So what is wrong with the team? Is it just the injuries on D? Ingram and the team in front of Ingram have not faired well.

We still really need a 1C. But what else?

If Marino and Durzi come back to 100%, we would only have 3 out of the top 4 on defense.
And to put it into a proper perspective the "1C" is who can keep up with Keller and Schmaltz and play a good 2 way game. I'm still hoping that a more mature Doan can eventually play in that role. Hayden only seems as a make-do at the moment.
I thought Lindholm would have been great at that role, but the Bruins offered him slightly more money and a longer term than I thought he deserved.

Interesting take on Hayton and not saying you’re wrong by any means, but Bugs has centered line 1 for the last two games and while the team has been better off (more balance defensively) in that small sample size., Keller / Schmaltz have not been better off, imo.

Still rebuilding and learning. I believe Buffalo, Ottawa, and Detroit started their rebuild a year or two ahead of Utah and we are right there with them in pts. Montreal, Columbus and Utah started same time and we are ahead of them in pts. I know it's only pts., but the NHL is all about winning, and the way it looks we are right where we should be. We as fans always want more, as we should, but maybe we are getting that more without realizing it. Rebuilding is slow and painful. Let's see how this year unfolds.

What is AT suppose to do, wait? Schmaltz and Keller no goals in their last six games. Hayton one assist last six games, same as Schmaltz, and Keller three assists. Bugs has two goals and two assists in the last six. Not having that 1C is still haunting Utah.

Pretty sure its for D reasons, the Crouse/Hayton/Kerfoot line will get the toughest assignments.
I don't think it has anything to do with "D reasons," rather trying to get Schmaltz and Keller going. Utah's GF has dried up. We are 27th in GF's at the moment.

This is all I could find. Acknowledges BOS has contacted UHC but its just speculation on who Utah might be willing to trade.

MSN

"However, if they continue to struggle and end up selling, Nick Schmaltz and Lawson Crouse could be interesting targets to consider pursuing. They also have pending unrestricted free agents (UFA) like Nick Bjugstad, Alex Kerfoot, and Michael Carcone."

That feeds right into my point, they are less productive when separated, but the team as a whole is currently more balanced.

I think it has everything to do with D reasons. Keller/Schmaltz both had more points with Hayton.... as did Hayton. D first (always) Jakey my boy.... unless winning isn't the objective.

We are 22nd in GF and 23rd in GA. With a 3.29 GA, we aren't going anywhere. As the season moves along, it gets harder to score goals. Team D is our number one problem, has ben the last few years. We won't be averaging 4 goals a game any time soon in order to win consistently.

The good news is that team D can be improved through system play and coaching, time for Bear to figure it out.......

I agree D first, but if we don't score we don't win anything. Keller and Schmaltz have to get going again after their hot start.

As of today, we are 27th in GF, but we should move up a few spots because we have games in hand. GF is not good enough. GA we are 20th., but should get worse as we have games in hand. Both are terrible, yet here we are still on the wild card bubble but starting to lose ground. We are 2nd in GVA,s and 26th in TKA, again both not good. We are 29th. in shots PG. I think our biggest problem is our penalties as we stand 2nd. overall, but our PK is 25th. IF we can cut down on our penalties everything else should start to fall into line. We can't be a bubble team taking the 2nd. most penalties.

Jakey, I just checked again, we are 22nd and 23rd, like I said, not sure what you are looking at. Penalties/GVA/TKA are all a reflection of poor team D, being behind the play. They take penalties not because they are stupid but because they are behind the play and somebody has a step on them.

Team D is our major problem, Bear needs to fix it, he hasn't so far last few years, fingers crossed he can solve it....

I disagree with your take.

That's fine, it's your opinions and I understand it as Schmaltz works well with Keller, but Strome is a C not a small soft winger who gets hurt every year. Both have there warts for sure. Not saying I would pick Strome over Schmaltz, but it would require a long look at how Strome's game is currently.
As it turns out, Strome has good production when he plays on a line with Kane or now OVI, who would have thought:)

I disagree with your take.
Tonight game in first 2 periods is a great example of what I am saying, just saying.....
