Something is tied to McQuaid. Plenty of teams want him a third is hardly a big deal to give up. He’d be gone by now if there wasn’t something bigger involved is my concern. I think trading kreider is a massive mistake imo.

The ideal scenario for us is Kreider to Nashville or Boston if it were to go down. I would hate to see the uncertainty about Kreider linger over the off-season and into the 19-20 campaign.

Wonder what Edmonton is up to? I would assume that phone is a ringing?

Just go and check the trade board. They are run exactly like a NHL franchise would be run if you picked ten random posters from the trade board and put them in charge with a majority decision.

I think I'd rather keep him than take a 3rd rounder. I think he has potential to be a really solid mid/bottom pairing guy and he's still young.

We have plenty of guys like that though in the system along with smith at this point

What? Claesson is significantly better than Smith. It's not really close. And when those guys actually become NHL players, we can still move him.

Our D is f***ing atrocious. I just don't think it'd be wise to move a cheap, solid, bottom-pairing guy. I'd prefer to keep him and I think he can be a part of the rebuild.

Yeah, could be.

There is literally nothing I want on Toronto for Kreider.
Agreed.

Dubas has said Sandin and Lilljegren, their top 2 prospects, are off the table. He's said Nylander isn't getting traded. Obviously Matthews, Tavares and Marner aren't either.

Discussion of this is fueled by Toronto media. "Oh look at this great player on a rebuilding team, he should be on our team instead." No care to how it could happen.

It seems plausible that NYR are mulling a TML offer for Kreider and McQuaid together.

Pretty confident that management would only settle for an overpayment though. I agree with previous posters that trading Kreider would be a mistake. There are extremely few players like him in the league.

Then sign him.

I would think that's the other option. He has the makings of a great leader, wouldn't cost top dollar and would likely age better than most (considering his peak physical condition). Deep down, I hope they commit a decent contract for both parties and slap a C on his jersey.

Would it be off based to suggest the deal was valimaki and a 1st for Hayes with an extension and the hold up was checking on the extension w Hayes. Once they realized it wouldn't work they pulled out? Reading between the lines on Maloney's interview today they were in on something big but it ended up not making sense bc they won't trade prime assets for a rental, i read that to mean they worked on something to possibly be a non-rental, but extension didn't go anywhere.

Maybe I'm nuts...

I think you're onto something here.

An extended Hayes would be similar to the Turris trade we saw last year. 3 assets from Nashville
