For starters I wouldn't go 4-4-1.. but if they had to then yes... demers as much higher upside... at least he contributes to offense and if sheltered a bit more could be just fine...but i would leave them both exposed.. neither is a big loss

Well sorry, because it looks as though 13 and 6 will be protected somehow. I’ve been saying it for months and I’m not surprised by it one bit.

Like I said pysyk or demers is no loss at all.. I am surprised by 4-4-1 but not a bit at who's protected.. a lot more at play than anyone one of us know too many moving parts. And sorry about what? I said pysyk and demers were equally redundant basically big whoopie.. I didn't know how bad they thought if demers I guess.. one of your boys signings lol

Assuming we lose March. Who do we think could replace his offense? MY guess is Tallon would be looking for a winger with size and a lengthy track record of producing offense. Or does he think it's prospect?

Mamin should be good for 15 goals, need to sign a UFA winger to Bjugs line anyway (or Trocheck line if Jokinen plays with Bjugs).

  • Gotta hope Bjugstad bounces back to at least 15...(+8 goals)
  • Full season from Huby (+10 goals)
  • Ekblad bounces back (+5 goals)
  • Say Barkov can play 70 games (+5 goals).
  • Bounceback year from Smith (+5 goals at least).
  • Maybe Matheson improves (+3 goals)
  • Healthier year from Jokinen (+4 goals)

There you have it. That's 40 extra goals from last year. Replacing Marchessault+10. I think these are all pretty reasonable/conservative expectations, especially considering our coaching change.

It'd also be nice if we could somehow get James Neal who can put up 20-30 goals. (Had a down year last year and supposedly had a hurt wrist). Maybe a guy like Haapala/McCann/Malgin makes the team/steps up and pots some goals.

Without Marchessault we aren't as ****ed as some people would like to think.

This would be awesome too. Without knowing much about Mamin/not seeing him play, 15 seems lofty. But I won't complain.

15 seems optimistic.
For Mamin? Unless he's playing on the 4th line, I think he'll reach that easily. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he cracked 20.

Bjugstad if healthy and past his mental demons, 15 is realistic IMO, especially if his linemates stay the same for more than 5 games. I feel like the constant revolving door on his wings and has only made him look worse than what he really is.

He's definitely a wildcard at this point. Odds are he will need to spend some time in the AHL.
Having watched a half dozen games of him, I doubt it.

^Haven't seen him play but I'll take Soups word. I do know he knows how to handle himself and won't take any crap in regards to himself or teammates. :)

I don't know, that seems like a lot of ifs. Each one is reasonable in itself but what are the chances they all or happen?

About Mamin, how physical is his game in your opinion; do you think he might also add a bit of grit into our lineup?
I liked what little I saw of his highlights - he seemed fast and I liked both his shot and his passing skills; nothing fancy but it was effective.

You're right- not all of that will happen. We'd be much safer adding another source of scoring. I like Neal, SoupyFin has mentioned Marleau. Cammalleri is another guy who might be available.

But winning isn't all about goalscoring either. Add a tighter more structured system to that as well (has to be a given after last year) and that will also lead to more wins.

I fully admit I've seen none of Mamin's game, so I'm not saying I know better. But to say you've seen him in 6 games and already think he's ready for an NHL roster spot and is a lock for 15-20 goals seems like a huge leap in logic....what do you see in this guy that suggests that?

Tough to say since I saw only one or two of his regular season games, "difference between the regular season and the playoffs, everyone hits, even the stars" was a quote I saw during the NHL playoffs this year. I think Mamin got injured towards the end of their playoff run, because his ice time fell off a cliff.

So I wouldn't say he's a guy that's trying to hit people all the time, but more of that he didn't shy away from hitting when it made sense (Smith maybe the best comparable in that sense from the Panthers?). I also liked that he went to the front of the net often and didn't mind taking a beating there.

Shortly put; his hockey IQ and well rounded game. I don't see any glaring weaknesses in his play.

Sooooo....Who do you think he would mesh well with in the bottom 6?

I like the idea of Mamin - Malgin - Bjugstad. Thoughts?

A little bit of everything, Malgin the creative playmaker with two big bodies, one with a decent shot and speed and the other with skill while providing gritty garbage goals.

Jokinen - Mack - Sceviour for the 4th if JJ isn't traded or Vegas bound :sarcasm:

Malgin should be in the AHL, he's not ready yet. Mac should be playing wing because well, he isn't that effective as a center. Those are the two main takeaways.

UFA-Bjugstad-Mamin
Mac-UFA-Sceviour

Have to wait to see if there's more buyouts coming, 4C market as of now is looking pretty meh. Boyle is the current BPA, I guess.

Where's Jokinen or are you packing his bags for Vegas as well?

You still send Malgin down if he tears up camp? IF we upgrade the 3C then I agree but otherwise, I'm pulling hard for the kid to earn a 3rd line role.

Have to think McCann, Malgin and Hawryluk will push hard for a spot.

What type of UFA would work well with Bjugstad and Mamin, 2-way playmaker no?

I mean, he had a good prospect camp & training camp this past season and he still wasn't ready. He needs lots of ice time to develop further and Springfield can give him that.

McCann and Malgin both looked awkward at wing, if Bjugs is still playing center, I'm not expecting them to make the line-up. Hawryluk should be the first choice wing call-up, I guess he could potentially contend for that 3rd line spot.

UFA again, I'll wait to see who gets bought out before making top choices lists.

Money out this year or next year: Jussi, R Smith, Jagrs (one year annual $$$ ), Demers. That's a load of money off the roster moving forward. Bjugstad is name up in the air moving forward.

I'd say : Neal, Methot (or other Dman), Oshie (now), Kovy and other big names really in play now with Panthers --July UFA signings.

to be fair - Matheson, Petro, Pysyk will need raises this year or next. March and Scevior will need their spots filled or raises next year. Assuming we're keeping everyone.

Is there any info if Vanek stay in Florida or did he go to the next Team??
Giving Vanek 1 or 2 year contract cant hurt the Team. Love his Game what he brought up in the end of the Season, shining out of the most Player around him.
