No, most proposals and suggestions are not thought through. It's very easy to say player a, b, or c would look good on this team, and trade x, y, z, they suck. The loss of depth in the off-season should be a stark reminder that there are consequences for getting rid of players and bringing in new ones, no matter how good or fitting they are for NYR.

However, if anyone here had the capacity to see the team and make moves in the same manner people hired within the organization do, they'd probably have a job in hockey rather than posting here. With that being said, should we just curb all discussion of trades and roster movement because no one here is really qualified to be an NHL GM? Obviously not, so it should be expected that there will be a myriad of conversation that sounds nice, but isn't really well thought out.

Im not asking for NHL executive-type analysis here. Just a basic understanding of values of a player, terms on contracts, etc.

Trading for, and then extending, a beat up Ryan Clowe would be a ****ing disaster. Yet, too many people dont see that.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 49s

I would suspect SJ will get some draft picks, including additional or conditional pics, if Clowe re-signs with team that acquires him.

No to Clowe . . .

. . . unless the price is the equivalent of Boyle + 3rd.

If we get Gleason AND Clowe, where would Hagelin play...

Gleason would probably earn a spot on the 3rd line. I don't see how Clowe doesn't earn that right off the bat immediately as well. Neither Gleason or Clowe is a center, meaning Boyle would be their center. Hagelin would then look to be the odd man out. No bueno. Those advocating for both, it would be great in principal, we just have way too many wingers right now and not enough centers.

Which Gleason are we talking about?

I really don't want Clowe. What's all the fuss about him?

I felt the same way until i looked at his numbers. He's 30 years old....... last 7 seasons below......

Further to @TSNBobMcKenzie, Sharks now going to Clowe and asking him where he wants to go. Close to a resolution here.

I have been against clowe all year. I just don't understand what people are thinking. He is clearly beat up. 500 NHL games. Pierre McGuire was just on siriusxm. He basically said Clowe is banged up, he is even slower than he used to be.

But it looks like its gonna happen. I'll accept it only if the price is right. I'm praying it is.

Uh... Last year, even with a down year, he had more points than all but 4 of our forwards? He has consistently been a 20 goal per season play-making winger throughout his career? Plays left wing (a need of ours). Brings toughness and good skill whether he's slotted in the top 6 or bottom 6. Big improvement in depth. Not a bad cap hit for what he provides. Its a pretty big list. The fuss about him is pretty easily understandable.

He's having a bad season after having injury problems, and there is some concern that he'll be on the wrong side of 30 soon. But that said, as most people who have been fussing about him have acknowledged, he's not worth it if the price is too high (either as a rental, or if he asks for too much of a bump to his salary).

Well, looks like we won the Clowe "sweepstakes". Not sure how i feel about this at all.

Hopefully we got him for dirt cheap by i doubt it.

Is this team really in a position to be buying at the deadline?

Unless this season's suckiness has been a facade to then come out awesome during the playoffs, I don't get it.
