I’m gonna hate this guy, aren’t I?

It's the messaging and evaluating, at which the Fletcher administration is consistently bad. If you think he's an elite shoot first center prospect to build your organization around, you might get eye strain from the rolling of your eyeballs. He's not even really a power forward; how often do you see him holding pucks on walls? If you think he's a good complimentary wing prospect, there's no reason to outright dislike him. There are good things there! A big issue is the Flyers disintegrating their jorts to what he does well (shot go boom) to the point they neglect or deemphasize stuff that could make him more well-rounded or hit his potential: his puck handling in space/traffic, passing more, creating entries with him, more PP creativity.

Sounds a lot like the ~10th best prospect in the draft. Luckily we capitalized early on and snagged him

If he ends up the 10th best player in that class with its insanely large hard to differentiate top tier, that sounds pretty best case honestly. I wouldn't really complain. I'm skeptical he finishes the 5th best, but I do think he looks better than 20-25th, like Scouching had him. His analytical profile wasn't great, and he shoots too much from low % areas, but Scouching compared him to Chaz Lucius, and he is way way more athletic, and his production so far is better than we probably thought. I just think his development plan will be annoying to witness because there is an interesting player in there, cutting the crap.

There was more to like there with Gauthier’s game than there was with Cooley. Had a few nice scoring chances. Showed the ability to drive the net. For a shoot first guy, he made some nice passes in tight areas. His play off of the puck was good. He didn’t take any face offs so we didn’t see if he has skills there. Then again, Cooley wasn’t an ace on the dots either.

I just mean that type of player.

My patience for the “shoot first” type is absolutely zero. Every time someone says “there’s no such thing as a bad shot” or “just get pucks on net” I want to strangle them.

I don't understand how Jiricek has 20 points in 19 AHL games, honestly. He's a good prospect, but nothing about him screams high end offensive tools.

I don't disagree, but the issue is more with a "one dimensional shooter" than "shoot first." I do think Gauthier has plus shooting, but more importantly, other skills to manufacture shot opportunities. He's at worst, I'd say, a competent passer. His raw skill-set is not one dimensional, or lacking tools. Again, I'm laughing at the label of "shoot first center," which shows a scary lack of understanding of the position. I just assume at this point that Flyers prospects won't hit developmental ceilings.
