Is this guy trustworthy? That sounds terrible for Florida.

Still not seeing it elsewhere so I think the Lundell bit was probably fake. It just doesn't make sense. Losing him would make Florida less of a contender.

Would be funny if none of the media showed up. There's nothing to talk about. I suppose the team staff media like Svoboda will have to be there.

Tell it to me straight now that the TDL has passed, are we winning the SC this year?

In all seriousness, how did we do in comparison to the teams we are competing with: Devils, Wings, Sens, Rangers and Habs?

It was on TSN. I listened to Chris Johnston say it.

But it does appear to be wrong

While we are competing with those teams for a playoff spot, all those teams are at a different points in the project. All the teams we are competing years into their projects, CBJ are in year 1 basically. So while they were more active than the CBJ, they had more of a need to be active.

NHL Network SiriusXM says Marchand trade to FL is for a 2nd round pick.

The Sens adding Zetterlund I think is perfect for them. They need to play hard and he's that sort of player. We're basically tied with them now, even though they've been playing dead uninspired hockey for a while. But with the Cozens-Norris change of scenery swap and the Zetterlund add I think they are more likely to be a problem. Cozens will have to pick it up though, there's some risk there that he is a downgrade, he hasn't been good this year.

I looked through the other clubs and there wasn't much substantive to write about. None of the trades they made in the last couple weeks are difference makers.

Insane the power of being in a warm, tax friendly state. Florida, Tampa, Dallas, & Vegas are absolutely killing other teams with how they are attracting and managing talent. Unreal that we had Zito here and this is what he is doing when given the room to run,

I’d like to keep them both. A D core of Z, Fabbro, Provorov, Mateychuk, and Severson (hopefully add in a shutdown guy somewhere) is appealing to me

I would be okay keeping both if we added an actually very good shutdown presence. As expensive as that would be I would like a D group like that. But I think the team would more likely treat Provorov as the shutdown guy if they kept him.

The winning has to be factored in. Florida and Tampa were god awful for a very long time, and the weather and tax status didn't change. It was only recently - when the Kucherov, Vasi, etc... core emerged that players started paying to go there, and with Florida it wasn't until Zito. Have a look at the roster before Zito arrived, it was all Florida draft picks and a few middling veterans like Brian Boyle and Keith Yandle. The aggressive win-at-all-costs moves are what makes players demand to be there, similar to Vegas. Players don't even mind that Vegas will stab its veterans in the back, because they think they're too good for that and they want a team that won't put sentiment above winning.

I'm fine with how Waddell handled the TDL.

I get the feeling that Provorov is a self-rental. Maybe we get Monahan back in time to help the team finish strong. If they do and barely miss the playoffs, that's still a successful season right now.

Of all the trades involving futures for a top 6 forward, the Nyquist and Marchand deals were the only ones that seemed reasonable. I suspect Marchand had a bit of a say in where he would go, and that Boston tried to do right by him, so I dont think it wouldve ever been in the cards for us to be in the conversation there. So, for the futures-types trade at this deadline, getting Gus for a 2nd is the only one that I feel we missed out on (and maybe Nashville prioritized acquiring a 2026 2nd over our potential similar offer of a 2027 2nd - who knows what we offered).

All of the other picks-for-players deals were a little too rich for where we at in our window. I wouldnt have touched that Nelson deal as much as the player wouldve been an upgrade.

There were other player for player trades that werent obvious upgrades in one direction (Cozens/Norris, Mittelstadt/Coyle) that wen't against what Don was trying to do with keeping the team together.

Overall it was just a very expensive deadline and I think we might be better off having done less. It's underwhelming for now, but we still have a lot of assets to use coming up when the prices might be more reasonable.

I warned y'all. Don't say I didn't warn y'all.
