This is what people don't get. The Leafs literally had the worst goaltending in the league after Jan 1st, and still put up 115 points.

The playoffs were really no different (sub .900) as the rest of the 2022 part of the calendar.

I have never seen a goalie starting so well only to take a nose dive. Usually goalies has a very good year or a bad year. Never the total opposite of each other

Gaudette admitted, “I couldn’t eat after training or a game for a couple of hours. My muscles would deteriorate. And I was just not able to repair my body and to recover from the strain that I put on it.”

Gaudette added that with a “revamped” diet his stomach issues have “pretty much all cleared up.” He hasn’t had problems, was able to maintain his weight during this past season, and has been putting muscle on during training.

He now feels “great. I have more energy. I’m able to do two things throughout the day without being lethargic or tired.”

Gaudette added that his game was “back now. … I have the confidence and I just need the opportunity. It looks like I’m going to be able to get that opportunity in Toronto, which I’m really excited about.”

Maple Leafs’ general manager Kyle Dubas became convinced Gaudette’s game was on track when he saw him play on Team USA at the recent world championships.

I hope Gaudette can show Maple Leafs’ fans what I saw when he played in Vancouver. He has a bit of Mikheyev’s, David Kampf’s, and Mitch Marner’s defensive game in him. He seems to be able to anticipate offensive plays, fill the passing lanes, pick off pucks, and turn them toward the opposition’s goalie.

no successor needs to be named. Dubas admitting Shanny giving him this last year to show a playoff win or hes likely out

A successor needs to have been named to be a "lame duck" by definition. Dubas told the media that Shanny was not going to give him an extension, and that he is fine being judged on the season. If he doesn't perform to what Shabny's exoections are then yes, he won't be offered an extension. Even if he exceeds the expectation, he can choose to go elsewhere.

- Nice to see Holmberg up over 200lbs. He looks ready to contribute anywhere in the lineup.
- So Robertson is now 5'10" 183lbs. Not so tiny.
- Willy just keeps getting bigger
- gaudette surprisingly big

ufa wingers shooting themselves not taking the 900k deal to play beside vintage JT and 200 pound puck protection beast Nylander.

I remember Gaudette having a lot of hype coming out of the NCAA. I think he showed some good stuff at the World Championships too.

I think he's got the inside track to a 4th line role at the very least.

They know as much about their teams as the Leafs know about theirs.
I wouldn’t say that. The Leafs unknowns: 2nd line, 3rd line, 4th line, goaltending and D pairings.

They have options, but those options haven’t done it in Toronto.

Yeah, maybe not the exact lines. 1 player will win a job on the second line, the third and fourth lines have to be worked out in camp, but they know what they have.

Take a massive pile of muscle and slap a nice flowing wig on it and you basically re-created Nylander

The only thing unknown about the d pairings is which very good dmen play with which other very good dmen.

Do people think other teams lines and pairings are set already and won't change during the season?

Really sucks about Lilly but better now than the end of the season. Get better soon.

Lots of interesting tidbits of info. There should be a few spots in the lineup up for grabs. It should be a really competitive camp especially for some of the young guys. There may be a few surprises and some get a shot early in the season.

Would be neat to have a thread where we all got excited about hockey rather than thread #78,000 about Dubas

I get what you are saying, and no, not every thread should be a referendum on Dubas. Of course, he just had a presser, and that he isn't getting a contract extension at this time, or during the season, is important news.

There are several threads about that, including one specifically for that presser. Really don't see how his career relates specifically to training camp. Is he out there skating for a spot on the team? Time to bust out the ignore button on y'all actin foolish.

Anyways, love this quote I just saw from Bunts - this is the attitude you love to see. Guy is a warrior.
