Thank you Lonnie.

Last week I started to clean out his office. Basically I just boxed up a ton of stuff, I can't bear to actually go through it all just yet. Thank God my sister has been helping my mother do the same thing at the house I couldn't handle having to do both.

I still have a couple of boxes in my cellar from my parents house and we sold the house in 2009.

I was thankful for my two sisters as I could never have done everything myself. We had to clean out the house Dad built that we had all grown up in . My parents had the house for 60 years.

I am such a sap that I couldn't let the phone # go (that they had for 60 years...was first a party line) so it is now my cell phone #.

Take the time you need Betsy. Do a bit at a time.

I think the time has come to cut my father out of my life completely.

He's struggled with mental illness, substance abuse and has a history of domestic violence.
He was not invited to our wedding three years ago. He briefly went homeless and bottomed out about a year and a half ago. He got back on his medication.

He has slowly been slipping back and I noticed warning signs that nobody else was willing to acknowledge. This included family and his care team. Due to the legal aspect, he cannot be forced to take his prescribed medication. This hasn't stopped him from "Self medicating".

Things came to a head over the weekend. He's started with stalker like behavior including showing up at my in laws' unannounced as well as at church. He also obsesses over my work webpage.

My sister revealed that she has PTSD as a result of all of the things that transpired in our childhood.

Best of luck to you . Sometimes it is best to rid your life of people (no matter WHO they are) that do you no good.

I got rid of someone years ago (my daughter's father) who drank too much and was abusive . It wasn't easy ..He threatened to kidnap my kid and kill my family...but it was worth it.

Bruins are the least of my worries.

If you haven't noticed I've been sporadic the last couple of days. Our oil fired boiler 'collapsed' in on itself (google it) Sunday night, the house damn near burned down. We were lucky it happened while I was still awake.

Anyway we are currently living with space heaters and no hot water while awaiting replacement. Hopefully it gets done by Thursday night as projected.. $10,000.

I may be a bit a cranky.

Yikes...Glad you were awake. Thankfully everyone is OK. Good Luck.

I don't blame you. Unfortunately something like this isn't covered by homeowners insurance (although it would respond if your house had caught on fire). How old was it? Maybe it is still under warranty? Grabbing at straws but when you're going to be out $10,000 you grab at anything that might help!!!!

It was about 20 years old. Builders model. So probably crap back then.
Luckily all we have is some singed insulation and a whole lot of ash .

Honestly considering what could have happened I'm not concerned about the $.

Yes I often tell my clients we can fix buildings or cars, people not so much.

5 years ago we replaced the 40 year old boiler for the office/apartment building. Other than routine maintenance we hadn't done anything to it but the contractor said the interior was still in good shape. They don't make stuff like that anymore.

It's official, my girlfriend and I are moving to Boston. We're both very excited and slightly nervous. Thankfully her company is handling all of the moving expenses and the logistics behind it. They were incredible doing so when we moved to Denver.

Going to miss our friends out here for sure but, it'll be a new and fun adventure.

Fun fact about them the drummer was David Robinson who later joined the Cars and the keyboard player was Jerry Harrison who later joined the Talking Heads

Thanks.

I'm already from Massachusetts being from Western Mass when I was younger. Most of my family lives in Western Mass, Halifax, or Boston. Should be an awesome experence for both of us.

What part are you moving to?

Dang Wally, sorry to hear that. That'll make me think twice about complaining about getting yelled at by some crazy hockey parents over the weekend.

Other people's opinions of you are not your problem.

you made the right call.....

Things with my dad have worsened.

His social worker called me today to tell me he was on the bring of being involuntarily hospitalized, but their hands are tied. She made me aware of a petition I could file with the police department to force the issue and have him taken for an evaluation.

It was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do.

I'm sure I'll be the "bad guy", but I have his best interests at heart.

Hang in there Mike. Sometimes the right thing and the easy thing are not the same thing. I don't envy your situation.

Sorry about this. Hopefully it'll work out for the best. I can't imagine dealing with this.

On non-related news, we found out my girlfriends company is getting us a broker and will cover any broker fees. Thank God, should make finding a place in Boston so much easier.

Back from the Philippines. Had to leave a day or two early because flights weren't cooperating. Stunk as that wasn't something I discovered until the day before. :/

Still...was really good to be back and see the girlfriend for a week. She gets her passport in the next week or so, and then I'll make a trek out there in 4-6 weeks to help her apply for a Tourist Visa. :D
