This certainly isn’t perfect exercise with the CHL team having access to the top late birthdays and the US only sending the 07s but it’s been fun. Would be a really good game if this was a better birth year for the program

"Hey let's do a prospects game. USA vs Canada."
"Great Idea. should we open it up to the entire american pool?"
"No. The NTDP will be just fine."
"But what if the NTDP has a weak class?"
"A what?"
Problem is there’s no way you can pull guys like Hagens and Hensler from their collegiate teams to play in this

At least open it up to the entire USHL.

Imagine if we'd had like, Bedard and Benson vs Smith and Leonard in 2023. That would have been extremely fun.

I think at this point Schaefer going #1 would no longer be looked at as “well they need a defenseman” pick. It would just be..yeah…he can be our Drew Doughty cornerstone for the next 15 years…

He’s got everything you want. Skill set alone he should be in the #1 convo. And it’s not just the end to end rushes, it’s putting it all out there on an PK without a stick/glove and blocking a shot. And the best part is, his maturity and leadership is probably even better.

We might need to start having the “is Matt Schaefer the best (on draft day) blueline prospect since…”

Schaefer obviously looks on another level but I really like this CHL D group overall. There's some forwards popping as well but it seems like the D are really controlling the game for the Canadian side

It’s just a great CHL group period. The CHL leagues are going to dominate this first two rounds of this draft, with a strong Swedish class mixed in.

NTDP has gotten dominated the entire game, not surprised they're frustrated.
lot of scouts think and myself included believe this extremely weak ntdp group but Button and other lazy scouts will assume 2-3 first rounders - bunch of second rounders with really no logic

Watching this and I'm missing not being able to go to OHL games right now. So much talent coming out of there this year.

Am I the only one who is not quite invested in this so much as some sort of Canada vs USA “measuring stick” and rather just enjoying a bunch of 2025 prospects on the ice together?

Or am I just coping as an American?
