Going to be a lot of money thrown around July 1. Cap is going way up and Evans having good season. He could hit jackpot

He won't get more than what Monahan just got. When Monahan signed his deal, All GM's knew the cap would be $92M for next season. Monahan got 5x $5.5M. Evans could get 5 years but more like $4M ish.

I prefer 3x $4-$4.5M max. He can sign another deal at age 32 taking him to age 35 and the cap will be $100M+ by then. Could get even more money.

Not sure if Hughes is a fan of deferred money but it might be something we consider with Evans. 6x $3M with and extra $9M paid when he is age 40-44.

This would be the best deal for both Evans and the Habs.

6x $3M and $9M paid as deferred money from age 40-44.

Unless is demand are outlandish, I feel we can get it done either you overpay on a 3 year deal like 4-4.5M$ (basically replace Dvorak) or underpay on a 6 year 2.5-3M$ deal. Ideally your paying for what will bring not what he did…
I rather overpay on a shorter deal because I rather not pay or have a FW on the book past 32yo, +we have Beck, Kapanen, Roy, Hage + a bunch of pick, we want to secure that spot short term but we don’t want to block them long term.

3 years is ideal. I agree.

3.75 for 4 years. Doubles his salary effectively and gives him some stability. He’s well liked by his teammates and has been extremely effective in his role this year, although this season has definitely been an outlier.

I think it’s a fair deal for both sides. Habs get their man for a slightly lower AAV than he would get on the open market while Evans gets his raise and gives up a bit for an extra year. Both sides walk away happy.

Evan Rodrigues contract could be a good reference. Signed in 2023 at 29 going into 30 a 3M$ * 4.

At the time cap hit was 83.5, so 3.59% of cap.

3.59% of projected 92.4 is 3.3. Give him a little more cash and term because he is 1 year younger, I say give him 3.5 * 5 years.

17.5 M$ over 5 would be my offer

How does deferred money affect the cap? I see it is catching in in baseball

Pierre is insane lol 6-7 years for Jake Evans , I understand Lapierre agreeing with him because Lapierre was a bottom 6 player of course he's gonna want Evans to get term.

Pierre is just super biased about Jake because he followed him so much before he made the habs. 7 years is actually completely insane lol

I'd do the opposite. I'd overpay for 3 years (29-30-31) which would match the end of Demidov ELC. In 3 years we'll have to pay both Hutson and Demidov i'd rather not have any bottom 6 secured past that point outside of young players easy to move.
Exactly this is what I would do , Hell I would overpay him alot if he took a 2 year deal like I'd even go around 5, he won't do that though

Max is 4m for me. That kind of money would bring a hell of good 4th line center in UFA. Would you rather have Evans or a Trent Frederick type? Give you size, 20 goals, physical player.

If he scores tonight......

Fools gold with Evans - trade him to the highest bidder.

Decent bottom 6 player who’s having a career year but playing over his head .The Habs shouldn’t fall into that trap just like they did with Armia four years ago when he had that nice little run in the playoffs and everyone got all excited

I also agree that 3 years is ideal, but not if you are overpaying for it. It sets up a bad precedent, IMO.

Keep in mind that adding one, two or three years to keep the Cap figure down to 3M, makes a buyout worth little impact on the Cap that has reached 113M within the next three years.

3M times 2, divided by three split in half for two years on a 1-year buyout = 1M or minimum wage per season times two. .88 of a percent, not even 1 percent of your total Cap.

Let's agree that, if you think that a 3-year deal is best, you are only keeping Evans to stabilize the C-line with an added depth veteran that will play in the bottom-6. You are looking to create a more stable (not necessarily better overall) environment to keep progressing as a team.

It's not like you are signing Evans short term to provide a stop-gap 2nd line C that can build confidence for and help develop Demidov and Slafkovsky, or some other winger that gets the call in the top-6.

I believe in the value keeping depth players to help develop a team as a whole, but Evans is clearly being over-evaluated if we are willing to overpay for a temporary depth solution.

I really think that overpayment money -- if overpayment there is -- would be better spent on a veteran C that will be willing to play 3rd line C shorter term, but also has the ability to step up and add something offensively if Dach fails as a 2C project.

Evans does not meet this profile as a C and we should not be overspending for him.

At 28 right now, 29 at the start of his next contract, I'd rather gamble on Evans still being solid as a 4th line C up to 34 years of age on a cheaper 6-year contract if keeping him shorter term means overpaying needlessly.

What we would need todo is find a 2C and a 3C, from within or from outside the system. Worrying about making room for Kapanen, Beck or Hage as 4th line Cs shouldn't be a concern in the least since any of those players could also play wing.

By the time the 6th year of Evans' next contract comes up, a 3M Cap hit would be worth 2.65% of the total Cap if it remained at 113M and he could even become the 13th forward at that point.

With the Cap likely still rising from its 113M ceiling after the 2027-2028 season, the percentage of the total Cap for Evans' contract should become lower than 2.65%.

I think the deal Dakota Joshua signed last summer after a career year would be close to a max for Evans. That was 3.25x4. Maybe 3.5x4 is the absolute max for me.

Trade him!! We are lucky that his value is at peak level at the right time. Same thing with Yo-Elle. The rebuild is not done and we need to cash in on this golden opportunity that came out of nowhere.

3,5m$*4 is the perfect deal to me. The cap is going way up . He’s worth it , it’s the max I would go.

Armia, Savard and Dvorak I would trade them all at TDL .solidifies the rebuild with whatever we get for them, and they don’t play with pace and speed.

I want a team that plays with speed and pace ; Evans fits .

What about a Miles Wood type contract, 2.5x6? Wood actually took a paycut in terms of caphit but in return got those 6 years which means more total $ value of the contract. He very likely could have gotten 3m+ on shorter term deal, but gave up caphit for term. If we could do something like 2.75x6 for Evans I think I'd prefer that to 3.25x4, sure we probably don't need/want Evans for those extra years but when the times come that we don't need him, it's a low enough salary that we can still easily trade him.

4 x 3….Max.
Let’s not get carried away folks.
Love him but Will probably never reach these point totals again his 30s are around the corner.
