They could get a pick for Jarnkrok, and that would allow them to go with a 21 man roster.

Maybe?

Sounds like a great idea.

:sarcasm:

Yeah a player has never played well in the pre-season and then eventually waived, if not in pre-season. I like Timmins, but there's a numbers game.

I said all off-season the Leafs need to make a trade to reduce their cap and they never did. Treliving will have to eat this one.

Waiving an up and coming RD, (when the team needs those) especially when you can trade or waive a forward (considering how many kid forwards seem to be pushing for spots) is just dumb, no matter how you look at it.

That was never the right thing to do. Trade Jarnkrok, and you have Holmberg, Robertson, or even Gregor to replace him.

You don't waive just turned 25 highly touted RD who has been held back by freak injuries, but has shown definite promise when the team will require replacing 2 over 30s RD at seasons end.

That would be Nonis level GMing.

The problem is that nobody will trade for Jarnkrok... you know this right? Pre-season is the worst time to do any trades because teams are in the same boat as us. Jarnkrok is far too good to be given away and the 3 players you listed are definitely not as good (yet). It would be like saying we can waive Brodie since we have Niemela, it's fine.

I don't disagree that keeping Timmins is the better move. He's been good and showing some promise. I had him in my top 7 the whole off-season. I wouldn't say a couple pre-season games indicates much of anything but it does show that he's earned making the team for sure.

So if you really want to keep Timmins, it will be at the cost of waiving someone else. So the next question is... who? If Treliving can pull off a trade at this time of the year for good value, he deserves a lot of credit.

Heavily agree with the bolded. If Trev tries to move Jarnkrok other GMs could easily treat it like the Mathieu Joseph trade talks the Sens are trying to have. Guys like Lafferty and Timmins will be way easier assets to get value back for at this time of year in trades.

This is going to be a good test for Treliving. I'm guessing he already has it all figured out.

Gio looked like he was having trouble keeping up with the play in his (only) preseason game. I think we should monitor him closely. If he doesn't outperform Timmons then Gio should be waived.

I also think the Leafs should seriously consider trading Roberts. He has talent - no doubt, but he has been getting injured a lot - and not just freak accidents. He's got a great shot and a real motor, but he doesn't play that smart. I think the Leafs should cut bait and trade him (to LA?) for picks or a prospect.

The time to trade Robertson has passed. No one is giving up anything for a 5'9" shooter who can't stay healthy for 10 straight games and runs around like a chicken with his head cut off when he does play.

Might as well just hold onto him on the chance he can figure things out.

Trading Robertson does absolutely nothing for us unless he’s part of a package for a meaningful upgrade which we don’t really have the cap flexibility to do at the moment

Most of his injuries I would argue HAVE been freak accidents. He needs to play, and play a lot to get back on track, but I’m still optimistic he takes the next step as a Leaf. He’s looked pretty good in camp so far, we will see what happens

Don't you just send down Holmberg, Gambrell, Robertson and one of the goalies, presumably Jones? That gets you there playing 11-7 to open with Gambrell and Jones exposed to waivers.

They have to send a bunch of guys to play in St Thomas first.
Bunch of cuts tomorrow you would think.

They've got back to back games Friday and Saturday. Wouldn't be surprised if Friday night is a Marlies heavy roster and then we see cuts on Saturday. Then four games to tune the NHL roster.

Thought there would be some further cuts after last night.

Leafs cut 6'5 forward from training camp roster

Toronto Maple Leafs (via team release)

F Jacob Frasca (released from ATO to Barrie, OHL)

One Leafs camp invitee has officially been sent back to his OHL team on Thursday as the Leafs' official PR team has announced that Jacob Frasca, a 6'5 forward, has been sent back to the Barrie Colts and will no longer be skating with Group One.

Frasca had been noticeable during the Leafs' recent trip to Traverse City, but was never a real candidate to make the team out of camp. His presence at training camp was more to just help him gain some experience and learn some new tools to help him at the next level as the 20-year-old undrafted forward will likely try to push for a pro hockey contract next summer.

Dylan Gambrell Sustains Concussion, Out Long-Term

September 27, 2023

Toronto Maple Leafs center Dylan Gambrell sustained a concussion in practice yesterday and is “out for the foreseeable future,” head coach Sheldon Keefe informed reporters today (relayed by Mark Masters of TSN). Gambrell signed a one-year, one-way league-minimum deal to join Toronto shortly after free agency opened in July.

This opens up a clearer path for one of his former Sharks teammates, Noah Gregor, to sign a contract with the team after attending camp on a PTO. Gregor has routinely taken line rushes at left wing alongside Kämpf and Ryan Reaves throughout camp and hit the ten-goal mark for the first time in his four-year career last season with San Jose.

Saturday or Sunday seems right. Bit strange they have back-to-back both in Montreal, just noticed it.

Yep, makes sense.

I doubt the players are complaining

Crazy to trade Robertson now, he’s value is at a low point, you’d hardly get much back, and the upside could really come back to haunt you. Keefe singled him out last night, calling him explosive.
