into signing. Is our defense a mess or will we be OK? I know it’s only preseason but I hope I’m not asking these questions in 2 weeks.

Would you prefer I said "my guess" instead of "my uninformed opinion"? Opinions still allowed here?

The way I read your post sounded like maybe you heard a throwaway comment on the radio or a podcast, but if you’re just guessing you’re just guessing.

I don't think the team is as excited about him as the fanbase is.
He’s 6’9 and Malgin is 5’9 … should tell you all you need to know about who they prefer in the lineup :sarcasm:

So how close is this to being a final deal?

Doesn’t another move have to be made to get Sandin signed in order to fit under the cap? Or does Liljegren being on the IR give them that flexibility?

My rationale for my guess is that no injury has been reported - and based on his very good pro season last year he deserved to slot in ahead of a few others thus far. Could be anything really....personal reason/situation a million things.

Could be anything really. The most generic explanation I can think of is while he’s a unique physical specimen and will be an up and coming player to look out for, he’s still raw and lower on the depth chart needing to polish up details to be a reliable depth option.

Obvious we want to see him out of curiosity but like everything else with prospects, patience.
