Pysyk was our most stable D man last year. Guy was solid and kept his composure. Was never worried about him on the ice. Demers while providing offense was caught too many times over playing the situation. He deserves to be exposed.

I think we will see a better Yandle next season, with structure and hopefully with a better system we will see his turn overs decline and his confidence rise.

JVR could also be flipped at the trade deadline for a decent return if we're out of playoff contention and if we couldn't sign him to an extension, we could trade his rights for a pick. It's a no brainer. A player like Pysyk is easier to replace than trying to find a top line winger.

Yes pysyk was solid in his sheltered 17 minutes a night role.. something a decent rookie or free agent should be able to replace without much difficulty while adding a bit more upside and maybe something we lack... pysyk is becoming the most overrated player on our team and I'm having a hard time figuring out y.. he brings literally nothing and has very little upside

I guess seeing him live vs. seeing him on TV shows our difference of opinion.

Could be valid... I only see him 4-5 times live per year and the rest on tv but live viewing doesn't change his usage and how he struggled when his minutes went up or how his tools are very average

So if we went 4-4-1, you'd protect Demers over Pysyk?
I think that's a valid point. Demers is more physical than Pysyk and when asked to he can play a solid defensive role as both players are an 8 on shot suppression. I think Demers gets the nod over Pysyk from the Boogieman.

There are alot of teams looking for RH defencemen, so it really depends on what the offers are coming back trade wise on either guy. If nothing makes sense, then I'd be okay to expose Pysyk. :)

Sharks face key decisions over Thornton, Marleau | theScore.com

''These guys have been cornerstones of this franchise. We operate under a cap system which is different from many, many years ago when those choices maybe come into play,'' Wilson said. ''You sometimes have to make tough decisions. Make no mistake about our respect and appreciation for them will never end. Under a cap system we'll see and we'll navigate ourselves through this. We've been very fortunate to have players like this play at as a high a level as they have. How important they are to this franchise will not be forgotten. When it comes to making the hockey decisions, we have to make the decisions under this system, the cap system that makes sense.''

Thought that was an interesting quote from GM Wilson. Both players have supposedly been close to leaving so many times, that it's very much believe it when we'll see it. Marleau would be an upgrade on Jagr and we do have many things that other teams can't offer, if Sharks don't intend to re-sign him or/and Marleau wants to test UFA. First line minutes, top salary with less taxes, young core on the way up (Marleau has said, I think it was during the cup run last year, that he hasn't even thought about retiring yet, so he could potentially play say another 4 years and see our young players hit their primes) and a familiar face in coach Boughner. Other teams might be able to offer one or two of those things, but not all four.

Only problem I can think of, is that I can't recall if Marleau can play RW. He's primarily known as a LW or center. Or maybe Huberdeau could switch to the other wing? Anyway, if Marleau leaves SJ, he should be our number 1 UFA target.

Didn't someone write you have to expose Demers to qualify for the draft?
Have to expose a qualified signed player for 2017. Only 3 fit that description: Ekblad, Demers or signing Kindle. Kindle will be signed tomorrow if he will accept a reasonable deal and they have an good offer for one of Demers/Petro/Pysyk, as I doubt he has any value as a UFA in the NHL. Kindle's other options will be overseas. :)

For starters I wouldn't go 4-4-1.. but if they had to then yes... demers as much higher upside... at least he contributes to offense and if sheltered a bit more could be just fine...but i would leave them both exposed.. neither is a big loss

Yeah, Marleau would be good I think. And I like the idea of Huberdeau switching wings. I think he would a bit more dangerous offensively on the right wing.

Yep, wrote it on my Cats on the Prowl article. There’s no other way around it unless you wanna expose Ekblad which isn’t happening. As of now, has to be Demers.

I am almost sure, this sole reason means we cannot go 4-4-1 either. Salary Games Played etc. all come into play its Demers or Ekblad, but it will not be Ekblad, lol.

I'd like Marleau too- Thornton I'm a little worried about coming off of those knee injuries (torn ACL was it??) he played through in the playoffs...

I don't think re-signing Kindl is a good option

Which seems to be alright by Florida fans?

Oh I'm not even suggesting that we'd be interested in Thornton, top6 winger is a much more pressing need and Marleau fits that.

Well it is an option if they go 4/4/1 and decide to keep Demers/Ekblad/Petro/Yandle or trade Demers and keep Pysyk. They would sign him to a minimum one way contract and ship him to the AHL for the year. :)

Relax there probably won't be a deal involving Florida before expansion.. they might be trying to find another top6 forward to protect so the 7-3-1 is more useful but they will still go 7-3-1 and protect a less valuable forward.. the only way they go 4-4-1 is if they can swing a deal for another d man which is where this march rumor is proba ly stemming from.. eventually they will stand pat and go 7-3-1 kiss demers or pysyk goodbye and who gives a bakers ****.. they won't affect our season next year
