That's fine, but from all I've seen, Oliver Kylington has 65+ pt seasons in his future as a 30 minute a game D, who can skate stride for stride with anyone in the NHL, even McDavid.

Hayes would have to win a Hart Trophy to make that trade digestable.

Talk about overrating your prospects. 65 points??

Hmm

Tough to say. I truly believe when all said and done this will shake out as Zucc for the 2nd and 3rd. If either of those conditions are met I’ll be blown away

I’m leaning towards yes though because in that scenario they’d land a 1st with no condition
I think theres a good chance he resigns in Dallas. But I’d be pleasantly surprised if they make the confrence finals.

Kylington, Valimaki and Andersson... How'd you rate them..

You will like Hayes, he drives the play and owns the puck but he can make some 'Hayes' moves. You'll learn soon enough.

Kylington is the best of the three. Physical when need be, incredible stick for breaking plays up, great "sense" for when to attack the blue line and when to hang back, great vision and technical passing skill, and creativity, hard worker, great hands in tight, incredible shot, total snipeshow could score 20+ goals, and I wager he is a top 5 skater in the NHL along with the likes of McDavid, Larkin, Karlsson, Point. His physical gifts are jaw dropping but the amount of rapid progression he made as a two way D means the sky is the limit.

Valimaki is second. Love him and think he is at minimim a top 4 defenseman. The best of the three at net front coverage and stapling guys to the boards. Also a plus skater and has excellent hockey IQ. Could be a legitimate #1 himself somewhere along the lines of McDonagh or Subban, but even if he doesn't hit those lofty heights will be a guy every top 4 would want.

Andersson is a few tiers below. Hockey sense is high but doesn't quite process the game at the same blistering speed as the other two, causing him to throw some rushed passes or occasionally get walked, but that might be inexperience. He could top out as an ideal #2 guy, all the tools to log 22+ a night. Has a great point shot (and knows how to use it) and that has allowed him to be a huge part of our second PP unit already. Likes the physical game though he's not the biggest body. Biggest question is if his shutdown game can truly develop. If it does, 40+ point #2D. If not, he'll top out as a 35-ish point #4D. He did have some games elevated up the lineup, including one where the Brodie-Andersson pair got McDavid duty, and he did admirably within his limitations but I do believe they got kicked in on the corsi that night.

Stanley is a magical first round pick.

Hajek 5 points in 60 games? He's young, HFD is bad.
Stanley 10 points in 60 games? OmG hE sO bAD
I’d really like Stanley if we didn’t have a logjam on D. He’s improving steadily

I was only joking about him before, but now that I think about it, if Hayes went to Calgary with an extension a package of Jankowski, Kylington and a 1st is a very, very similar package to what Jordan Staal got when he went to Carolina. Flames upgrade their #2C and upgrade their #3C position as a by product of that. Rangers get two younger guys that can fit into the rebuild and another 1st rounder.

It appears Hayes will be traded for sure. And I guess it’s fifty-fifty that McQuaid goes. I wonder if any other irons are in the fire.

Flames fan coming in peace, really interesting to see what happens if this deal comes together for Hayes... especially at the rumoured cost of the first and young D.

Feel like first and any of the young D is an overpayment alone for Hayes, so interesting what comes together.

Where do you see Hayes fitting into the Flames' lineup?

I’d guess if that’s the price, there’s either some huge bidding war for him or the Flames think they can extend him

2/3C
He likely will be asked to drive his line if he’s the 3C or he’ll play with his cousin as the 2C.

Makes sense. Would that free up Jankowski then? I think one of your young D and a 1st is a bit much for a pure rental of Hayes, but a little light for Hayes with an extension. Jankowski, a D man, and your 1st too much for Hayes with a contract in place and an add from the Rangers like Claesson?

I assume if that’s the cost, he’ll be traded and signed the same day.

It’s more than likely the 1st + someone like Kylington if that’s the case. For a signed Hayes, it’s a price I could probably live with.
Right this second I’m expecting one of those dmen and a conditional second based on resigning, but if he does return a straight up first I’d also assume he’d be resigned relatively quick. There was a report Gorton met with his (and Zuccarello’s) agent about what they’d want on extensions, so he’d have that information for teams trying to trade for Hayes

It’s too much. Jankowski is valuable youth piece for Calgary.

With that many moving parts it gets ugly. If Janko was added the Calgary ask would be nasty. They spend a long time developing that kid.

Interesting to know. I wonder if the delay at this point - assuming there is a delay; people were saying it’s a done deal, so I’m just speculating - is the Flames talking with Hayes’ agent.

Fair enough. Trouble seeing where he fits in with Monahan, Hayes and Backlund ahead of him I guess.

So as of right now, the Rangers have:

1 first round pick
3 second round picks - two of which could become first round picks.

Let’s assume Hayes brings back a first.

That would give the Rangers 2 picks in the top 31 and 5 total picks in the top 62, with the potential to have 4 picks in the top 31.
Compare that with our current top 10 prospect pool to where we were over a year ago. Gorton can be criticized for certain things, but he has done a tremendous job in building our future pipeline.
