Where is the rumor coming from that Dalton Prout would be the piece in a deal for Hayes. JG is not a fool, despite what many think here.

The centerpiece for a trade is not going to be OLDER than our guy on the outs.

Supposedly the Calgary board, which seems to be more wishful thinking on their part.

Ehh....All boards overrate and underrate. I have no doubt that many on our board are expecting too much and will likely react similarly to the Zucc trade once all is said and done. That being said, I think Hayes will garner a 1st+B prospect.

If he can't get a surefire first, then I'm torn between whether they should entertain signing him or not. A 5 year deal brings him to 32. He should still be very productive until that contract expires.

Same thought this morning.

Given some of the less than impressive Round 1 results, Hayes was a solid gift (and Georgiev, and Pionk...and Vesey too, to a far lesser extent...that’s my Vesey compliment for the year).

Vesey has improved every year and he might actually hit 40 points this year. Let's see how he does now that Zuccarello is gone.

Rangers sit in 22nd after last nights results. Games for the tank tonight.

  • Rangers Vs Washington (Caps!)
  • Chicago Vs Dallas (3pt Dallas!)
  • Detroit Vs San Jose (Detroit!)
  • St. Louis Vs Minnesota (Wild!)
  • Calgary Vs Ottawa (Sens!)
  • Arizona Vs Winnipeg (Yotes!)
If all goes well Rangers will be 24th and teams a head will get more space.

The sens over calgary one makes me laugh.

Both Dumoulin (concussion) and Letang hurt yesterday. Shattenkirk? Smith? McQuaid? It's not like Pittsburgh has a lot of young assets though but if Letang is out for a while Pittsburgh is in deep shit.

The Zucc trade is a weird trade because the way it is is kinda meh, but if a single pick becomes a 1st, then its a robbery in my opinion. If Nill actually loves Zucc the way it seemed for the past few seasons, and he actually resigns him. A 1st and a 2nd is an absolutely fantastic deal.

It's a trade we really won't have a handle on until July.

since he came up yesterday as a hopefully return for hayes...random fun fact. back in 2015 we got a 2nd round pick when TB re-signed callahan. we then turned around and traded that pick as part of the Keith Yandle deal. it later ended up with the flames and they drafted Oliver Kylington with the pick.

If that's how you want to read it. I read it as 20% thought it wasn't bad. Or average to great. I don't think those poll results are that negative.

I mean of the 4 possible outcomes, 2 would be steals, 1 would be good and 1 would be disappointing. That 1 though that would be disappointing is most likely to happen though, in my opinion.
  • 2 1sts (Steal)
  • 1st and 2nd (Steal)
  • 1st and 3rd (good value)
  • 2nd and 3rd (disappointing)

LOVE the idea of being able to move Shattenkirk. OR Smith. In general, I'm REALLY hoping that we move some pieces beyond Hayes and McQuaid in their deals in order to acquire a really top prospect or two rather than just picks and second-tier prospects. My own f'r instance would be to throw in Fast... who to me has taken a bit of a step backward this season but could be just what some teams need in a playoff run... or one of our own very-good-but-not-amazing prospects in order to get back a real blue-chipper.

It’s hard not to love Zucc if he shows up and plays like he’s capable of playing. If he goes there and turns back into mopearello they’ll let him walk for sure. If he demands a 5 year deal he’ll walk although I can’t imagine anyone giving him that.

But there are advantages for Dallas. No income tax states are very desirable to players. So they have that going for them. Listen there’s no way they win two rounds so that second is a second. Forget the stipulation. I’d say there’s probably a less than 50/50 chance he stays because I just don’t know how he’s going to take this trade. If he plays the way he’s been playing they’ll want to keep him. They could use someone with some personality on that team. So obviously if he stays getting a first instead of a random b prospect is a homerun. But it’s a stretch for sure

Imagine having your top pairing wiped out in a matter of seconds. Also, with the Pens' lack of depth on D the bottom might just fall out on them. Schultz is on the way back but he is no Letang.

-2 1sts: 1%

-2nd and 3rd: 90%

And that’s being generous

If the Hayes trade is a disappointment, we’re running out of trade assets and the rebuild won’t be a success

Thing is, we’ll have a good amount of cap space and we’re always a draw for free agents. It’ll be easy for us to attain pay and dumps that can stockpile rd 2-7 picks (or higher depending on performance).

My biggest concern is how all these picks develop (especially once they’re in the AHL).

This doesn't make sense because you're saying that if the Stars go to the 2nd round, there's a 100% chance that they resign him.

Edit: I may be wrong and it might mean there's an equal chance he'll resign or not (i.e. 50/50). Which is more realistic, but still probably off.

Let’s look forward.

I like ESPN’s suggested “trades we’d like to see made” deal:

Refilling the Jet fuel
i
i

Winnipeg Jets get:
F Kevin Hayes

New York Rangers get:
Jets' first-round pick in 2019,
F Nic Petan,
conditional future pick
