I have to think the Leafs, given they have all his medical info, would never have extended him at 13.25M if there was that kind of immediate concern. Longevity maybe

Actually he’s up 21 lbs
Regarding we have to accept the Leafs have info....excuse me for being skeptical...56 yrs of money making...0 cups

Sure, let's come out and tell the league that our #1 player is playing with a nagging wrist injury. I'm sure the opposing players are going to ignore that and not slash and whack his wrist every chance they can. Brilliant thinking
Off season...ever heard if that. Speaking of brilliance

The highest goalscorer in the league since he entered doesn’t just forget how to shoot. The team never acknowledged it but it could not have been clearer
Yes it can be clearer

Looks like we may see a new PP configuration experimented with in the pre-season

Matthews in the Draisatl spot

Would be pretty insane for our depth.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Bertuzzi, Domi, Knies, Robertson, Jarnkrok, Lafferty

That’s potentially a LOT of offense

If Tre is able to get a real good add on D.. Like how Muzzin was or Ekholm for EDM last season this team is somehow even more stacked than ever. We would have a legit cup champ

Lafferty in the top six is definitely a surprise but let’s not act like he’s some mega scrublord. He’s similar to Kerfoot but with more pugnacity.

Just from a purely skillset angle, he could possibly work well on a line with Knies and Tavares.

Neither of those two guys are the fastest skaters so pairing them with someone with great speed that's willing to forecheck, win races to loose pucks and do alot of the greasy things would make sense.

One of the cool aspects of line creation is that it isn't always about sticking the highest rated player in a certain spot but moreso finding someone that's strengths mesh well with the other two linemates weaknessses.

BERTUZZI - MATTHEWS - MARNER
DOMI - NYLANDER - JARNKROK
KNIES - TAVARES - LAFFERTY
HOLMBERG - KAMPF - REAVES

RIELLY - BRODIE
MCCABE - KLINGBERG
GIORDANO - LILJEGREN

That is a very good and balanced team,

Not saying he's not a decent player but he's nowhere near an 11 million dollar player anymore and it's debatable he ever was. We need the majority of that money to allocate to improving our defense.

No one was ever any under illusions that he was going to be an $11m player by the end of his contract.

But if the "bad years" of the contract are him being a ~30 goal, p/gp player, who is slightly sheltered at 5v5, that's still better than what a lot of people expected.

Is Klingberg gonna be the #1 pp option?
I think they should tinker with that in pre season. They have way more options on the powerplay by adding klingberg.
Like seeing Cowen at 5'11 and 185lbs. Not to far off the same size as a guy like Blake Coleman.
Can he fight? Just curious don't know... it'd be nice to have a guy who has a nice shot... can hit well ... and fight when needs be... but that's rare in the NHL today.

Really liking what I saw in the camp last week for the rooks. Hope he dominates the ohl this year.

Personally, I don't care if they fight.... But I hope they stand up for them self to an extent. Get emotional occasionally. They don't have to fight, but at least get into a mix-up and grab a guy, maybe wrestle a bit if need be, and at least get into some verbal back and forth. Look fired up a bit. Leafs leaders typically don't want to any of this. Some seem afraid to even make eye contact.

Let's take a break from trading/waiving Timmins. RHD with size, same age as Liljegren, 14 pts in 25 games last year, his first full offseason in years -- They shut him down last season to focus on his physical development. To put some mass and muscle on his frame. He shows up this pre-season + 14 lbs...

Let's see how he looks.
Yes! I can actually see the Leafs waiving Reaves and Giordano....both will clear like Simmonds last season but never play a single game with the Marlies. They will provide lots of flexibility and vet experience in limited role.

I think the biggest difference we have entering this season is our offense actually appears to have more than two tiers finally. Before it was basically top 5 guys (core 4 plus Rielly) and not much after that.

What Brad has done in a very short time is create a second tier of scoring with Bertuzzi, Domi, Knies & Klingberg. Now, Knies was inherited but the point stands. We actually have guys who can consistently back up the core offensively before you get down to the next rung of Jarnkroks and Lafferties.

Now imagine we bolster that second layer of scoring with an acquisition/upgrade ( Patrick Kane? Lol) or Nick Robertson is healthy and takes a step.

Really hoping Robertson finally stays healthy. Even if he is sent to the AHL that's alright.

Just go out there and prove everyone wrong and get a call up later in the season when injuries happen.

I still am rooting for him to figure it out and stay healthy most of all.

Come to think of it, if Timmins can stick and develop on the glimpse we saw from him last year (I’m very intrigued and pulling for him) he could arguably join that second tier of offensive with Bertuzzi, Domi, Knies and Klingberg

Seems like a forgotten player for many. I know I'm biased but I can see him becoming a valuable player here and his offense from the backend is a definite need.

Timmins is great offensively, all those assists were well earned, sees the ice very well, makes crisp quick ups. I loved his game, but he really hit a wall defensively last year, there were a few games before he was benched that were pretty bad in our end. I hope we don’t lose him, our D depth is bad and I have hope he can become a regular. Does he really look bigger at camp, haven’t seen him yet?

I've seen it posted he's 'bigger'. What is that based on?

Tier 1: Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly
Tier 2: Bertuzzi, Domi, Knies, Klingberg, Timmins (, Kane)

Could be a massively different look for us offensively.
