They were working with a ton more cap space. Makes things a lot easier. We also paid extra for the extra year on Bjork's contract.
Jones has 5 more years + retention
What do you think the value of Spencer Knight is?
I don't know, he's an enigma. He is currently an overpaid goalie who spent time in the Player Assistance Program. He definitely has the least value he ever had

Too bad about Jankowski. I would've paid a 4th for him to beat Carolina's offer. I would've really liked Zetterlund though, and based on what Ottawa paid, I think Tampa could've had a shot at him if they were willing to give up one of Gauthier/Duke, the 2nd and Ace for him instead of including Gourde in the other trade.

Save that man like you said. He needs to be here next season to learn from Point, Yanni, Oliver, etc. Let him start down the lineup and work up. He's got the talent, kid just needs to beef up a bit more and learn.
The jump from NCAA to NHL is intense enough. Howard's season will end late enough that he'd basically be making a debut in the NHL playoffs.

top 4 D is a cap dump?
When he's making 9? Yes. FLA got the contract down to the point where it's reasonable. But we still wouldn't have been able to take that on without more retention.

We acquired a good contract and we got 75% retention on an expiring contract. You have to pay for both of those things.

Cap space helps keep prices down.

It's the Laffs for God's sake. The minute the calendar flips to May:

Yeah but the first round is in April, and Vasi's numbers were .897 (192 / 214) and .875 (161 / 184) the two times he's played them in the playoffs. .887 overall in 13 games. It's pretty awful.

So now that the dust is settled how did we do with our trades compared to other teams?

With the assets we gave up, could we have done better? Now that we see where other players went, for how much and factoring the cap space we used.

like Craig Janney? wait Bob Carpenter scored 50 goals right out of St Johns Danvers High School, dont count the kid out......
I'm pretty sure fringe NHLers still worked summer jobs in the 80s.

I don't want to burn a year of his ELC, in any case. The contract probably wouldn't slide to the next year if he plays fewer than 10 games.

Tomorrows game looks like a trap.

We filled the two main gaps (top 6 RW, 3rd line C/W), kept our best prospects (Geikie, Howard et. al.), and gave up picks that would do nothing for us until after our cup window closed. I give it a solid B+ or even A.

JBB did very well. Prices were pretty high this deadline, and Tampa had a clear need to add at least one top 6 RW and one middle/bottom 6 F. JBB added both, and likely got the best top 6 RW that had term and was realistically available (an argument could be made for Rakell, but Bjorkstrand is younger, more consistent, injured less, and a better 2 way player). Gourde wasn't necessarily the other F I thought he'd bring in, but given the familiarity with the organization and the system, it wasn't a surprise.

I think a player like Zetterlund could've been an option, but JBB perhaps didn't want to jettison any of the top 4 or 5 prospects that are close to ready or have a lot of potential (Geekie, Duke, Howard, Gauthier and probably Finley).

A couple months ago, adding a depth dman seemed a bit more important, but Tampa's defense is much improved l, amd now with the return of Moser, even stronger. They also have depth options in Syracuse if needed (Pouliot, Crozier, Carlile etc). Last night's game not withstanding, the defense has looked quite good in the last month or so.

So even though they didn't add a 4th liner with size or an additional #6/7 dman. I believe JBB addressed the most pressing needs of the team. They are definitely better than they were 3 days ago, and perhaps it will be enough to being another Cup to Tampa this season. The team is also very well set up for next season, with most major players under contract and with not only the potential of 1 or 2 impact prospects making the team, but with enough cap this summer to add one impact ufa, either a middle 6 F or a 2nd pairing caliber dman.

I think Vasi is over his down years now. We're getting vintage Vasi this year along with a much improved 3rd and 4th line. That's going to help immensely.

Yes, zero retention on Marchand's 6.1M caphit
Boston retained 50% Florida would have been above even with LTIR. I think Marchand either pulled a kane or due diligence from Boston to choose his destination on where to go.

Really shocked canucks didn't move boesser also Canes fans are beyond what the hell is going on lol
