GDT: Official Trade Deadline Thread II

31 games in, 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 pts & also a -11

A true asset. How lucky to have him as our 3rd line center.

I'm done trying to explain to you why he is. if you can't see beyond a ****** season, then i don't know what to tell you.

everyone sans stepan and nash are underperforming this year. guess we should dump them all

I would do it. Bogosian has a shot (as shown on Monday)
All though he'll probably lose it if he comes to the Rangers

I liked Hannan when he was with San Jose previously. Would be such an upgrade over Hamrlik its not even funny. I think the gave up a 7th for him
Not anymore. He is NOT an upgrade over Hamrlik, and I'm not saying that because I think Hamrlik is any good. The game has passed Scotty Hannan by.

Well we we talking about possible replacements if nhl players wanted to stay locked out.... so. .. nash and stepan + replacements get it done! !

If you think Boyle is a third line center I don't know what to tell you

Brennan Klak @nhlupdate
Seems to be a lot of interest and calling in on Jason Pominville. Lots of teams want him.

Granted I haven't paid much of any attention to Ott's play - he may very well be a good option - but I feel like bringing him here would be akin to when we signed Brashear after what he did to Betts. He'd probably get a lot of hate and get ran out of town.

He's a 4th line center who can fill in on the 3rd line adequately. I would prefer him to be on the 4th line, but anyone saying he's trash (which is like half this board) just does not watch hockey.

I'm not saying he's complete trash I'm just saying he's not a third line center

I would not mind trading for him. If you do that and we let Gabby go this offseason, we save over 2M

I wouldn't mind it either.

I'd rather put Gabby's $7.5M into acquiring another center, though. If there's a reasonably good player available, that is.

No comparison, Ott's played out west until this season, no real history vs NYR

What has ott done??

But that's not really accurate. He can easily fill in on the 3rd line. And, frankly, when he plays wing? He sure looks like a half decent 3rd liner to me. His ideal role would be 4th line wing who takes faceoffs. Paired with a second center like Powe. That way you capitalize on Boyle's faceoff ability AND his wing ability.

Please find a post where i said that. Please. he's a fourth line center, but is OUR best option for a 3C at the moment. If we can upgrade him with a player like OTT, that's fine. But we should still keep him.

Stepan
Richards
Ott
Boyle

Very good depth at center. All of you guys sit here and blame him for how much torts uses him. WTF is he supposed to say, hey torts, i'm not that good, quit playing me so much.

Torts is the problem and utilizes him far to often. But you and other posters SEVERELY overlook our lack of center depth. If we just trade him for scraps or a pick, who inherits his role. Powe who's done nothing? Newbury who is a career AHL player? Miller who has shown he has A LOT to work out before he sticks in the NHL?

With any of those 3 as our third line center we aren't getting past one round in the playoffs.

Why do you think boyle wasn't hated on so much last year, because he was a 4C. He's a very good role player who has shown he can step up in big games. He was great for us down the stretch and in the playoffs last year. He's the kind of guy that becomes a hero when teams make runs because he steps up. You don't trade a guy like him if you want to make a run. Especially when you are so limited on depth like the Rangers are.

Stepan
Richards
Anisimov
Boyle

Comparing Steve Ott to Brashear? :dunno::huh:

If Boyle was used correctly by the coach, I'd believe much of this board who hates him (myself included) would be more or less satisfied with his play. This is not the case though. He is far from a 3C. Far. He should never sniff power play time, and if the Rangers are down a goal late he should not be on the ice in crunch time.

Thing is, taking Boyle away from Torts might just be addition by subtraction.

He has 2 points, he's a -11. I believe he's only been on the ice for four, count them four, NYR goals this season. That's pathetic, and not the capabilities of a 3C.

Yes, everyone not named Stepan or Nash have been a bit of a letdown this season (sticking to forwards for that logic) it shouldn't make the conversation surrounding Boyle any less apparent though. And most other players struggling get their fill here. People **** on Gaborik, Richards, and others all the time, but only Boyle seems to have that crew defending him.
