GDT: Official Trade Deadline Thread II

Granted I haven't paid much of any attention to Ott's play - he may very well be a good option - but I feel like bringing him here would be akin to when we signed Brashear after what he did to Betts. He'd probably get a lot of hate and get ran out of town.

He'd be a more physical version of Avery. Well, Avery the first time around.

Him and Brashear? Literally comparable in NO way.

If Boyle was used correctly by the coach, I'd believe much of this board who hates him (myself included) would be more or less satisfied with his play. This is not the case though. He is far from a 3C. Far. He should never sniff power play time, and if the Rangers are down a goal late he should not be on the ice in crunch time.

Thing is, taking Boyle away from Torts might just be addition by subtraction.

He has 2 points, he's a -11. I believe he's only been on the ice for four, count them four, NYR goals this season. That's pathetic, and not the capabilities of a 3C.

Yes, everyone not named Stepan or Nash have been a bit of a letdown this season (sticking to forwards for that logic) it shouldn't make the conversation surrounding Boyle any less apparent though. And most other players struggling get their fill here. People **** on Gaborik, Richards, and others all the time, but only Boyle seems to have that crew defending him.

Great post. Agreed 100%

But that's not really accurate. He can easily fill in on the 3rd line. And, frankly, when he plays wing? He sure looks like a half decent 3rd liner to me. His ideal role would be 4th line wing who takes faceoffs. Paired with a second center like Powe. That way you capitalize on Boyle's faceoff ability AND his wing ability.

I agree with you there

Erm, who is he supposed to utilize? I think you meant to say, "Slats is the problem. He didn't acquire a 3rd line center after we traded Anisimov."

Yea, i probably mis-worded that. He doesn't have a better option. I'm pretty sure we're on the same page when it comes to Boyle. I honestly don't want to trade him unless it's A) a stupid overpayment or B) for a clear cut replacement who is better than him.

Agree with Jonathan. where he said that Sather is the issue for not bringing in a true 3C. Bang on. That thread from before the season started should be forever stickied.

HA. I'm the stupidest person alive. Mixed Ott and Kaleta up. Ignore me forever please. I'm going to go hide in the corner for a while now.

Gaborik and Richards have proven they can play at a high level, as recent as last season, yet they do not.

Boyle had one fluke season and everyone *****es and moans that he doesn't score 20 goals. He's not a 20 goal scorer. A lot of us see Boyle for what he is. A great 4th line center on a contending team. A guy who can also be versatile and slot in on the 3rd line while killing penalties, throwing the body, winning faceoffs, etc, doing all the little things.

I have no excuse for Gaborik and Richards. This teams offense is abysmal, but Boyle isn't counted on to fix that. He's counted on to be out there playing defense and shutting down other teams when we have a lead.

Gaborik and Richards, they should be scoring. I really don't know what else i can say about them. They don't score, how do i defend that. They've been horribly underperforming.

Jimmy Murphy @MurphysLaw74
Apologies if already reported but per NHL source, Coyotes D Derek Morris has been asked to & submitted list of 8 teams he'd waive NTC for.

Wonder if Sather wants to go down that road again?

I think we agree, but are making our points differently.

The season Boyle scored 20 goals I knew he'd never sniff that again, I'm not expecting 20 out of Boyle, hell, I'm not expecting 12.

I think we both think that it's a shame that Tortorella has to use Boyle as a 3C, when it is so much more apparent that he is a fourth line player.
