No bearing IF they have NO intention on it. Agreed.

No. No bearing period. I don't think the Rangers will not pursue him in hopes that Dallas signs him. If they want him back, they'll make an offer, assuming he makes it to July 1st.

Same is probably likely for Dallas. If they see him as a good addition for the future, they won't mind swapping the first rounder for him, in all likelihood -- although, here admittedly it could be more of a factor.

Maybe it's a larger deal.

They really don't have the space. Giordano, Hanifin, Brodie, Hamonic, Andersson, Kylington and Valimaki... Someone's the odd-man out.

Calgary is good. They're going for it. The west is theirs to lose .
They really are. We shouldn't even be contemplating sending Kreids there, as it will hurt Dallas' chances at WCF. :sarcasm:

"A young defensemen" from Calgary could mean a lot of things. Far more likely to be a guy like Brandon Hickey who is a C level prospect and played for Quinn at BU than a guy who is eating minutes on their NHL roster.
We already have someone eating minutes. We need someone eating QUALITY MINUTES. Screams Pionk, doesn't it?
Another love affair for Quinn? No thanks.

wonder if rangers will make a condition in Hayes trade that Dallas will not get to second round to hedge their bet a little
Or better yet, trade with another Western team on a similar "if" they win 2 rounds (Nashville or Calgary?) At least then we would be guaranteed a #1. :sarcasm: :teach:

So, after a night of sleeping on this, my gut is telling me that this deal is going to end up this year’s 2nd and next year’s 1st, as Dallas ends up re-signing Zuccarello. Dallas is the best prepared to give him the money he wants, due to the lack of state income tax. An owner who needs playoff revenue is a lot less concerned about draft picks than he is with winning. So, if it ends up a 2nd and a 1st, the value is fine.

I’ll buy a ticket for that train of thought.

If you’ve been following @BBKers on this subject, he’s long been saying that Dallas has been long enamored with Zuccarello. He gives them a proven top six winger to complement Seguin, Benn and Radulov, to whom they’ve made long-term commitments to. It wouldn’t surprise me if Brassard ended up there. So, I think the commitment is there from Dallas. The question becomes Zuccarello. If he likes Dallas, he’ll get the payout he’s looking for.

It appears Hayes will be traded for sure. And I guess it’s fifty-fifty that McQuaid goes. I wonder if any other irons are in the fire.
That has got to be more than 50/50. Pittsburgh just lost Letang and Dumoulin. Letang to the rescue after Simmonds gives Dumoulin a concussion.
They had better get McQuaid, or they might drop like a rock with that iffy (to begin with) depleted defense.

Pitt, St.L and Islanders have been VERY quiet. Surprising in the Blues case......unless they think its a fluke with Binnington carrying them, same with Isles and Lehner.

OK so just to recap where we currently stand...so Hayes to Calgary and the guess is 1st and a young defense men? Oliver Kylington (D) is who we desire but the majority of Flame fans say he is the next coming of EK so its too much and it should be Prout a 28 yr old meh prospect. Also if it is Kylington it has to be with a resigned Hayes? Hence the GM at MSG to meet with Hayes Reps. Seems like there needs to be Cap considerations in the form of us taking Neil or retaining on a signed Hayes? Why isn't McQuaid gone yet? Is he part of the Flames deal? Also the Habs GM was here yesterday what could he want? Strome? Names should go too. Zuke deal was an initial let down but the market sets the price and we as fans were over exuberant.

Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but I have a hard time seeing Calgary in need of Hayes. They have 3 centers and amazing chemistry. Maybe they are trying to get Dorion to pull the trigger, float a rumor that they are ready to move on.

Don't know if Stone goes down today or at the wire. The sooner the better. A trade out west will force an arms race.

Boston is interesting because they are such a good team but some key pieces have big mileage. They could be a center away from going deep. Brassard would be cheaper but Hayes would be better and he fits their recent "All New England" initiative.

Nashville has 5 centers already and they don't trade roster players away lightly. Vegas is finally showing some caution. Winnipeg is still a destination.

I look forward to the answer in episode XXXVII.

It's amazing Neal doesn't have any trade clauses. Calgary can fit Hayes without salary coming out. If they want to acquire a goalie like the rumored Howard, maybe we take on Smith. Mike Smith has an 8 team NTC and he probably has Detroit blocked.

I respect the grit and scoring ability in Neal's game but I don't want to take on his contract at this point.

Dont think they do sign and trades like that. Team A trades player to team B then player signs contract with team B. Team A can retain on the original contract not the new. Plus hes going to sign a 5 to 7 year deal. Wouldn't want the Rangers retaining on that long of a deal.

Also should note the Rangers can retain on just one more contract this season.

Good points, good questions. Why do I have this crazy notion that McQuaid "really is" a HUGE want throughout the league.
Muzzin, Jensen, Lovejoy all traded......not that they are McQuaid in any regard......but maybe we will get that 2nd for him, here is to my pushing, and pushing.
And if he is part of that Calgary deal, should make it that much easier to get Kylington AND that 1st.......right? Me thinks.

Rangers sit in 22nd after last nights results. Games for the tank tonight.

  • Rangers Vs Washington (Caps!)
  • Chicago Vs Dallas (3pt Dallas!)
  • Detroit Vs San Jose (Detroit!)
  • St. Louis Vs Minnesota (Wild!)
  • Calgary Vs Ottawa (Sens!)
  • Arizona Vs Winnipeg (Yotes!)
If all goes well Rangers will be 24th and teams a head will get more space.

One interesting note. The Rangers gave up nothing to get Zucc and Hayes. Pretty good asset management there.

Same thought this morning.

Given some of the less than impressive Round 1 results, Hayes was a solid gift (and Georgiev, and Pionk...and Vesey too, to a far lesser extent...that’s my Vesey compliment for the year).
