How will anyone be able to withstand the Habs wave-after-wave of secondary/complimentary/role players?
If Toronto competes as hard an Montreal, we win 9/10 times.

I feel like we've been fishing for a Hyman 2.0 in Vesey and Joey Anderson. Hopefully one works out.
No reason a guy who's scored 16, 17, 17 goals can't see a slight bump to 20 playing with a guy like Tavares, who has shown the ability to elevate wingers.
Vesey is being paid based on his Buffalo tenure, but it's the body of work with NYR that is encouraging.
Habs fans so excited to lose on January 13th that they've already made a pre-game thread about it. 6 days before the game. 6ix!
just always remind them that their " biggest acquisition" this off season had the same amount points that martin Marincin last season. It's a laugh and a half. Seriously it's all making fun of our lineup, not realizing that their lineup is a bunch of 40 point players.
I feel like Matthews goal totals drown out how good he was defensively as well.Good, he's fantastic on the draws, and very strong defensively.
Will also satiate the dummies on the main board who believe that if you don’t PK, you aren't good defensively. As if the 2 have any direct correlation.
Some hilarious takes on the Habs board about it atm. Guy comments and says his blocked shots will stay at zero. What must be heart breaking for him to hear is that matthews had 30 THIRTY!! More blocked shots than any forward on Montreal last year, and never played the pk. He’s exceptional at it.Good, he's fantastic on the draws, and very strong defensively.

Is this some kind of schedule joke?If Toronto competes as hard an Montreal, we win 9/10 times.
Man oh man it happens every year. I'm reading all the super positive stuff from the writers, watching clips of soft but highly skillful practice goals, my imagination running wild with the giddiness of the new seasons honeymoon and the hope that after 53 years they'll finally push it over the finish line.
I don't want to feel this way but I do
Joe doesn't need to do a whole lot with Matty and Mitchell, just get the puck to either one of them and we all know Jumbo is an all world set up guy.
I initially thought that Vesey would slide onto Kerfoots LW due to some playing time together at Harvard, but I don't mind Keefe trying him out with JT and Nylander. Vesey has real good speed and will be really compliment Willie Ny, he possess' the ability to retrieve pucks and importantly knows where his own end is. He may be a more gifted version of Buster given the right motivation.
Looking at the proposed 3rd line of Soup - Kerfoot and Buster gets my blood flowing. All three have excellent speed, great offensive instincts and play an NHL top level 2 way game, if this line stays intact I don't know if there's a better 3rd line in the league, how do you defend them after trying to stop lines 1 and 2
Simmonds - Spezza - Barabanov/Robertson/Anderson Not sure about Barabanov nor Anderson but any of those 3 guys should be fine with Spezz and Simmer, all they need to do is gain and maintain possession and chip in now and again.
The D is how this team will ultimately succeed, the addition of true #2 in Brodie has done so much to upgrade the skill level of the entire group that the 3rd pair will consist of 2 guys who could challenge for 2nd pairing time on at least a dozen other teams. The second pair anchored by Muzz will be formidable whether he pairs with Holl, Dermott, Lehtonen or Sandin there isn't a noticeable drop off talent wise with any of those partners. Again not to get too excited and not to be too premature, but this defense may be the deepest they've iced since the mid 70's group led by Salming and Turnbull and possibly the best since the early 90's pairings, when the Leafs were among the best defensive teams league wide. However unlike the early 90's teams this team will be among the league leaders in offence.
argghhh I didn't want to say all that
Well said! That's what being a fan is all about. The ability to get excited every year, or at least all the years not specifically tied to a rebuild. I get that after all these years, certain fans can't, and if that's the case, maybe time for a new hobby. It's the mew changes and the excitement of a new challenge/journey that makes being a fan wonderful. I feel for the fans who can't feel that year after year, even with the letdowns.
Matthews is also a 90% better option to score over Marner so that should put the other team on edge if they make a mistake.Honestly makes more sense than Marner on the PK. Have a center take the draw and he was much better defensively 5 on 5 than Marner last year.
If it starts taking away from his offensive game take him off of it, but it's worth a shot.
I feel like Matthews goal totals drown out how good he was defensively as well.
For example trying to explain to people how much better defensively Matthews is than Draisaitl is extremely difficult to get through.
Hopefully Matthew's takes marners spot on the pk, marner was not good at it.

5. Kopitar
6. Eichel
7. Reinhart
8. Larkin
9. Barzal
