If Suzuki continues at his current pace for the remainder of the season, he's going to have to get serious consideration. He's playing in all situations and doing very well.

I keep seeing posts that are saying this but the truth is Nick Suzuki’s season is not even close to what Makar or Hughes are doing and he will not win the Calder.

Agreed, I feel the same way about Hughes.

I’m curious, do Habs fans now value Suzuki more than Kotkaniemi? Last year Kotkaniemi was hyped a lot and for good reason but now Suzuki has really taken the spotlight with JK having injury struggles.

Kotkaniemi is a year younger and a lot less NHL ready. It worked early on, but he was not ready to take on more responsibilities and his mistakes started to irritate the coaching staff. Suzuki went from playing with teenagers, to playing with men and it didn't really show. Still, Suzuki wasn't rushed the way KK was. Suzuki wasn't ready the year before and got sent down. KK played with men in Finland before joining in last season. Such different paths to the NHL...

Consideration can mean simply being a finalist. Hughes and Makar are having great seasons. In typical Montreal fashion, Suzuki was brought along slowly over the course of the first 40 games. He started at wing, and with injury was given a shot at center. I don't see him going back to wing. He's taken the role and run with it. The fact he has produced what he has while on a club where caution is never thrown to the wind and rookies are metered shouldn't be discounted. He's not just putting up points. He's showing his 200ft game that is required of centers. He has had a great year.

Olofsson, Olofsson, he’s our man, if he can’t do it we are even more f*cked.

VO is definitely up there, he is having a better year than Makar. Its a good comparison because both player's need their stats pro-rated to make a better case because of missing games from injury. VO is performing at like 37 goals 35 assist level. Thats higher than Kubalik's season thus far.

So before all-star break doesn’t count anymore?

Why you so bitter bro?

Post all star break stats have been referenced to for years. In some sense the stats show the teams or what players show up when the games really become competitive down the stretch..Stats dont mean much in the big picture, but just because you dont like what you see with your boy not being in the picture, doesnt mean you need to get snarky.

Not snarky. I just like to look at the whole picture when evaluating a players performance and production. Players go through highs and lows during a season.

yep all stats gets erased from that point.

hahah relax friend, its just a stat showing how much Hughes has turned it on since All- Star Break when the games have become playoff-level like intensity. Its not a shot at Makar.

Besides, you should like markers like All-star Breaks because Makar has played every single game since then and his numbers dont get skewed from missing time before the All Star Break.

Great Race for the Calder!

That's very impressive, crosbyesque the way he protects the puck. Hughes has similar types offensive possession plays, but he certainly doesnt protect the puck that way he relies much more on his edge work and elusiveness to create space.

That's not something I think Hughes would ever have in his game no doubt makar is a very powerful skater.

Protecting the puck is Hughes game, particularly in his own and neutral zones. Its difficult to check him as he keeps it away from forwards trying to get him to give up possession one way or the other.

It would be nice if there were a Sophomore or Junior awards.

As a Hughes fan, he may be stepping up his game for the playoff push where Makar might be running out of steam (injuries?), but I think whether or not the Canucks will make the playoffs is going to factor. And that will depend, too, on how he and the team handle the abuse he's starting to get. He's certainly getting the icetime and its been deserved.

He's got 3 points in his last 2 games and 8 points in his last 10 games? Not sure exactly how that's running out of stream.
