These takes on Cutter are going to be funny to read in a few years.... kid is going to be good....he moves and skates like a C with the puck through the neutral zone..... Defensive play and Face offs are skills that can be developed so by no means can someone post he's not a Center....argue more likely to be a winger is fine to argue but kid could be a C with proper development (which the Flyers often don't provide but that's besides the point lol )

I get why they do it (money) but I like it better when the tournament is in smaller towns with junior sized arenas opposed to bigger cities with pro arenas. The building is pretty much full for most of the games in the former.
Yup. Much better atmosphere. Population of Halifax Municipality is approximately 450,000 so plenty of people to support these types of events. They mentioned it on TSN broadcast but the big difference vs big cities is that this event is embraced by the community. People know it's a big deal to get this and we love our hockey....as seen with Mooseheads support. A big city has so many big events all the time, it's just seen as another one. They said average attendance for all games was over 7000.

Glad we had good weather too. It ranged in temps from 19-53 F......-7 to +12C....so it showed visitors a wide range of temps and it wasn't freezing cold the whole time. No snow except a light dusting 2 days ago but last night there was freezing rain no people are waking up to that.

I was able to sell approx 100 extra Team C hats/toques to locals on FB Marketplace so
I welcome the return of the WJC. It won't be another 20 years till Hfx gets another one like this time, I would say it returns within 10 years. But hopefully they go to other smaller cities and continue to get the proper support. It was a great tourney even if scripted...lol.

Gauthier is going to be a good player. It was never about whether he was good or not. It was about falling in love with a single player (and projecting a "Big Two-way Center" at that) and not leveraging the value of a 5th overall pick. Tbf, I did not see an obvious 5th overall talent on the board, but there had to have been trade options on the table. I doubt very much there were not teams trying to get up for Jiricek.

Understanding he was playing wing in this tournament, but between the games at BC I've seen this year where he plays in the middle, I don't see a true center here. He's a good puck carrier so being in the middle of the ice more often is nice, but you don't need to be exclusively a center to carry the puck in that area of the ice. A shoot first center, is just not really a thing in the NHL. The basic definition of a center is a skater who elevates the play of his linemates. In this tournament he had 3x as many shots as shot assists. Hard to elevate their play when you don't play off of them. Off puck in the DZ, he often looks disengaged. Floating, flat footed, reactionary. Prefers the perimeter. Faceoffs are down on my list of importance, but he's 44% this year at BC.

Won't matter though. He will be a center in the NHL whether it's his best position or not.

How many points would he score at this tournament two years from now?

If you didn't see a top 5 player, what makes you think anyone else did?
Trades in real life aren't like EA Hockey, takes two to tango.

Gauthier is actually a good fit for Torts, Jiricek would be also.
Let's check back in three years, Jiricek might be the better player, or another Provorov who matured early but with limited upside.

I think it was @Curufinwe that said this the other day...the Flyers are going to dick Gauthier around positionally the same way they did with Schenn. I can see it now.

Hayes played RW in New York for a while.
Even if Gauthier ends up at wing, it's good for him to play center, b/c injuries happen.
