It seems plausible that NYR are mulling a TML offer for Kreider and McQuaid together.

Pretty confident that management would only settle for an overpayment though. I agree with previous posters that trading Kreider would be a mistake. There are extremely few players like him in the league.
Toronto can't make an overpayment. They don't have attractive enough assets to get Kreider.

Pretty much anybody is going to do that just in case the unforeseen happens. The only team dumb enough not to is Ottawa.

That is actually what Ottawa did. They decided to take Tkachuk and give Colorado their 1st this year instead.

Many thinks that lottery protection means that you are protected from giving up a top pick. You are not. Its not even that much protection, if you suck so much that you have to use it one year, its not that unlikely that you will suck the next season too.

Think Claesson, McQuaid, and Namestnikov all get moved.

Guessing that we hold tight on Kreider.

Think Skjei, Shattenkirk, or Buchnevich could be moved.

Probably not plausible, but maybe it can't be completely ruled out... ;)

I sign Kreider to an extension as soon as I can if I'm Gorton.

Mika-Kreider can by a dynamic duo for at least 5 more years. And Kreider is going to be just fine even if he starts to slow down, he's a bonafide elite net front player.

Toronto has nothing they'd be willing to trade that would make it worth it for us. You can't go for quantity over quality. Five turds don't equal one diamond.

I give him an ultimatum though.

Sign by July 1 or pack yo' shit.

He is entering his prime and fits the timeline much better. I also don't know how you could argue he's a 'straight downgrade' when he has produced at a higher level than Kreider ever has.
Kreider is on pace to shatter career highs this year, and I have no reason to think that's a fluke.

Nylander is also a vastly inferior all-around player who isn't particularly good at anything but scoring.

One of the things that makes Kreider an elite net front player is also one of the things the declines in some players as they get older. You don’t know it won’t happen. No one does.
