Putting aside the Russian factor and how soon or far of he is to being available for NHL teams— he’s a striking package of size, strength, mobility, offence and defence.

“He’s not as offensively gifted as, say, Chris Pronger at the same age and he’s not as physically intimidating and punishing as, say, Zdeno Chara was in his draft year [1996],” one scout said. “But he has shown that he combines elements of both of those guys.”

Another scout said: “If he’s as good as we think he is — geez, I really wish we could be there in the rink to see him live instead of just on video or getting reports from our Russian scouts — he’s going to be a No. 1 defenceman, maybe in the same sort of universe as a Victor Hedman. If he’s not quite what we think he is, with that size and mobility, I still think he’ll be really good top-pairing guy or outstanding 2-3.”

Silayev’s production in the KHL this season has tailed off after he scored one goal and six points in his first six games. He has scored another two goals and five points in his past 45 games. But he’s still playing significant minutes against older KHL competition and continues to demonstrate great mobility and solid puck skills for such a big man.

Five of 10 scouts surveyed by TSN listed Silayev at No. 2 and the lowest ranking he received was a No. 6

Source: Bobby Mac mid-season ranking.

Zadorov went 16th OV... Silayev defends better than any defensemen in this draft, thats what he does better than everyone else and the most important duty of the D position, even Dickenson who still is really good at it. The offensive tools are a bit raw, but they are there and should get even better as he fills out.

I see him as a potential #1 defenseman, a general on the back-up.
Yes, he defends really well. Like Simashev last year too, probably better. I dont see the high end skill, thats the problem. I think you have to be a real gambler to look at Silayev and think "this guy has it in him to produce 50 points regularly".

I dont know if he defends better than Dickinson or even Elick, but were splitting hairs and it doesnt matter what they do right now. I have the same reservations I have with Dickinson.

I completely agree with your assessment. He's so damn good. Really impressive how he defends for his age in the KHL and how mobile he is for his size. I think his offense is underrated. He plays RD as well. I think he can be really mean as well once he gets to NA. I would not be against drafting Silayev, Dickinson or Levshunov. Silayev though has so much potential and a translatable game.

Absolutely. That top 6 with Slaf, Dach and Lindstrom would mean business. Who knows, maybe Xhekaj develops into a top 6 role as well.

But, thinking of it, I really feel anyone in that top 10 fills a need for this team. We still need a RHD like Levshunov, as I'm not as high on Mailloux/Barron as some. We still a clear number 1 D like Dickinson/Silayev could be. We still need skill like Catton and top 6 scorers like Iginla/Demidov/Lindstrom. I just named 7 players meaning we’re pretty much guaranteed to get one of them. We're in a really good position this year.
That’s a dog’s breakfast of needs and I’m not sure those are as glaring as adding a C with size.

Assuming all things being similar after Celebrini and given how the org. has multiple weaknesses in terms of forwards, size and top 6 high upside Cs and how scoring is the most prized skill, Lindstrom combines all of those elements.

Just look at how the team cratered at center after Dach went down and how there was no one with similar upside available to fill his spot from within.

I am of course assuming that Lindstrom is within a tier of similarly ranked prospects in the 5-6th drafting slot.

Then why is Catton perceived as small when he is basically the same height and actually destroyed Iginla in a fight?
All I stated was that Iginla is a 17 year old six footer. I wasn't aware of this was a conversation about Catton.
But hell by all means let's draft Catton because he beat Iginla in a fight.

The St.Louis Blues are really really proud to select in USHL... Sacha Boisvert!

"This guy is a talented shooting first C, drafting a young player need also a good development and we believe that with a good development, Boisvert will reach his full potential. All scouts in this room see top 6 C potential in him. I see that aswell, it's a perfect fit for the team".

"We have made a top 16 list and he is just in that spot, so we are all happy to draft a player who he is high in the list that all scouts work very hard all year long"

"We drafted based on talent, competitiveness and potential. Boisvert is exactly that type of prospect we wanted. He is talented, with high potential. We like his competitiveness. He just need to work on being more complete player, but he is only a 18 years old player, we have good staff to work with him and become a two-way, playmaking and shooting C we want to see in him. He is already a great shooter".

Your turn @WeThreeKings !

He's 17, listed 6' 186lbs. Ignila going to play around 6'1 205lbs. He's one of youngest players in draft. His father was 6'1 210lbs. Roughly same size.

If you have choice between small skill and big skill, take the big.

Then why not pick Lindstrom before Iginla ? He's wayyy bigger.

With the 17th pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, the San Jose Sharks select, from the Allsvenskan league, Winger, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard!

"Brandsegg-Nygard is one of the most pro-ready players in the draft. While I am using the San Jose Picks, I'm picking players I want so no defenseman for you. MBN brings a relentless forecheck and physical game on top of great speed, good hands and a blistering shot. He can play on any line, in any situation, and give 110% effort. He may be the perfect compliment to Will Smith or William Eklund who could benefit from his pressure, puck retrieval, puck protection and finishing game."

With the 18th selection in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, the NYI are proud to select, from TPS in the Liiga, F Emil Hemming.
Emil Hemming - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

Big sniper who doesn't mind the rough stuff, consistency is the issue in his case, cause the potential is there to be an impact top-6 Forward. Also, one of the youngest players in the draft, still a lot of room to grow.

(sorry for the delay, I'm on night shift and kinda fell asleep on the couch after I saw it was my turn)

@Kobe Armstrong is next and will be PMed

Again. You are (intentionally) miscontruing my argument. If Iginla is "big", then how is Catton small if his measurements are extremely similar?

That's a really nice pick at 15. Good fit in Philadelphia for sure.
Agreed. I'm betting Yakemchuk will get far more love on NHL draft lists than he's getting on public lists and this forum. Massive season in the Dub. I think he'll go ahead of several of the forwards we've been debating about as potential Habs picks.

2nd Round is up. I made 2 rulings. They are:

2nd Round

1. In the 3 team trade that sent Provorov to Columbus, the Blue Jackets were given the decision to send their 2024 or 2025 2nd round pick to Philadelphia. The decision doesn't have to be made until after round one of the 2024 draft. Most teams prefer delaying to next year when it's a high pick in hopes that they'll be better the following year giving up a worse pick. Columbus will keep their 2nd round pick in 2024 for this draft.

2. In the Meier trade, NJD needed to make the Conference Finals in 2023 or 2024 for their 2024 2nd round pick to upgrade to a 1st round pick for SJS. NJD didn’t do that in 2023, and although they are not officially eliminated, they are not in a playoff position for this draft, so San Jose is given NJD 2nd round pick.
