Timmins is great offensively, all those assists were well earned, sees the ice very well, makes crisp quick ups. I loved his game, but he really hit a wall defensively last year, there were a few games before he was benched that were pretty bad in our end. I hope we don’t lose him, our D depth is bad and I have hope he can become a regular. Does he really look bigger at camp, haven’t seen him yet?

Apparently he bulked up and gained 21 lbs this off-season, so I’d hope so. I’d be shocked if he added that as bad weight when he’s arguably never been so close to potentially becoming a regular NHL player

I think in what could be somewhat of a make or break year for him... at least in terms of being the 7th d on the Leafs... its definitely muscle he's put on. 20 pounds of it who knows.

I think sometimes the height and weight stuff in camp gets exaggerated.

There was one guy that apparently lost an inch in height this year so lol

He added a ton of weight according to what the team put out for all the players.
Wasn't that from last camp to this camp? I think people were reading that chart wrong that went around a few days ago.

I doubt that was all off season.

Is one of those tired narratives that the Leafs spend too much cap on too few players all forwards and as a result can't generate enough offense from the supporting cast to win in the playoffs thus making them less Cup competitive? :wg:

Lets :crossfing hope players like Bertuzzi, Domi, Knies and Klingberg can overcome that self inflicted poor salary cap management issue and do it this year because when Matthews, Nylander and Marner new raises all kick in the situation will get worse rather then better.

Top four scored ONE goal 5v5 in that series... that's your issue. We know via common sense alone the solution is not to pay those top 4 even more $$ and use up even more cap space in hopes they score more by making more. Going to be a tough sledding for another couple years,
I keep seeing that "top four scored one goal 5v5", but NHL.com says otherwise. According to them, Marner's goal in game 4 and Nylander's goal in game 5h were both 5v5. What am I missing?

You could also say that the three highest paid Leafs each produced one 5v5 point in that series. (Lafferty, Kampf, and Nylander the only forwards with 2).

You are correct indeed. That's two goals 5v5 in five games.

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Jarnkrok
Knies-Tavares-Marner
Domi-Nylander- Lafferty
Gregor-Kampf-Reaves

That's my ideal starting lineup for this season. Ideally you improve on Lafferty for your 3rd line but with Domi and Nylander not being the greatest defensive players, you'll need a solid defensive player that can pitch in with some offense as well.

Hard to seperate Marner from Matthews but this gives us the perfect blend of balance I agree. Tavares needs Marner.

I am not sure about that 4th line but the top 9 is *chefs kiss*

Just from a purely skillset angle, he could possibly work well on a line with Knies and Tavares.

Neither of those two guys are the fastest skaters so pairing them with someone with great speed that's willing to forecheck, win races to loose pucks and do alot of the greasy things would make sense.

One of the cool aspects of line creation is that it isn't always about sticking the highest rated player in a certain spot but moreso finding someone that's strengths mesh well with the other two linemates weaknessses.

BERTUZZI - MATTHEWS - MARNER
DOMI - NYLANDER - JARNKROK
KNIES - TAVARES - LAFFERTY
HOLMBERG - KAMPF - REAVES

RIELLY - BRODIE
MCCABE - KLINGBERG
GIORDANO - LILJEGREN

That is a very good and balanced team,
If we are committed to keeping Nylander at C, then these are the exact lines I was hoping we go with. That Tavares line could be really good at wearing down the other team's D and just keeping a heavy cycle going, he would probably put up less points but I could see JT being an overall better player in that kind of role.

You can add good weight and it still be a bad thing, 21 lbs is a lot to add over a short period, if you are just adding bulk, you may gain strength but lose mobility, the list is very long of athletes who gain mass quickly, only to injure themselves quickly too.

That is one very good cherry picking dont know your goalies first name gonna give up a lot and get a lot of chances team.

I'll say one thing this team wont be boring.

Alright, alright...hear me out

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Marner
Domi-Nylander-Jarnkrok
Knies-Tavares-Robertson
Lafferty-Kampf-Reaves
I *like* the idea of that 2nd line, but suspect it will be too weak defensively to actually run consistently. I don't see Robertson as an NHL player unfortunately. I've seen him live and I just don't think he'll cut it.

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Nylander
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Marner
Knies - Domi - Lafferty
Holmberg - Kampf - McMann

Above is what I'd like to see, but will not happen. Two versatile, 1st line calibre lines in the top-six. A sheltered scoring 3rd line with some jam. And a 4th line that can play some defensive zone starts responsibly and then get off the ice.

I hated the Reaves signing before and we can see it now. He has no utility other than gooning it up, so inserting him on any line instantly makes it nearly useless.
