Linden was the one pushing for a slower rebuild through the draft and Benning had the quick re-tool plan. Since one got fired and the other extended for 3 more years pretty obvious which direction they went with and the stats suggest it was the wrong direction.

This is all on Benning.

You are wrong. He pushed for a slow rebuild in the summer of 2018. Untill then he was on the retool train. It should have been clear for him in the 2015-2016 season that the team needed a rebuild but he went on and signed Luoie. Linden is guilty along with Jim and Aqua for all that happened between 2014-2018. He took some shoots at Gillis but he made the playoffs with the team he inherited. Starting from 2015-2018 when he and Jim purged most of that team , we have a win percentage of around 30%.
This reabilitation of Liden needs to stop. He just jumped of the Titanic with the first boats.

I wonder what made Trevor change course in 2018? Keep in mind we don't know TLs side of this but I had always thought he was a "rebuild guy" so maybe I am wrong. Either way the entire 8 years was a shit show regardless if it was Benning or Linden with more share of the blame.

Just glad that era is in the rearview.

He is a bit smarter than Aqua and Jim and after talking with people around the league he realized he was wrong. It was late. He should have done this from the start but Liden was quite arrogant. Remember the summer summit where some fans asked pertinent questions and he brushed them aside? Something like: "we know what we are doing".I think it was the last time they held it because those fans showed how ignorant the front office was.

Trevor was many things to Vancouver but being arrogant is not one of them.

There are some users around here that have been at that summer summit. For sure y2k is one of them. Maybe you should ask him.

I can see where this opinion was born and wont disagree...hard to separate TL the player from the exec at times, at least it is for me. Cheers.

I don't really understand what do you do around here other than pumping tires for Linden and Stan. You also seem to argue for the sake of arguing. That summer summit was live on youtube. I think you can find it and judge for yourself.

lol....not arguing at all and literally the first time commenting on either TL or Smyl for the most part, maybe from years back. In fact I'm not even debating with you sorry if you see it that way not my intention maybe it is too early...lol. Just don't see TL the same way as you and evidently other fans which is all good and valid but doesn't really change my own opinion. Have met him several times and didn't get an arrogance vibe but then again that was near the end of his playing days. Have good day...cheers.

We are not talking about Liden the player my friend. He was arrogant when he was president when talking to the fans who questioned his choices. That is what i'm talking about. Outside of his president role, he is a nice dude from all accounts.

The way I see it, and... Not much to back this apart from my view of Trev as the person, before he joined Canucks management;

Trevor trusted Benning and Weisbrod, as he him self had zero experience running much of anything, let alone a massive sports franchise. And as he learned and got more comfortable to trust his own opinion, he started to question what was going on, and at that point it was too late and he got pushed aside.

There ABSOLUTELY was a time where he ended up being a snake oil sales man for Aqua and JimJim. How witting, is up for debate.

Maybe the road to admission that a rebuild was necessary took a few twists, and turns. However, when we got there it wasn’t allowed to take place. That’s on ownership, not Linden. It was ownership who pushed for making the playoffs every season without having the pieces in place. That pressure lead to the brutal trades and ufa signings we went through after Linden left.

Linden was just as responsible for the shit show that was the early years. However, he at least learned from the shit show. Giving the scouts, in autonomy in 2017 after management got tunnel vision on Juolevi, not signing any contracts longer than 3 years that offseason, and going around asking how other GMs rebuilt showed that he was at least learning what happened the previous years was not going to work. Then he he was let go in the summer of 2018, but lost power in Feb because Benning reported directly to ownership and we went back to the accelerated rebuild plan. That being said I still don't want him anywhere near a management role again.

Linden was definitely guilty of picking a bad GM and stubbornly defending stupid decisions (never forget him defending the Sbisa extension) but reports are he also stood up against some of Benning's worst instincts (protecting the span of control of Judd Brackett) and by all accounts he did see the light at the end and got turfed for it.

I met and liked Linden as a player but he was visibly stubborn and arrogant for most of his tenure as team president.

I personally think Linden did the job of the President of the club, took the heat off management and coaches.

You guys can think he was arrogant and what not, but he took it all head on.
 
With Twitter these days, it's almost impossible to tell real from fake.....I find it hard to believe that the real Aquilini would take to Twitter-verse to complain about the media in Vancouver.

I think the real owner would have commented on the fans booing and the jersey toss, before ever taking on the media.
