I was never scared of the Canes tbh. I knew that once Staal came back that line-up would be so much better. He was good today.

If Myers comes back and we start winning again something has to be done. If not to the team then to the people on the main board who still claim he's terrible lol

At least he's not on this road trip right now, so hopefully he'll be out for a little longer.

Our next 10 games include some big tank games (@NJ, @Car, vs Philly, @EDM) If we could repeat or record from the last 10, with losses to those 4 teams, the Sabres could potentially be in prime position to be back in 30th by the deadline

We probably all know this but I just want to see it in writing: If the Oilers win tonight we'll be 4 points ahead of them with the same number of games played, and 3 points ahead of Carolina, who has a game in hand over us. So that could turn into a 1-point difference if Carolina wins the next game. Still not even quite at the middle point of the season. So the tank is definitely back on in a big way, even for the most pessimistic among us. Myers is the big question mark - does he really have THAT much of an effect on the team?

Are the people who were freaking out gonna come apologize to the rest of us for having to read their histrionics for a month?

Well people who were upset would still have every reason to be. We were in last place and now Edmonton has a serious buffer on us.

If we actually wind up in last place, I'll totally eat crow and gladly. Ebbs and flows, we go on a big losing streak but now face a couple basement teams next week. I'd put more money on the gap going back up to 10 than down to 0, so well see.

I think the gap has peaked but I also don't think we'll wind up last.

How do you figure?

If you take a look at the available projections, we are now about as likely to finish 30th as 29th. If the Oilers win today, the gap closes up.

If you take a look at the betting markets, the implied probability of Oilers winning any single of their games is generally higher when compared directly to the Sabres, meaning that the consensus is that they're a slightly better team.

If we lose the next couple of games, we are going to effectively overtake the Oilers in the race for McDavid.

Finish 30th, make it happen Tim. These players are too good to miss on when we are this bad.

Like I said...when you are as bad as the oilers have been this year it's hard to tinker with the team and not accidentally improve it. Moves like Roy, Fraser, dumping Perron for what's his name, sending down Draisaitl... They seem like small or even negative moves. But you tinker with terribad...you risk screwing up the mojo. Either move big pieces to assure failure (miller/ott/moulson all dumped) or bad things can happen. Tim Murray should be careful.
