I think with his poor play Pettersson has made himself absolutely untradable. Vancouver has been trying to unload him the whole time without seeming desperate.
I wanted the club to trade for him because I truly think he just needs change of scenery. I also truly think now that that change in scenery should not be here anymore.

Given the prices so far, at this stage, I guess the biggest trade we can expect is something like Kyle Palmieri for Minnesota's 2027 2nd, Colorado's 2026 3rd and James Malatesta or something?

I guess defense is to be addressed completely in the off-season.

I can't see much movement from us unfortunately. I think these last two games (even if they were exceptionally bad on our part) showed the gap between where we are and where we need to be to compete with the top 4-6 teams in the east. We just aren't ready to mortgage anything that will matter in the future and since the team also doesn't appear ready to ship out guys to maximize assets (provorov, Jenner) I don't see any reason to do much this deadline and just hope that the return of Monahan, Jenner and Chinakov carry us enough to win our head to heads with the Rangers and Ottawa.

So DW won’t make a move, Jackets will miss the playoffs and then come draft day they won’t find anyone who wants their picks. Sounds like a rehash of the Jarmo years.
Calm down. This team wasn't supposed to be in this position this year. And the market isn't there to add without potentially mortgaging the future. The team isn't in a position where they want or need to mortgage the future.

Yeah.

He should ship out a ton of assets to land someone who will be a net +2 to +5 goal producer over who they currently have in the last 20 games of the season.

The aggregate return on "rentals"over the past decade can't be too high. Especially for teams who are borderline playoff teams.

The CBJ has outperformed all reasonable expectations and are on a secular uptrend. Giving away the store for even a Rantonen short term makes zero sense this year.

Lol jarmo was one of the most active GMs in the league. Almost every summer.

And Don’s history in Carolina says he’ll be active too

I wonder if the Jackets went after him what would the package from us look like ?
It would involve Kent Johnson, I'd imagine.
voronkov++ maybe? I'd do that without hesitation. they're not trading him without an extension in place, and we have more than enough cap for it.

can definitely understand the rationale – it's a weird market right now where there are so many teams on the bubble, so fewer sellers, ergo fewer pieces available and higher prices.

at the same time, it just feels like the worst of both worlds. they're missing out on favorable market conditions (provorov would get a massive return) and still have clear roster weaknesses that now won't get addressed.

Okay cool so we use the picks and keep filling up th prospect pool, is that such a bad thing? Having your prospect pool constantly overflowing is never a bad thing.

Why does room chemistry matter so much if the guys in the room aren’t good enough to make the playoffs?

Prospects don’t win games and become a factor for at least half a decade in some cases.
