BA said "“50% of a Stanley Cup team is traded for, so you've got to go out there and make adjustments and really add into what your club needs.”

This is music to my ears. I know he's waiting for his Russian wonderkins to show up but let's keep this ball rolling. Playoffs/ Hunt this year is mandatory!
Size and this physicality is lacking.

I hope we don't see a panick trade.

If Bortuzzo is back soon and Marino is back not long after that, then we'll scrape through.

I'd love to see Soderstrom get an emergency recall though.

No contract!

If we go with a trade, I like to see a decent shut down D. I wouldn't mind Savard if the price is cheap enough, if the Habs want to move him, think their prospects are ready, and want the cap relief.

Nope. Give Toronto our lowest 2nd from 2026. That seems fair.
I'd offer a 3rd and let the offer sit out there. The buds need cap space and Lilly looks like he's overpaid atm.

Edit: His salary is only a mil this year assuming the signing bonus is paid. Might even be able to flip him if things work out reasonably well.

It is funny how Edmonton gave him away and he's better than half of their D core right now.

Personally fine with any move that doesn't cost serious assets if it results in someone to placehold so that guys who we need developing are able to play their proper roles.

If they find a good long-term piece that's a different story. So many promising defensive prospects are a season or two out though, so I'd be hesitant to get into the trading ammo when it's a bit of an unknown still what the team is going to be lacking in the coming years.

If we can get Jiricek for Schmaltz and and 2nds absolutely, but I would also have said that before Durzi's injury and the Marino news. Assuming that deal isn't on the table because it seems way too light from our side I'm cool with a stop gap or just calling up Koch

I don't really agree with trading Schmaltz away, but that's beside the point. He's 28, his contract ends after next season, and he's got synergy with Keller that may not manifest elsewhere to the same degree.

For Columbus, it's the wrong value to pursue. They aren't going to be competitive this season and just need to stock up on high end prospects. They're riddled with injuries. Schmaltz would be good for them as he's great at zone entry which they struggled with in the Gaudreau game which I watched. They have a few bright spots, but it was mostly like watching the Coyotes from a few years ago where the talent level just wasn't there and you knew they had to just shoot it because that extra pass wouldn't connect even if doing so would lead to a much higher chance play. They had to do a lot of dump and chase.

It would take more as you noted too. They'll probably just stop gap this season or maybe Smith is good to front the cash to make a signing of one of those old guys who are still UFAs. If he does that, I think bodes well for future spending as he's clearly willing to spend a few million to allow Armstrong to let young guys get the ideal development environment.
