I would say that's probably one of the methodologies. With very rare exceptions we don't have that sort of theft here, but I suspect it is only a matter of time before it becomes more common.
We get advance notices about package deliveries so someone is always here when they arrive.... another advantage of being retired !!!

I posted about porch pirates taking a gift basket that I had won for my DIL, it was minutes and it was gone. They must follow the trucks.

We live in a village and have never had it happen to us yet but I believe it is just a matter of time. The little shop in town just became a delivery option - perfect for us since it gets delivered to them and we just go and pick it up. We have never had mail delivery and the post office is in town, so we are okay there.

It makes me so angry that people just take what others have worked hard for. There have been some weird thefts in the area recently - $1,000 worth of butter was one, then $2,800 worth of lipstick.

A perk of working from home. I love informed delivery but when I am away I do have to ask my friend to make a special trip to grab the package. I’ll put a forward on my mail about a week before I move. I don’t get much as it is thankfully.

My sister has had some packages stolen recently. We're having more security cameras installed so if it happens again she can prosecute them

"Porch pirates" are nothing less than thieves & should be treated accordingly.

Don't think you will get an argument from anyone on that observation.

There is so much wrong and annoying with this response

Please elaborate.

If I may answer, so many things are wrong with that response. You might live somewhere that has limited access to many stores, it isn't like we all live in cities. Maybe we don't have the choice of how to get certain items, due to lack of stores and competition, maybe time restraints are an issue, maybe you don't own a vehicle and can't drive around looking for specific items. The reasons go on and on.

Also, it doesn't fix any problems to do with the thieves, they will just break into your car or steal other stuff.

Adding to that:

Traffic/getting around metro Boston sucks
My time is valuable - why spend it running errands when I can press a button?
More and more stores are limiting selection in brick and mortars; more choice when ordering online
More and more stores (like Target) are taking anti-theft measures and locking up items. Same root issue as the home delivery thieves. I need to get someone to open a cabinet so I can grab my deodorant and shampoo? Pass.
Often easier to comparison shop online, important if you're on a budget
Online you aren't dealing with as many impulse buys, another way to save money if you're on a budget
Online shopping is a godsend for disabled folks and others who may be housebound
Online shopping is a modern convenience. So many other things about modern society sucks, let's take advantage of the good shit.

The list could go on and on

Fortunately, my building has a security door to the lobby and MOST of the time, the Amazon delivery person drops the packages off in the lobby, but once in awhile, I see them in between the entrance door and the security door. I try to bring them in if they're not too big.

I did try the Amazon locker pickup at my local Staples and it was fine. I might try that more often as long as the weather isn't gross.

Speaking of gross, I have to go out today and try to de-ice my car in the parking lot. Thank god for my Yak Trax, with my osteoporosis I can't afford a fall.

I hate, hate, hate malls, big box stores, etc. They represent so many things wrong with our urban planning and consumerism in this country. I have no sympathy with e-commerce ruining them.

I like to support local business' when I can and online for the rest. Target, Walmart, CVS, etc. loosing out? Cry me a river.

Side note: When it Tux Rentals/Mens warehouse going to get upended by a Warby Parker type scheme? Used them for by brothers wedding, what a horrible experience, like it was stuck in the 1980s. I very much welcome them going out of business.

I do miss going shopping at stores like Filenes. For clothes and anything with fabrics, I like to see and feel the textures. I hate ordering clothes on line.

Macy's has gone downhill, and their clothes are cheap now.

I'll be honest with you man, you're not on my list of favourite people to interact with here, so I'm going to respectfully pass.

Sorry to hear. My apologies for whatever it is I've said.

But I legitimately don't know what made that particular response annoying to you.

All of this.

I'll add that online shopping is a lifeline when you're sick or if you've had a procedure and ordered to rest. I relied heavily on instacart/amazon/target when I had covid and rebound covid. I also used them when I had my SI joint injection last fall.

If I can, I will go to the store but on the days I don't want to get up at the crack of dawn, I will 100% have my groceries delivered.

In OKC, everyone does Walmart delivery.

Call me old school, but I prefer buying things in person whenever possible. I like to try clothes on, pick the food I want to eat, and hold an object in my hand before I buy it.

I still buy a lot of stuff on-line (never groceries, though), but its usually because its an item that I know is not in stock on a shelf somewhere local. I like getting outside and interacting with people. Its good for the soul.

Locking myself in my house and having everything delivered is not my thing. The only exception to that rule is at Christmas time, with the crowds and chaos. Then I'll buy on line, even when I know I can get something local.

I grocery shop for myself. I like to pick out my produce, meat, etc. I have used instacart before for parties and also when I had COVID. It's a nice option for people who may need it.

Yak Trax are the best. I have a very steep driveway and the trash wouldn't get to the bottom for pick up if it weren't for yak traks.

When I got the hip replacement the surgeon said "DO NOT FALL"

anyone ever notice how close @caz16 and my post-like ratio is?

we are clearly star-crossed lovers
You have relationships with all of the women here:laugh:. I hope your girlfriend doesn't mind!

@caz16 is very cool!

1- Yak Trax one of mans greatest inventions. Life saver on my steep driveway.

2- on line shopping. I do mostly on line now. It was invaluable whenthe Bride was going through cancer surgery and treatments. Use Amazon like others but really like Walmart on line. I receive texts from Walmart when 15 minutes from delivery and then again real time when delivery is on my porch.

I just find women to be the much, much, MUCH better gender to interact with on a general level lol

World would be a much better place if ran completely by the fairer sex

I do the BJs pickup for bulk stuff but they suck at picking produce so I go in for that. Best part of the BJs pickup is they tell you what coupons they have and you can just clip them.

No Market Basket near Lebanon, NH which sucks but I have not used the Hannaford pickup yet. Probably wont because most of my shopping there is around the perimeter of the store which is stuff I like to pick.
