I put 50 bucks in a Draft Kings account. I had my balance up to just under 400 bucks. I then lost a bunch (including losing out on 200 bucks on a parlay on that Philly game a few games ago where they blew the game with .2 seconds to go) and I got my balance back down to 50 bucks. I withdrew it and am out just like I said I would be.

That shit is a trap and it’s going to ruin people. People can go on and on about “freedom of choice” all they want but the “incentives” they offered are full on meant to reel you in to what equates very closely to a drug addiction. For the first week you can lose every single bet and they’ll throw money at you to keep your balance up to make you think you know what you’re doing/can beat the house (you can’t).

I encourage everyone to either avoid it altogether or make a NO EXCEPTIONS commitment to put money in once, take the bonus’s to see what happens, and then get the f*** out before ever putting another penny in.

I like many of you have milked the bonus money they were handing out.

I knew the ads were coming as I have seen rollouts in Illinois, Michigan, Philly, and New York/NJ. Ontario went to another level with the ads.

NESN is making big money with sports betting advertising and now they have a dedicated website

When I was driving a cab to get through school the old Cambridge Yellow garage on Bay St was the biggest bookie shop in Cambridge and it was supervised by Jimmy from South Boston who reported to Howie Winter in Somerville - I think many of the old timers reading this are connecting the dots.

I find it curious that Encore and Plainridge are not advertising at this time letting FanDuel, BetMGM, and DraftKings saturate the market in ads.

I carried over $34 from old DFS into FD. Used that and the bonus crap and made like $600. Withdrew into Venmo and back down to the $34. Couple hockey bets tonight. If I don’t win cya later, thanks for the money. Unfortunately most people will continue to line their pockets.

I'm not a big gambler at all. Before kids (late 90's/early 2000's) my wife and I would go to Foxwoods 2-3x a year for something to do.

Now this is almost 25 years ago, so the numbers seem crazy but we'd leave the house with $150 in cash and leave the credit cards in the car.

$50 for each of us to gamble with and $50 to have dinner when we were done. Sometimes the $50 would last 3 hours, sometimes it would last 45 minutes but, unlike a lot of people, we were able to bet what we could afford and walk away when the betting money was gone.

Fast forward to a month ago. We went to Encore to check it out and, used the same plan, this time with $100 each and we had a great time, winning a little bit but still being able to walk away.

The one caveat --- when I was down to my last $25 at the roulette table, for the first time ever in a casino, I said to myself -- "if I lose this $25, I'll just hit the ATM for more money since my wife is still going strong". Luckily I hit on that spin and ended up winning a couple hundred and walked out up about $175 when all was said and done.

It was at that point that I really understood the pull that some people might feel to keep playing when they shouldn't.

And they don’t have David Allen Boucher to lull you to sleep anymore.

Riveting radio this morning of Fred talking about his dating life. These guys can’t be gone fast enough.
Clearly this was after he suggested Jaylen Brown was an anti semite and part of a specific group Woof. I hope it gets him at least suspended bc that take was awful.

Over the years if everyone got suspended or fired when you called for it for someone saying something you didn't like there would be no one on air.

Yeah, I'm not totally convinced he's not. At the very least he sure is sympathetic to definite anit-semities.
I hear you and I agree however I wouldn't say he is part of a specific group like Fred did. That is what I took issue with.

Honestly, I think Jaylen hasn't quite figured out how to disagree with friends/teammates on personal beliefs and not let it impact the relationship.

I stopped listening to sports radio around 4 or 5 years ago, with the exception being the hockey show on Saturday mornings.

I don't know why people subject themselves to this crap..
I have not listened in years not worth my time ........... I also only listen to the hockey show , the best part about the hockey show is you don't need to agree with the hosts or guests but their opinions are not get ratings and be dicks they just like the game and call it the way they see it , They probably would disagree you and I and I like to think we are not saying shit just to piss everyone off..........

i want waaf back.
i miss that morning show and rock music

My 65 year old father (who didnt get into WAAF until somewhere in the mid 2000’s) agrees.

When I left metal behind is when I stopped listening to AAF. But I won’t deny there’s some nostalgia there and I was a teeny bit sad to see it go. Other than once on the Sports Hub’s launch day, it’s the only radio station I ever called into and got on the air.

Plainridge probably isn't as much outside as inside.... same w/ the racing that track does generate..... similar to why Scarborough bailed as the town changed direction.... hence why the focus has gone to Cumberland Raceway the last few years....and that contract hasn't been renewed past this upcoming season.... yet....

First Tracks Cumberland FOR Those unfamiliar since the closure of 'The Downs' AS IT is now known as.... unknown if the grandstand of the track there has been demolished since it closed, the OTB there also was fazed out

The old days before Fred became a bitter old man and they had Adolfo as the comic relief character were the best. Now they're hard to listen to and I feel bad for Rich to have to sit through Fred's shit.
They were great with BCN and even in the early days of the format change. Fred has gone off the deep end unfortunately. I still find Wallach and Rich to be extremely likable guys, but i don’t think the show lasts much longer

Agreed. But I feel like Beasley is also really hindering their strengths. No more drunken recaps. They likely have to jump through hoops to get Brookline 911 on.

I don't feel bad for WEEI considering they dug their own hole by keeping turds like Dennis & Callahan, Glenn Ordway, and Kirk Minehan on air for so long, and I literally haven't listened to a second of that station (outside of Sox games) since about 2009, but part of me would be sad if the station went defunct just because of the historical footprint it leaves behind going back to WHDH.

But that station continues to dig its grave because apparently one of their on-air personalities called Mina Kimes a racial slur this morning
