Maatta isn't chopped liver. That trade worked out very nicely.

Bill also traded for two top pair D last summer. Not sure how many top pair D you want him to trade for in a single year. I personally think he's done enough.
I agree. I think he has played very well and wouldn’t mind seeing him extended.

Why do I feel like UTAH will be the hottest team to miss the playoffs?
I'm disappointed that they didn't improve the D instead of wasting most of the season with an inferior D!
They turn things around and play incredible … then bad lazy habits start to form , AT doesn’t address because . Hey .. they are still winning.. then they lose , but it’s ok because the effort was still there, and they tried hard …. They were winning up until the last few minutes, but one mistake cost them a goal… then they lose in OT.. but hey we got a point .. it’s ok.

Next thing you know , we lose the ability to pass accurately and shoot and we have a real mess on our hands , and lose 3 in a row ..erasing what we earned after winning 4.

AT , get things turned around… rinse and repeat..

My opinion: AT doesn’t have that high of a standard … he gets them all playing great ..then pulls back .. he needs to be consistent with them and raise the bar, don’t be happy with just a win … if players can’t pass , hold them accountable..
Because when we can pass accurately and shoot, other teams rarely have an answer to defend , because we do it in all zones

One thing I noticed with the Pitts game , is Pitts were older, slower , but they were nailing their passes, making at least 4 in a row ..causing all sorts of havoc …UHC, barely connected at all , leaving us one and done in the O zone , except on the one PP.

I have no doubt that they will turn this around, an$ we will all love thi# team …but good teams are consistent….win 4 lose one , win 4 lose one …. We win 4 , lose 4 etc.

With the injuries on D I think BA did a pretty good job in getting replacements for those. I think our D is pretty good right now, and will get better once Durzi gets back. Still need a big stay at home D that can hit, but our D when healthy, is much better than last year. Our GA is 15th, or GF is 25th. We can't score. Having too many having a down year up front.

Because it's just like this franchise to go on a late-season tear despite not really being in the hunt, in order to give us false hope for the following season.

We have been hampered with Durzi/Marino missing so many games for sure. Sergi is a 2D, Marino is a 3/4D, both not top pairing.

...and yet at this time last year the 'Yotes were at approximately the same standing as this year. No progress! I don't see how you can justify that. 2 35yos, a waiver pick up, and Valimaki and Kolyachonok... GMBA should have improved some of those positions.

Ok, If he did, why bench him and not Crouse, if you want to send a message?

I swear this team has been cursed with injuries. Durzi/Marino being out most of the year is rough. You can see the value Marino brings with that poke check against pitt that stopped a grade A scoring chance. He's been so steady since coming back.

No Guenther is brutal. Now Cooley is out...we just can't catch a break.

I actually think if the team was healthy, our D would be great....we just haven't been able to have everyone play which sucks.

You didn't ask me but I would say not necessarily, sometimes it's a lower D playing with the Stud to make better pairings. Ex: I think Van are currently playing Myers with Hughes, I don't think Myers is a 2D.
You're confusing deployment with ability.
We all agree that Sergachev is a 1D by deployment. He's top 5 in the league in TOI. But that's a separate matter.

Durzi and Marino are both great on transition defense to offense. Without them for a substantial amount of time the team has had to transition the puck in primarily through forwards coming back. Might be the case that once they're back, we start getting more long stretch passes leading into more odd-man rushes and goals. A bump in scoring there might place them more solidly up the standings of team scoring metrics, and creating more offense also means you're not playing defense, so could cascade the goals against downward as well.

Maatta is great! Where he crapped the bed was when he knew we lost 2 of our top 3 defence and didn't get rentals. Sergi played great but we came close to burning him out risking another significant injury. We needed Rentals or a player like Carrier so badly. Fowler the list can go on. Very poor asset management. I believe to he injury to gunner is because of the lack of defence.

I just want him to be held accountable and asked why he chosen next man up when he new we didn't have a next man up. Developmentally we may have delay Mav by putting him in a situation he was not ready for yet.

Guenther injury caused by lack of D acquisitions?

MavLam development delays?

These takes are absurd.
For months our team was playing way over there head and certain players were playing too much time. MavLam was thrown to the wolfs. What happened to over cooking or prospects. He was hurt because he wasn't physically ready for that much ice time in the NHL and towards the end he was getting bad a sloppy center ice passes.

Gunner, like many of the stars add Cooley to the list is because they were being over worked. They were trying to do too much by having to cover for our weak d. Yes we are starting to get bodies back but we wrote off yet another year.

Sergachev is absolutely a top pairing guy. And Marino could be the perfect compliment to his game. Time will tell.

I said in the thread earleier, this team could have a top 10 D next year:

Sergachev - Marino
Simashev - Durzi
Valimaki - Kesselring
Cole/Maata - Lamouruex

That is a pretty stacked group.

16:07 ATOI is roughly a 5D deployment.
Looked to me like he was ready for the opportunity and continued to earn it.

At the end of the year, BA can use injuries to key players as one of the reasons or the reason the season was not successful. Durzi/Marino/Cooley/Gunts missing significant time. I think this is (partially) true.

I also think there are bigger problems under the surface with roster construction and our coach getting the team to a consistent level, last nights loss was just another example. BA/Bear talk to the media like everything is going great, as fans we all know it isn't true, this couldn't have been the bogie for this year or year 5 of BAs tenure. Why not say "we aren't happy with where we are and we expected to be better", at least own it.

You always run the risk of hampering development by pushing Mav or Sim up too quickly. In my opinion, that is what happened with Provorov, they should have let him cook longer so he could work on the weak spots in his game, he hasn't turned out as well as he could have. I would be very careful with Mav and Sim, they might need to cook for another year or two before they will be effective and maximized their abilities at the pro level. Top 4D and top 2Cs take longer to develop and learn the game, that is why they are so hard to come by. Wingers have an easier time, which is why we have seen a bunch of young wingers shine over the years, its easier for them to transition, they have way less responsibility.

I disagree. How can you say Utah has been playing over their head? I don't believe either Gunner or Cooley have been over worked. That is one thing AT watches very closely is TOI, for the forwards at least. I do believe Sergy was logging too much TOI.

I don't like using injuries as an excuse, all teams have them over the course of the year. As of today, I thought this team would be better, but I'm going to wait until the end of the season to see how Utah finishes up. It will be interesting to see what BA and AT say at the end of the year.

Every player develops at a different time, and some high end draft players never make it in the NHL, or don't make the expectations set out for them. Other who draft later in the first round can develop faster and be better, you just never know, but one thing for sure is that players who get drafted after the first round have a less chance of making the NHL, that is why I would rather trade for a proven player than have a high draft pick every year.

Why do you say that? Simashev hasn't played one game in the NHL, Valimaki wouldn't be top six on a playoff team with his play this year. I think out of that group Utah should have a pretty solid top 4, but not sure if I would say top 10 nex year.
