It really could be an issue. For example they wouldn’t be able to retain on both Hayes and McQuaid. Let alone doing something more creative with other high-tag players like Smith or Staal.So it's a non issue. If TB wants to send us Cally and a 1st round pick we're still ok.
Also, teams that want Ranger players are in theory loading up and likely to be up against the cap. The ability to retain is valuable capital for the Rangers.
Not saying it’s going to be an issue but it’s certainly worth noting. And I’m sure Gorton and other GMs have it front of mind when negotiating.
