Official Francesco Aquilini Thread

Every time this thread gets updated my heart flutters a little. Hoping that FA has done something so incredibly stupid that he's forced out. Alas, 'tis not to be.
It’s like it’s kinda the only thread of consequence since unless what you mentioned occurs, does any of the rest mean anything? :(

One of the best things I learned about myself is that I can just drop a hobby and get back in when I want. I control how I engage with it, not the other way around. I've already been through the in-person pain of 2011. I've had my dreams and enjoyment crushed. There's nothing this sport can take away from me.

So can this team actually accomplish anything for a sustained period of time with the Aqulinis in-charge? No, of course not. I also don't care anymore. I just want some fun trades, signings, and good hockey. There's far more important things in life and I won't let some horrible billionaires dictate anything about me.

Looking at what happened to the Hawks... and the rumours from his wife and kids, I don't think there is anything he can do that would force him out. We are stuck with him... for worse.

NBA got rid of 2 owners in LAC and Phx. NFL got rid of the Carolina. Houston owner passed it onto his son. Snyder finally out after years of garbage.

Look at who the NHL has approved as owners over the years.

In a league where rape abaters get rewarded with a generational talent, Blueberries isn't even the worst out there.

Bettman desperately wants the NHL to have the same standing as the other major leagues but by spreading the league thin, it needs every sugar daddy it can get

So many bids for the Sens. Seems like there are no shortage of people who want a pro team. Pretty sure the league would be fine without the Wirtz family in the game.

I've been a bit surprised that there haven't been as many Frank selling the team murmurs as there were years ago.

Each year goes past with no dedicated practice facilities and a cramped, old arena. Everyone hates him. The family rep is so shit.

They could probably make a fortune by selling the team and keeping the property. Tenant the arena in the short term for an absurd rate while new owners are forced to throw down major capital expenditures for a new arena and practice facility.

Not sure why the practice facility is taking so long. For an owner in that space that is very peculiar. This isn’t a tech mogul or retailer as the owner.

Pretty much my point of view as well. One of the reasons I'm fine with the "re-tool" is because we get to see the management team squirm their way through their cap challenges, they have not been averse to making big trades, and whatever you think of their strategy, they have shown some smarts at the tactical level that were completely absent with the former guy. It's also fun to watch Petey, Hughes, Kuzmenko, and even Jonathan Tyrannosaurus Miller.

We have to admit the Canucks will never win a cup with current ownership (not just FAQ), move on with our lives, and cease the endless self-flagellation the hairshirt crowd seem to love.

Ottawa sale would mark the 3rd NHL team sale in the past couple of years with Pitt and Nas. Not to mention sales in the NBA of Phx and Mil within the past 9 months and 2 NFL team sales in the past year or so.

Used to think you wanted local ownership, but clearly other teams are being sold to multi billionaires so they will be based wherever they are. Plus, with the Aquillini's who really cares about being local. Just want good ownership. Their job is to hire good people to run the team. Listen to their evaluation of the team and then hold them accountable for their execution of their evaluations. If their people fail, then make a change. And provide the resources needed to be successful.

Local ownership is a nice to have. The main attributes you want in the owner/ownership group are:
- ethical
- understand how to build long term success
- able to delegate

Basically the opposite of what we have now.

Look at the cost of getting in these days. Nfl like $5 bill as the floor price and rising. Need net worth of closer to $10 billion.

Nhl is $900 mill for the middle of the pack teams. So net worth at least $2-$3 bill.
Nba is $3.5 bill for middle of the pack. So like $7 billion or more net worth. (All on a single owner assumption).

How do most people who have that kind of wealth earn their money?

People become super rich in many different ways. There are many who do so by building successful businesses that provide products or services people want to buy. Usually these owners understand how to plan for the long term and to how to delegate work that is outside their area of expertise. I'll admit the "ethical" part might be challenging.

if reynolds doesn't get the sens, he in theory could be an aggressive bidder for the canucks...
I want Snoop Dogg. Edit: I'm serious.

would very gladly take snoop dogg as (part) owner, he could actually make the canucks cool...

Yeah the ethical part is hard to say these days. Wealthy people have a certain way of doing things so aren’t going to change for anyone especially when they make it big. No reason to change their ways and methods.

If they weren’t ethical making their billions they won’t change once they are multi billionaires.

Jim Benning's time running the team caused the overall value of the franchise to take a bit of a hit (compared to other franchises) but that didn't even shake FA.
If we know one thing, it's that Francesco really doesn't understand opportunity cost.

Yeah. A criminal and vocal gang member who talks over prefabricated beats he didn't make. Can't play any instrument. Can't sing. No discernible talent.

Yes. He would make us sooooooo coool.

Fredolini trying to put together an autobiographical film about himself? I wouldn't be surprised lol.

Side note, Jennifer Lawrence is starting to sound like a whiny child, and quickly approaching Brie Larson level of annoyingness.

The article headline is very clickbait-y.

The absolute misery comment was about the first day of shooting, which was shortly after covid restrictions were lifted, it was like the first time Chalamet had been outside in months and Dicaprio spent the entire day breaking down a songs meaning.

She goes on to say that working with the two talents was a great experience.
