A Flyers mock draft five months out, because I have absolutely nothing better to do. Using current draft slots.

1(6) - LW Victor Eklund - love everything about how he plays. He plays both sides but I'm slotting him opposite of Michkov.

1(21) - C Braden Cootes - lots of speed and skill in the middle. I've had him pegged for this spot for months.

1(30) - C Eric Nilson - what stands out most about him is how quickly and smoothly he transitions both ways. I think he's very underrated.

2(38) - LW Eddie Genborg - not sure his offense projects but has put up good numbers. What I really like is how physical he is on the forecheck.

2(42) - D Maxim Agafonov - this may sound crazy, but after Schaefer and Smith, I think I might like this kid next. Good size, moves well, physical, aggressively jumps up, very good luck handler and passer. And, he's a right shot D. I don't understand how Limatov is the higher rated Russian D prospect.

2(47) - C Ethan Czata - coming on strong in his draft year. Nothing flashy, just solid all around.

2(48) - C Hayden Paupenakis - probably a reach here, but he's been putting up better numbers at Kelowna since the trade from Spokane a few weeks ago. Big kid that moves well, good at net front, and seems like he's pretty good if he needs to drop the gloves. Need one old school Flyer somewhere in this list.

Not intentional, but ended up taking lots of C's and Swedes.

Even if they miss out on the top 4 I take some solace that they should be able to get one of McQueen, Desnoyers, or Frondell. I wouldn’t mind Eklund but we are starved for centers. Though I’m not sure how likely those first 3 are true NHL centers. Maybe they would be able to grab one of O’Brien, Cootes, and that tier of centers with their 2nd pick. They have ammo and should move up if they can. They can go from piss poor center prospects to a half respectable pool at the position if things go right.

Hey @Appleyard what can you tell us about Jamiro Reber. I know he was passed over last year, but what's his overall game like now and is he worth a late round pick?

Good skater, has grit and intensity, plays at a high pace and is a creative passer.

Kind of guy where if everything goes very well probably ends up a 40-50 point winger.

He should have gone in the mid-rounds last year.

Him and Liam Danielsson were the two fwds from J20 I was kind of shocked did not get drafted.

Heck, he looked better in J20 and at international level than Jack Berglund and Linus Eriksson who both went 2nd round!

O'Brien is going to end up in the top 10. Extremely smart and creative centre with speed and decent size.

Yeah I figured as much. Tankathon has us getting McQueen and Ryabkin with our first 2 picks which id be pretty happy with if we don’t slot into the top 4. Both guys have concerns but they also have boom potential which the Flyers need. With all the picks in the first two rounds, if Briere can’t come away with at least a future core player, that would be a failure

If Danny and the Flyers select McQueen, they should be fired. There is absolutely zero reason for them to draft a guy who has played 51 games the previous year and only 8 games this year because of injury. And not just any injury, but a back injury. McQueen will have injury issues for the rest of his career and as we've all seen with back injuries, when players return from long term back injuries, they're never the same. I'm also iffy on Frondell because of his injury history. Desnoyers or O'Brien should be the pick and it shouldn't be that hard to come to a conclusion for this group.

But, but McQueen looks like Mario Lemieux out there!

Feel like McQueen would bite the Flyers either way; they draft him and he’s injury prone; pass over him and he’s a perennial 50 goal 1C who never misses a game. That’s just how life is as a Flyers fan for most of the 21st century

I’m ambivalent on McQueen in general though. I just want the player that will turn out to be the best whether it is McQueen, Desnoyers, Frondell, O’Brien, etc. I wouldn’t be upset about any of them. The Flyers shouldn’t be afraid of taking big swings though as whiffs would just mean they continue to get high picks. They just can’t turn into a middling team in purgatory

The end of the Flyers season could be ugly so hopefully the whole 2nd tier of players is a moot point as there is a decent chance they get into the top 4 IMO

You can't teach sighs to Flyers fans.

I personally have zero interest in him unless he falls to our last 1st round pick and even there I'm skeptical, those back injuries of his are no joke, frondell I wouldn't be as worried about the injuries as I would be with McQueen, I like O'brien but I'm scared to take another one of those (half joking) I truly do think we can come away with an absolute steal in the 2nd round like if picks stay the same at 48 id love ivankovic, can never have enough goalie prospects and he is damn good, however if Danny and fat boy believe they're the smartest guys in the room again and reach for guys like luchanko last year this draft is going to be awful, but im going to be hopeful for this draft, but that's as far as my leash for them will go, as it stands right now based on rankings I'd lean Jake O'Brien at #6 at #21 i go Ryabkin, at 30 i really like Wozniak although there's like 4 guys id be happy with in that spot, at 38 charlie trethewey if he's still there, 42 I like Kurban Limatov (really like his game) and obviously 48 i go ivankovic since ravensbergen will be gone probably early to mid 20's

There's a ton of guys i really like in this draft and would be happy with, but just looking at current standings and where the guys are likely to be taken, that's my current list, obviously there is a ton of time left and chances for changes to the list, but as it stands right now, id be thrilled with that outcome

This draft could go haywire after the first four picks. IDK how long Ryabkin is going to stay on the board. His play has been pretty decent since he came to Muskegon. Frondell is the guy that I'd like to see with the Flyers first selection. Sascha Boumedienne is a defenseman that I'd like to see them get with one of the other two early picks. His play at BU has greatly improved. He is a lefty but the Flyers need defensemen of either hand. He should be on the board when the later first round picks come up for selection.

Me too. There’s no reason they couldn’t have traded up to get Luchanko too. That would have easily been a win draft for Danny and co.
When the obvious thing fails to happen it's either because there was something going on of which we were unaware or something stupid went down. Right now it looks like the latter.
